How would Kovalev fare at Heavyweight?

Danny Green was never a full size CW. The phrase "DannyWeight" was coined due to him having catchweight bouts between LHW and CW to suit him. In the two fights that weren't fought at DannyWeight, he got KO'd.

If a CW is good enough, he can make a HW run. Haye/Adamek, even Huck and Cunningham showed some success. Obviously, to actually beat the champ is a different story, but hanging in the top 10 or 5 isn't a reach as Haye and Adamek stayed in the top 5 for a while. It's all about matchmaking and let's face it, the best don't fight the best often enough, so someone a weight class below who is driven to be ranked and get a title shot can do so pretty quickly. Adding another weight class in there does more harm than good. Tarver even fought at HW.. Makes no sense to add another, it'd just be another transition to HW.

Do you really think he'd beat up a fit David Haye? Not saying Haye would be a nailed on winner but Haye is very good defensively and hits just as hard as Kovalev but seems more explosive. If Haye connected it would be lights out for Kovalev and the same vice versa. Remember Wlad didn't even really hurt Haye and Haye was terrible that night.

If Haye was 'terrible' it probably helped him avoid being hurt, as fighting more assertively would've probably left him more vulnerable.

Kovalev would give away too much size for me to pick against someone like Haye, and I think he would run into serious problems against the division's top fighters. He's not even that big at 175, and his power is an important factor in the success he's had.

It woudn't be farfetched for some here to suggest that Kovalev is worn out at 175 and might prosper at heavy.

Not likely after getting stopped by ordinary punchers Alvarez and Ward.

Fortunately it's just an old thread undergoing a rebirth.

How come no one has asked how Kovalev might do at cruiser?
