Also while I also respect his opinion Iv yet to see his take on any of Otake's key fights that have got him the ranking. All Iv got to go off is the fight reports Iv read. Also according to prospect Otake wasn't gonna take the fight because he had a defence of his Japanese title upcoming (hardly a reason to turn down a WT fight.)
I have watched Wake aswell though and he's clearly the better fighter of the two. Otake is a come forward plodder with little power. His style will suit Quigg down to the ground.
I don't doubt what his style is and don't doubt Wake is better. But that doesn't mean his ranking is enormously inflated. It's what it is based off of his recent victories over guys who are also highly rated.

It also doesn't make it a bad a fight or an 'abomination' like someone said in another thread before calling for the Galahad fight (Galahad having his ranking based off of fighting..........)
Who has Otake beaten though that is particularily good or more so of a world class standard? For instance I said i think Wake is better which I do believe but I think Martinez would beat the pair of them to be honest.

BoxRec rankings are good as a general guide but they have their shortcomings. Admittedly I'm not an expert on the division, but based on Otake consistently winning by fairly tight margins against limited local opposition I doubt that he's the 8th best fighter in the division. I could only find a very brief clip of him fighting, but he looks mediocre based on that too.

I wasn't impressed with Wake either, and it seems to me like Japanese fighters are often overrated by the BoxRec system. One example that stands out for me was Koji Sato being ranked near the top 10 at MW based heavily on wins over mediocre East Asian fighters in a division scare with good talent from that region. Eventually he fought a legitimate top 10 opponent in Felix Sturm, and he was embarrassingly out of his depth. In a current case, Akio Shibata is in the top 20 at SMW despite being knocked out by a 154 fringe contender a few years ago, being recently stopped in 2 by a promising fighter who was nonetheless debuting, and beating almost exclusively domestic opponents in a division with poor Japanese talent. I suspect that there are well over 20 fighters at the weight who are better than him and more deserving of a top 20 spot.

Yeah I'd go along with Martinez being better however I think we've gone over the reasons why a Martinez fight wouldn't be possible for the 22nd, it's just too soon for another WT fight after losing his IBF strap, he would want more notice and probably more rest for a fight with Quigg. What I am hoping is we don't get what we have got in the last load of fights and that's an immediate date being set in about 10-12 weeks time. It just eliminates any chance of one of the guys we want to see him face, being in the other corner (the other champs, Avalos, Martinez or Galahad.) The rumours have been that negotiations will properly open with Hennessy (as opposed to offers being made with the knowledge they will never be accepted) for a Galahad fight or for a Martinez fight next. I'm as pissed off as anyone about Scott Quigg but I personally think slating the Otake fight as cra p is slightly over the top. Jamoye and Munyai (both late replacements for slightly better opponents) are deserving of the moniker.

Incidentally it's quite simple why Otake is rated highly. Most agree that Wake is deserving of a top 10 rating, well he got beat by Nakajima who in turn twice lost to Otake. That's more or less the crux of how he is up there, but he also has a win over another guy top 25 and a load of top 40-50 guys (who would have been higher before they got beat.) As I keep harping on about the KEY fights that we haven't seen are the Nakajima fights against Otake and Wake, from there we can make a guesstimate about just how good he is, bet none of us have seen those fights so basing everything off a few minutes of footage isn't really enough for me.

And it's reading back over the essay style posts by myself, crusader and lefty that I ask myself what the fuc k any of this has to do with Anthony Joshua.

Just started reading this from page 2, and yes, I can confirm now that Wake is the new Bruno.
