Re: Chagaev vs Fury????

Marisuz Wach would be a good barometer fight for Tyson Fury as Wladimir K dismantled Wach over 12 when Wach got his shot. Plus Tony Thompson would be also good for Fury as well.
The guy is 36 and has only lost twice - once against the best heavyweight in the world, once against the second best heavyweight in the world. He has been knocked down once in his entire professional career, against Wladimir Klitschko who he took nine full rounds. Against Povetkin he put up a very good fight. He has fought six times in the last three years, winning all his fights including his latest against Fres Oquendo - a tough opponent for any heavyweight (not including Wlad).ClivePatrickLyons wrote:Chagaev is a joke retire

Explain to me why he is a joke?
In his last fight he was just over a stone heavier than when he fought the 213cm 46-0 Valuev, who he schooled.Maxsplit wrote:Chagaev is old, slow & fat and at 180cm surely far too small to pose any threat to 205cm+ Fury?
He is no longer the same fighter who fought Valuev and Klitcshko ... He is about 3 stone heavier. Not a good look at 5'11
Well, Cunningham was a multiple time Cruiserweight world champ so he definitely was a world beater! But I understand you mean at heavyweight ... Although he did just beat Amir Mansour, knocking him down in the process and is in excellent shape.Gnome wrote:In his last fight he was just over a stone heavier than when he fought the 213cm 46-0 Valuev, who he schooled.Maxsplit wrote:Chagaev is old, slow & fat and at 180cm surely far too small to pose any threat to 205cm+ Fury?

Fury has been knocked down against Pajkic and Cunningham (who was older when he fought Fury than Chagaev is now), neither of them world beaters.
Chageav is a perfectly good opponent for any fighter apart from Wladimir Klitschko.
Maybe Pianeta? He has size and style similiar to Klitschko's.Maxsplit wrote:Well, Cunningham was a multiple time Cruiserweight world champ so he definitely was a world beater! Chagaev looked appalling vs Oquendo in his last fight and was lucky to win IMO, one of the judges had it a draw.
If Fury doesn't lose his mandatory spot, then this would be a great fight for him to take to add another belt to his growing collection. I can't see anything other than a one sided beating and late stoppage if the same Chagaev turns up as did vs Oquendo. A prime Chagaev would have been a different proposition, but he looked well past his prime recently.
Peter Fury said today they are taking 2 fights prior to Wlad. Maybe one tall guy and Chagaev?
nope. paineta shorter, slower and.....a south pawGnome wrote:Maybe Pianeta? He has size and style similiar to Klitschko's.Maxsplit wrote:Gnome wrote:Chagaev is old, slow & fat and at 180cm surely far too small to pose any threat to 205cm+ Fury?

You are right about the southpaw, badcold187 wrote: nope. paineta shorter, slower and.....a south paw
I think Fury would have to be crazy to risk a Klitschko payday to fight against Pulev. Fury is that close, people Wlad to fight him. He should have a low-risk tune-up fight to make sure he doesn't gather rust.cold187 wrote:only guy with similar style pulev
both good jabs and fight from distance. but fight on front foot
both tall
both good records

All these options are still open to Fury if he loses to Wlad (and I am not so sure he does if the fight happens).
Fury could even lose and still have his stock rise if he wins some rounds (nobody has done this vs Wlad since the 1st Tony Thompson fight) or knocks Wlad down (it's happened 12 times so far but not for ages).
No need to risk a fight vs someone like Pulev who is very dangerous. Although he took a hell of a beating vs Wlad, and his chin might now be 'cracked'.
