I don't think so, everyone I watched it with found it tedious, like most of both of their fights. The first Mckenzie for Bellew and Murat for Clev are the only fights I've enjoyed watching them in.

I suggest you watch some great fights and compare. That was shite, not great.

Loving the interview. I'm a big fan of Colin Murray from his days at Fighting Talk and to see Bellew explode on Bunce was hilarious even if it was all a bit silly.

I hope Cleverly wins the fight. Fair play to Bellew who's playing the WWF baddie role pretty good.

arlovski wrote:What did Bunce say after the Stevenson fight that's upset him so much?

Something about Bellew giving it the big un and spouting off about how he's willing to die in the ring etc then turning a meek performance, running away for several rounds and barely throwing a punch then getting hammered into submission, i assume?

"I'm the one taking punches, getting up from knockdowns, fighting with cuts blah blah"

This sense of entitlement that some boxers have (Paul Smith springs to mind) really grates with me; yes they put their lives on the line, yes it's a tough game to be involved with, but it's their choice, and since when does choosing a tough profession mean you're completely absolved of responsibility or criticism when you don't perform your job very well??
Especially considering the fact that it's the fans buying tickets/watching who are allowing them to do that as a job in the first place.

I sort of had a similar feeling when i was boxing regularly as an amateur - i almost thought i was 'special' and entitled to instant respect because i chose to do the toughest sport of all, it took me a couple of years of stepping away after competing to get some perspective, i wasn't special or worthy of praise from everyone because i chose to get punched in the face, i wasn't living by some warrior code, no-one else gives a sh*t, it's a sport, get on with it.

I used to quite like Bellew, but his incessant talking has really put me off him, i just get the impression he's a bit thick now to be honest - even in that interview it's clear he's not as humble as he makes out, his answers to the questions didn't even make sense, he just reeled off tired clichés about his kids, punching power and the frankly bizarre metaphor about the Gucci coat.

It's pretty clear he doesn't even have a legitimate reason to hate Cleverly, which makes him come across as an even bigger daft, thick bully with his head up his ar*e
This is an excellent post. Refreshing to hear your thoughts especially about your own boxing experience. Bellews reaction to Buncey was just cringeworthy like a child almost, and then he goes on to say how cool and calm he will be on the night. He's clearly wound up by it all.

The metaphor was just horrendous. He was basically suggesting that lots of people really really want to watch this fight but can't afford it because it's on PPV this meaning they won't buy it. Weird.

I've got respect for Steve Bunce, I like how he comes across and I like the fact he isn't the consummate professional. If Bunce did say something about Bellews performance v Adonis then it's fair comment, Tony showed more aggression at the weigh in and he did box a pretty timid fight.

:TU: And his loud yelling helps keep me awake during the early hour shows

His best assett is being able to keep talking when the German shows have a 90 minute intermission,he does drop a few clangers but its like having a mate round,i like him :salut:

I did prefer him being the pundit though, him and Andy Kerr had good banter,i prefer someone who could pronounce the fighters names to do the presenting

Tell you what I like about him Barrie - an amateur boxer who never boxed as a senior passed away a few years ago and Bunce asked for memories of the boxer for his radio show and he went to the funeral. I know he rubs many up the wrong way but I think he's basically a decent bloke.

Yep defo mate,he loves the sport and is passionate about it which is something British presenters sometimes lack,he's always good for an anacdote and knows more than most,id like Jim Rosenthal to do the presenting and Buncey the pundit,or the Scottish fella who does Boxing Talk would be a great presenter for the live shows

PS. Its Barry with a Y :OhYes:

Buncey is a great bloke. I've met him twice and both times he was sound as a pound. Bellew needs to wind his neck in. Hope Cleverly knocks him out.

It kept Buncey quiet though and that was the funny bit. He said they talked in the break and he blamed some of it on 'a worm' that was saying stuff and not him, he mentioned that he had been tucked up by the same 'worm' previously. He did say that they spoke and agreed some points and disagreed on others. I would have loved to hear the chat at the break though....

Just caught the last few minutes if the gloves are off between Bellew and Cleverley.

Tony, Tony, Tony

I almost feel embarrassed for him!

Bellew is a moron. watching Stevenson slap him about was fun, Cleverly will do the same, i'll hopefully see it on Youtube.

He gives it all the trap, as soon as he got in the ring he did f k all. Buncey for what ever he said was spot on.

At least this time Buncey didn't soil his knickers unlike he did when BHop called him out a couple of years ago during an interview. Now that was funny. :KO:

Agreed,

You'd expect someone competing in the toughest sport of all to have a thick skin, but Bellew comes across as remarkably overly sensitive.

But he is a lazy fat fcuk. He is not fitter than me. And he is not more successful than most people in my family either.

But anyway, if that is the criteria, they better shut the forum as no one can express an opinion unless they are better than the person in question

Well i'd class intelligence as being luck really as you're either born with it or you're not.
