GGG by mid rounds body shot KO, a very, very easy fight for him. All of Murray's strengths will play right into his hands.
Yes but the big difference in the Benn v McClellan fight was that Benn could punch and wasn't fighting a natural super middleweight. Murray doesn't hit hard enough to trouble GGG.veriton wrote:i bet Murray was straight on the phone to Ian John Lewis after the Rose stoppage, that's the ref he needs for this one.
he did well in argentina but i would think the atmosphere in monte carlo will be pretty poor, just the odd clinking of champagne glasses as you get stoved in hardly stirs the soul.
the sooner he gets out of there with his cash and senses intact the better. but then we all thought mcclellan was an indestuctable monster who was going to steamroll benn.....
Unfortunately this is what I also think.johnswan1 wrote:GGG by mid rounds body shot KO, a very, very easy fight for him. All of Murray's strengths will play right into his hands.
Good point, I'll never forget how small McClellan looked against Benn.SteveDow wrote:Yes but the big difference in the Benn v McClellan fight was that Benn could punch and wasn't fighting a natural super middleweight. al least, I assume you're being ironic....
And also the hype about McClellan was all true, but tragically he believed it too and didn't really train...but yes, Benn had the big punch, and MM doesn't.SNG wrote:Good point, I'll never forget how small McClellan looked against Benn.SteveDow wrote:Yes but the big difference in the Benn v McClellan fight was that Benn could punch and wasn't fighting a natural super middleweight. I was being a bit cheeky, I don't underestimate the difference between moving from 160 to 168, just saying he was a big lad and fighting against a former middleweight, Benn wasn't one of the bigger SMWs about. I don't think it's a particularly good comparison, mind.palooka wrote:Though Benn himself said that he didn't think McClellan appreciated how difficult the move from middle to super middle was; Nigel said it took him 12 months to adjust to the weight.
This fight and the Benn v McClellan one can't logically be compared to each other given the fact that Benn was a proven world champion and a huge puncher who had made numerous defences and was fighting a guy who was not established at the weight regardless of how big he is or how scary a puncher he was. Benn was also fighting on home territory which was a huge help to him as if the fight had been in any other country he'd have been stopped in the first round.SNG wrote:I was being a bit cheeky, I don't underestimate the difference between moving from 160 to 168, just saying he was a big lad and fighting against a former middleweight, Benn wasn't one of the bigger SMWs about. The equivalent of a Benn v McClellan now would be if GGG moved up to 168lbs to fight Froch.SteveDow wrote:This fight and the Benn v McClellan one can't logically be compared to each other given the fact that Benn was a proven world champion and a huge puncher who had made numerous defences and was fighting a guy who was not established at the weight regardless of how big he is or how scary a puncher he was. 700 people from St Helens around champagne glasses, they'll barely be able to get a mouthful of tennants super in those!whiteboy wrote:is that definite? great effort if soMarlo Stanfield wrote:

That'd be the first time in 350 amateur bouts and 31 pro fights?freddydoesdallas wrote:Has anyone seen a price on GGG touching down?
GGG is 10/1 to be knocked down with Paddy Powerpalooka wrote:That'd be the first time in 350 amateur bouts and 31 pro fights?freddydoesdallas wrote:Has anyone seen a price on GGG touching down?
Yes. He's apparently never been down as an amateur, pro or in sparring.palooka wrote:That'd be the first time in 350 amateur bouts and 31 pro fights?freddydoesdallas wrote:Has anyone seen a price on GGG touching down?
Everyone tends to go down at some point. I don't think he will be hurt more that if he thinks he can walk through Murray that he might get caught off balance.palooka wrote:That'd be the first time in 350 amateur bouts and 31 pro fights?freddydoesdallas wrote:Has anyone seen a price on GGG touching down?
No worries. I can't see it happening. It's not really a fight to have a bet in as GGG is 1/7 best price to win by stoppage. The possible value is in a GGG points win at 13/2 with Sky Bet but I can't see Murray lasting the distance. As it happens I've just thrown a few hundred on GGG just to win in a treble with Chelsea to beat Burnley at home and Barca to beat Malaga at home which pays out at 1/2.freddydoesdallas wrote:Everyone tends to go down at some point. Cheers for the price Steve. I don't think it's great value at 10/1
I posed this question on another thread, don't think anyone came up with a bigger upset. This would be possibly surpass the Honeyghan victory imo.Bodyshot3 wrote:Just supposing Martin did win this one.....where would that rank in terms of great world title upsets pulled-off by Brit fighters?
Think it would come in pretty near the summit in my opinion...maybe on a par with Honeyghan sticking one on Curry?
To be honest, i think there would be a lot of revisionism and pulling apart of GGGs record and how it was padded out with a lot of lower level names a la 'Left Hook'. Add to that they Murray has been in with genuine world class fighters before and it gets easier to pass GGG off as hype.Boxerbeetle wrote:I posed this question on another thread, don't think anyone came up with a bigger upset.
