Is it unreasonable to believe that this could be the most disappointing fight in the sports’ history?

How on earth can a fight involving two near middle-aged men, who have both failed to score a legitimate KO in the last five years, possibly warrant the hype that it has received?

My expectation for this fight, in terms of excitement, is going to be quite low indeed!

i think the most hyped fight ever

yeah. i sadly think it is gonne dissapoint....a lot of hugging and crabbing and bad judgingmn

It will be underwhelming, like Oscar-Floyd was.

Mayweather is one of the most boring boxers to watch - he just tries to run out the clock against overmatched opponents. I imagine he'll be even more defensive-minded and take no chances against Manny. His Las Vegas judges will score rounds for him for running, clinching and elbowing his way through rounds.

I'm intrigued to see how CS will cope without this fight being relevant in the aftermath, ive only been on here 4 years,I've never known anything else

Some posters may just simply cease to exist or may return to their own planet, mission complete

It's going to be very anti-climatic for those that think it's going to be competitive. Floyd is going to win this fight decisively and make people wonder why we were every clamoring for this fight. It's a miss-match on paper and it will show in both the betting odds and the outcome of the fight. It's just another opponent for Floyd, but to the public Pacquiao is the boogie-man so chances are there will be a lot of excuses and disappointed people after the fight. Me being a Floyd fan and being happy this fight is made to finally shut up all the Floyd detractors, it will be bitter sweet on my end and won't really give a rats ass what anyone else thinks lol.

And the excuses begin before the fight even starts. When Floyd beats Pacquiao it will change nothing.

Yeah Floyd fights vs the following were very boring: Corrales, Gatti, Hatton, Ndou, Maidana I, Cotto, Judah, Ortiz, Burton, Castillo, Corley, yeah all of these fights with Floyd Mayweather were soooo boring. This is when you know a person is not really a boxing fan but either a Hater, Bigot or Racists.

The other ASS-umption those types mentioned in the last part of my first paragraph was that they think Mayweather runs but when Manny fights the same way like he vs Rios they call it boxing and they also ASS-ume that he will be defensive-minded vs Pacquiao.

I wonder what excuses they are going to have after the fight?

Folks are making a lot of incorrect assumptions when imagining how this fight will unfold.

Forget what Maidana did.

Manny is not a pressure guy, doesn't get up in your chest and stay there, doesn't cut off the ring trying to trap an opponent in a corner or against the ropes.

Manny uses his feet to get in and out and come at his opponent at angles.

Not his style to try and trap Floyd against the ropes and start wailing away ala Cotto, though no one knows what Roach might put in the playbook for this fight.

In order for Manny to be successful in outworking Floyd, he must throw in combination.

In order to throw in combination, he must avoid or neutralize counters.

He had a hell of a time doing that in 4 fights with JMM, who by the way was never the most mobile of fighters.

So folks who think Floyd's legs will be a big factor in this fight may be in for a huge disappointment.

And folks who are dismissing Floyd's superior countering ability will be in for one as well.

I repeat...this will be an easy fight for Mayweather.

Short of Kim Kardashian fan-man-style-parachuting naked into the ring with some rapper or other hanging out the back of her, there's no way that the fight can possibly live up to the hype that will come before it. Maybe if Al Haymon was revealed as the mastermind behind ISIS moments before he set Michael Buffer on fire.

It will disappoint. It will almost be a repeat of Mayweather vs Hatton, every time Pacquiao gets in close the referee will run in there to save Mayweather.

Let's stop being so negative and enjoy 2 of the best P4P going up against each other to see who is the best. It could be disappointing, it could be an all time classic, who knows. But the anticipation will be epic! Let's just enjoy the ride.

A counter for 'it makes more money now'. If they squared of in 2009, it would've been an extremely close fight. Mayweather was Mayweather and Pacman was flying and it still would've made a ton of cash. Because of how close it would've been now, we would've got rematches, possibly a trilogy, so would've, in the long run, made more money

Many of the bigger fights over the years have disappointed.
Especially when considering these 2 fighters that carry with them some of the most bias, abrasive and passionate irrational fanboys sport may have ever seen.
Disappointed is an understatement. One side or the other is going to dropping salty tears into their soggy cornflakes, with some sour grapes sprinkled ontop the next morning, no matter the result or excitement/entertainment value of the fight itself.
:OhYes:

I'm glad the fight is made, but I'm even more glad that maybe Boxrec will finally evolve away from the "who's fault is it that fight never happened" and "who's better and scared of the other" speculation/debate that has been by far the most prominent subject matter here for a while. The poor old horse has taken the stick beating for far too long.
