Well, what can I say? SBW Sonny Bill Williams and the Mundines pulled one off just like Welliver and Pat Ferguson. SBW has climbed up higher and faster than expected to be a serious force and has entirely proven that he is not a joke in the ring. The strides he made from the previous fights, when he ran out of gas against Botha and looked like a sloppy amateur against Clarence Tillman, are massive strides. He never lost his composure at the weigh in or during the fight at all. He was taunted and baited well but did not get suckered in. He landed some absolutely highlight reel shots and did so from inside quite a bit where he was least likely to succeed IMO going into the fight. He used some straight laser beams from the outside, tight uppercuts inside, and he wrestled well and showed he has some boxing scrum ability on the inside against a very crafty and experienced Welliver. Chauncy was a step too slow and his hands were not near as fast as when he was campaigning at much lower weights. So he threw every trick he had at SBW to try and even things up. None of the tricks worked but they did make the scrap very entertaining. Who doesn't love watching a guy who can eat nuclear missiles and then shake his head like he was Hulk Hogan? Welliver makes a fight entertaining as you know he is going to get hit with everything and the kitchen sink and keep on coming. So it will always be a long and entertaining fight and if he did ever get dropped or stopped it would be the witnessing of a massive moment. Anybody who ever does take Welliver off his feet has accomplished what is damn near impossible to do.

Some guys learn fast and become excellent quickly. SBW and Chauncy's HW Ferguson are guys like that. Super gifted athletes from the start and when they get some good instruction they blossom quickly. Chauncy is not so gifted naturally with the athletics though only the divine can grant a chin like he was made with. Chauncy had to take the long hard route to reach up towards the top levels. He had to learn all the playbooks and put in a bunch of trick plays to keep positioning himself for better things. He traveled the lands all over this world learning things along the way and picking up contacts and inside tracks. He will certainly be one of the better suited guys of his generation going on into managing and training fighters because of it. There is almost nothing in this sport that Welliver has not witnessed or been a part of. He knows every angle there is to move guys forward on their career paths.

At this point, if he stays boxing at these high weights these same results will be had. He will show his chin is unbreakable but he will not win the fights. He can probably make some serious bucks doing so but if he wants to score some big wins he has to drop back down in weight. His name value is as big as it has ever been and all the fans want to see a 250 pound Welliver take on some of these big names when he is closer to bringing his best to the ring.

And for all you chumps saying I do a disservice to Welliver.....check my quote under my SN. Welliver is a living legend and nobody who was around the online boxing forums during our era will ever forget him or me. I got myself hated all over this world and when there was little interest in seeing Welliver fight I got a ton of people interested in seeing him fight....in seeing him lose. And so friggen what...most people watch Floyd to see the same thing. It don't matter why you watch or get interested as long as you are watching and interested. Team Welliver values every hater there is and the whole ride wouldn't have been the same without them. Welliver makes it fun to watch whether you like him or hate him. He's going to deliver a show no matter what and earn his paychecks. That was probably my favorite quote of the broadcast....."Whatever they are paying Welliver it is not enough". Nobody gets that shizit said about them while they are losing a fight. Yet even in a steady defeat people cannot help but get amazed by how such a big heavy guy can keep coming at the super chiseled dudes and walk through everything they have. I don't think there has ever been another guy in boxing who can create such entertainment value while on the short end of the stick. During the fights and online....Team Welliver delivers the entertainment.

It's probably going to be a yo-yo thing for Welliver from here on out.

It's obviously easier for him to stay fat than moderately in shape, so he'll probably stay 280+ most of the time... lose 30-40lb, get a few decent wins... then cash out, then get fat again. He knows he can't be an elite Heavyweight, so he will never get fully in shape... which for him is probably below 230

Welliver is a fat disgrace to boxing. I'm no Sandow myself, but I'm not climbing into a boxing ring in front of hundreds of boxing fans. Get in some kind of shape for gawd's sake. Lose 7 or 8 stone for starters. As for skill, he knows enough to make Williams look bad and can take a crackin' good shot, unless Williams is a panty-waist in the punching department. If I was a promoter, about the only way to sell Welliver would be by putting him in with a genuine puncher who can hopefully knock him out.

Chauncy "THE BOUNTY HUNTED" Welliver.

A promoter should ink him to a fight deal and put him in against some of the top punchers and offer a bounty on him. Small guaranteed purses and then big bonus money if they knock him down. Use the fact that he is about to pass Oliver McCall for the longest HW round streak actively without going down. And chasing down George Chuvalo for the longest streak ever. To legitimize the streak as he passes Chuvalo adding on nothing but top hitters is the way to do it. It could be a very entertaining and profitable promotion series. And if Welliver manages to stay on his feet without giving up the bounty he would make the promoter working with him a ton of cash as they would only surrender the smaller guaranteed purses weighted down by the potential of the bonuses. I think he can walk through everybody who is out there today. And I know damn well there is a big market of people who want to see Chauncy get dropped on his arse. The time to capitalize on Welliver's stock and entertainment value is now while the iron is hot. Even a super fighter vs Welliver tournament would be a great sell. 3 rounds for Tua. 3 round for Meehan. 3 rounds for Leapai. 3 rounds for Haumono,. Put the names in a hat and draw order...put the bounty on knocking Welliver down....and lets see if 4 men with the opportune ity to go all out for 3 rounds each can manage it. People would by this event like crazy. And Welliver would walk through it like the Living Sweet Chin Music Legend he is.

Oliver McCall...432 straight HW rounds without being knocked down. Chauncy Welliver....421 straight. One 12 rounder from the active streak record.

You people have bitzched about Chauncy's titles from all the regions all over the world instead of praising how cool it is for a guy to be fighting on so many more circuits than almost all other fighters do. Welliver was jet setting to get all those straps.

Now Chauncy has a new title....and it has to be taken for real before anyone can truly say they busted Chauncy's arse. 421 Straight Rounds Without Going Down Mother Flugger is the title.

Who here on this planet is bad enough to step up for 12 rounds vs Welliver to deny him from overtaking Oliver McCall? Nobody is, that's who. So the Super Fighter vs Welliver 3 rounds each 4 top guys is the only shot boxing has to stop him. Who wants to sign up and which 4 guys do the fans want to see Welliver walk through to capture the active streak record? I want to see the 4 Aussie/NZ guys myself. Oceania has not even staggered him so far in 13 rounds. We need to give their weak punching HW's some more chances.

You have certainly taken a page out of the Gorgeous George-Ali-Rasslin Playbook. You've got the philosophy down. You've made me more curious about a Welliver fight. I can't speak for others but I sure don't hate the guy. My problems with him, as previously stated were the phony belts, phony rankings, and his weight which brings me to the next point. Welliver was at 238 against Sherman Williams and still looked obese.

Wellliver is a smart guy. His intelligence and toughness reminds me a lot of WWE Great Mick Foley.

...I think that at some point Welliver, his team or some of his fans should STOP bragging about his granite chin and how many punches he can take... he might end up God forbid like Mago...

Sure, let's have a contest to see who can kill the most brain cells while trying to knock him down.

Welliver himself said that he will have one more fight in New Zealand and then retire. He says himself that he's "finished" as a fighter.

How is this different from having Ali-Leon Spinks 3 with no time limit ! Let them beat each other to see which one of them drops and dies first. :witzend:
