Terrible news for Anthony and his family. Hope no permanent damage has been done and on the bright side, it could've been a lot worse, could've been stabbed by the nutters these days. Hope he recovers well.

Sad news. Poor old Crolla.

Terrible news. Hopefully no long term damage but a slab over the head is pretty severe. Hope they catch the cowards.

It does bring into focus the old debate about have-a-go heroes. Crolla was a brave lad who who intervened in a robbery taking place next door. Very honourable however it almost cost him his life and could still cost him his career depending on whether he's suffered neurological damage. Should Crolla have left it to the police, and his neighbours insurance company, or was he right to put himself at risk? Would he do it again? Personally I'd have kept myself to myself. Simply not worth it.

Jeez, what is happening with Brit boxers right now? Jamie Moore shot in the legs, Kell Brooke stabbed, and now Crolla battered over the head with a concrete slab? I've never known anything like a run like that. I hope the lad makes a full recovery.

A similar thing also happened to Darren Barker who was beaten by thugs whilst trying to break up a fight I believe.

I'd call the police first then intervene but it's a tough, tough decision to make. A regular customer at my parent's pharmacy was kind elderly lady; she told us how a young thug threatened her in broad daylight just down the road with a screwdriver and took her purse. Plenty of people saw but chose to just ignore it and walk by. I couldn't just ignore something like that but of course easier said than done.

I have been in situations where I've got in the middle of a fight in order to break it up; guess I'm lucky that no major harm has come to me as yet; just minor injuries.

That's terrible for him. He's worth a Million of them. Hope he makes a full recovery and achieves the goals he's worked so hard for.

What a horrible thing to happen to him, I hope someone at the gym knows Paul Massey and the burglars get it.

Utter disgrace, there is so much tolerance now in our society that pure filth are allowed to roam our streets and get away with anything. We should cut these fornicator's hands off if they're found.

As for have a go heroes, I also think it's a bit of a silly thing to do but people do it in the heat of the moment. In an ideal world you've got to assess the risks, if there's 2 of them and 1 of you it's probably not worth doing much other than chasing them off, stuff is stuff and can always be replaced with insurance. Most scrotes robbing houses carry some form of weapon on them such as a screwdriver or a knife and the few hundred quid worth of stuff they're nicking really aint worth the outcome Crolla has had. But in the heat of the moment who knows what you'd do until faced with the situation.

That's the problem in these situations, you just don't know what you are getting into. The police would probably not arrive until the thugs have gone, so what do you do? Sit and watch? Probably best trying to film them on your phone if anything, get a good zoom in especially if it is daytime.

I remember a few years back chasing a gang of youths who were throwing things at the windows, must've been about 7 of them. They ran and scattered and I jogged back but how easy things can go the other way, suddenly down the road, it's dark and you're confronting, well, you don't really know and a lot of people(neighbours) turn the other way or hide indoors till it's over. All over a few bits of rubbish thrown at your windows and in Crolla's case, it wasn't even his house.

A brave deed from Ant but surely not worth it when he looks back. Hope he manages to enjoy a bit of Christmas with his family. He must be totally gutted. Hope he can fight again because that would be a tragedy for him.

That is so sad. Sometimes you dont recover from these injuries and he was in such good form having worked so hard to get his shot.

I hope they get caught and charged with attempted murder and I hope that Crollas name in Manchester encourages the criminal community to drop some names.

I didn't want to be the first to mention that, but you are right. He's not gona relish getting punch in the head once he's recovered. It's just horrible. I'm gutted for him. He seems such a sound lad as well.

Absolutely gutted for the guy,i was telling the mrs it wasnt a cliche,he IS one of the nicest guys in boxing,its been said aplenty all his career,i wish him a quick and complete recovery

Im pretty sure my last post last night was about Anthony's chances against Abril,and i really thought with the form that Crolla's in and with the fight being at home i gave him a real chance,i just pray he gets his shot and the scummy bastsrds are brought to justice,i would love to see Joe's gym bump into the culprits in a dark alley

Only Edwin Valero as far as I know and he had problems passing scans in certain states.There is of course the myths about Barrera having nerves removed from the brain in surgery and Margarito having skull surgery after a beating outside a Mexican nightclub..

Paul Williams had a terrible motorbike accident, James Schuler had a fatal accident as well.

I read Adam Smith's book(good read BTW) and he done a big bit about Corrales,he was his favourite fighter and got pretty close to him by all accounts,Diego even let him stay at the family home and looked after Adam when he was over there

Has Jermain Taylor done something? Or is it due to boxing, or is he just crazy?

Vinny Paz had that nasty crash, dunno if his head was injured tho.

the BBBC are quite tough on anything head related aren't they? I saw Iain weaver the other week in lydls and wondered what happened with his situation.
