It was that weird period when he was with FW and Khan and his family were demanding he be PPV. I think I'm right in saying it was a really low buy rate, something like 30k...which isn't the lowest PPV buy rate, that distinction belongs to Toney/Nunn (I think) at something like 22k...which is astonishing, relatively.

I think we had 3 Khan fights in a row on PPV, the Prescott fight being the last. I didn't pay for that either, but saw it live! That wasn't a great card either. Poor old Aud got a right booing.

But at least Amir Khan was a name recognisable by the 'man on the street', if you did a survey and asked 100 people who Tony Bellew or Nathan Cleverly were I doubt many would answer boxers and that is the problem for a PPV.

If the casual sports fan has hardly heard of them how do you sell a PPV ?

Let's not forget that Khan-Fagan was part of a larger night that included De La Hoya-Pacquiao.

I've paid for a lot of questionable ppvs over the years but this is the final straw, most people these days are going through hard times me included in fact paying for sky sports alone is a massive luxury for me and as a hard core fan of boxing I feel like I'm being treated worse than hard core fans of other sports, besides all that don't see how putting 2 relatively obscure boxers on ppv is gonna raise their profile shame on you Eddie your willing to damage the sport just to make a quick buck.

That's a fair point, but i don't think this is even an exercise in that, I suspect this is a case of wringing the last few quid out of any remaining name recognition of them before the loser goes on the scrapheap and the winner bumbles onward towards a WBO title defeat in a year or so before also joining the former on said scrapheap.

This isn't even a cross road fight, for that you have to see a real future for the winner. I think we've already seen the best of both.

Luckily for me, by chance, I'm on a night out in L'pool that night so will see it in a Bar somewhere.

However I do think Hearn should just come out, hold his hands up and say I got it wrong. He would gain a lot of respect but I can't see it happening!

Hate to be a cynic but I think you're spot on.

Thing is if bellew v clev was the chief support to a better ppv main event we would all probably be quite happy with that, its all about value for money after all. Hope to god the fight don't turn out to be some sort of all time classic can you imagine how smug Eddie would be

How do they know it's struggling? It's not available to book yet.

Yeah wasn't the original plan to have it as main support for Brook V Rios/Lopez in Sheffield? If it would have been Rios along with Clev Bellew 2, you could still argue it isn't PPV as even Brook isn't a massive name for the casuals. Still a lot more PPV worthy than this current card!

that's why he's playing up the "beef" angle, to the people who have no idea.

you can't really blame him for promoting a fight, nor can you blame him for maximising the purse/profit for the boxers being punched in the head

joke card/fight for PPV but I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise on here or elsewhere, for that matter.

Am I right in thinking they haven't set a price for the PPV yet? After the backlash they've received and they must have other indications it won't sell brilliantly is it more realistic that rather than putting it free to air they make it a "cheaper" PPV. Didn't Primetime for example once do a PPV (possibly Klitchko) for about a fiver? I know its completely different in almost every way but I don't think there is any hope of this not being PPV.

It will sell to boxing fans in Wales and Liverpool and maybe a few casuals there as well. The hardcore throughout the rest of Britain seem quite pissed off with this and I don't think they will buy.

I wont buy it and im in between both on the wirral,im not buying into this sh1t anymore we hardly see any boxing on t.v now and the shiff of a decent scrap we get charged more,if the promotor and manager took abit of pay cut then they wouldnt have to put it on ppv

This is how we'll trick the fans, especially those gullible no nothing casual pudenda (who form the majority of the potential PPV market)..... we'll stick a card on that has a lot of the big names on it from top to bottom that they'll recognise but we'll match them up against no hopers (the casuals will be none the wiser the mugs) and we'll then make sure we go out of our way to say what a "stacked" card it is. We'll be laughing to the bank! ;)

I won't buy it if big names are added to the bill. I 'might' buy it if big names in competitive fights are added to the bill.
