He spent too long fighting fellow Brits of similar ability levels, rather than fighting more capable non-British HW opponents. There was very little progression in the fights with Dallas, McDermott, Sexton, Harrison, Skelton. Consequently, he wasn't ready for the step up against TT.

AJ's had 12 fights against weak opposition (Price also fought a few poor imports early in his career) and is now moving on to a credible test. Though Joshua will be expected to win, I would expect KJ to provide a stronger test than many of the fighters sniffing round British title level. I'm certainly not advocating a "WBO Intercontinental Interim Silver Title" approach to the next phase of AJ's career - I'd just rather see him kick on and step up further after Johnson, rather than having to take 3 fights against British level opponents in order to claim the Lonsdale outright.

I'd probably have a different view if the British title fights were against Chisora, Price and Fury (i.e. Brits who are above domestic level), but I suspect they wouldn't be.

While im not a great fan of Tyson Fury there are only 2 boxers in the heavyweight division presently worth noting. Fury and joshua. Its a poor division imo with only 2 who have a decent chance at world title honours in the next year or 2.

Incidentially. are there any decent British heavyweight amateurs who are coming through and maybe going pro in the next year or 2?

Fury and Joshua are clearly a class above the rest but as always the real shame about the division is the inactivity of so many of the top 15 if they got in the ring it would bring the whole division in the UK alive as it should be.

Price should probably try and get a crack at the EBU, which is around the level he was at before Thompson.

Whyte seems the natural fight for Joshua; would be an easy sell IMO. I'm wondering if Hearn sees Whyte as too much of an unknown risk at this point.

Joshua vs Whyte would be a cracking fight. Dangerous for both at this moment. Thats why it won't happen.

Who's promoting him? Why didn't his promoter bid for the McDermott fight?

Who promotes Lewison? Both of these guys seem to be floating around doing nothing.

A McDermott win would have put either of them in line for the British title, but instead they hang about doing nothing.

Lewison v McDermott is a bout as likely as the tories increasing Unemployment benefit both are totally inactive wasting the back end of their competitive years. Towers too is ridiculously inactive given his age.

Absolutely I don't understand it they have nothing to lose and can't be making any money as they never fight can someone enlighten us?

I think Hughie Fury could out box the d's easily

If Haye could keep fully fit he would prevail, he won't therefore, unfortunately

I will add that you guys make sense saying why these fringe guys are smashing each other up, cannot be the money factor...
