Boxers spar fighters to prepare for fights and the opponent not to say I sparred a world class fighter.

Titles are won fight night not during prep time.

Someone starts a thread on a boxer. A poster who was lucky enough to watch him train, shares some information and gets abused.

I have watched him train this week in Fuerte Ventura and he is looking very good and sharp.
He's had some excellent sparring with the likes of John Ryder culminating with a good 6 round work out against a highly rated Spaniard.
Game on.
Has Kell ever sparred world class fighters? 6 rounds vs an unnamed spaniard sounds about as promising as 'beating lap times'

What do you put that down to, mate, high fibre diet, or nervous anticipation?Parson Cross wrote:Kell has no movement issues.

When was junior world class? Almost a decade ago. I'm just asking if he spars top class now he's a 'champion'. I think it's a question that makes sense given the OP. I'm sorry you and little Parson see this as abuse, bless

Re: Brooks conditioning
You dont have to have a world class fighter to have good sparring........
Re: Brooks conditioning
If you're a world class boxer about to box another world class boxer I think it would be foolish to spar with boxers several levels below you in ability and attributes. The hallmark of most highly successful gyms is the availability of high class boxers - think about Kronk; there world champions were made and made to improve by sparring with other world class boxers.
Kell is about to defend his world title against a world rated challenger, how will it aid his cause if he spars British level boxers?

Styles, Styles Styles.......get the RIGHT sparring in for the fighter you are in with next.....not saying you shouldn't have as high lvl of sparring as possible...but look at who your opponent is and get the right people in.
Re: Brooks conditioning
I appreciate your point Crazyboy and I think that a world class boxer would have more speed, power and timing than a lower level boxer. Maybe this is part of the reason many fighters don't stop at the top for so long?
Re: Brooks conditioning
How do we know kell hasn't had top class sparing?
We've seen it mentioned he spared some Spanish bloke. Well I'm pretty sure that at some point in training all fighters have a weaker sparing partner at some point aswell as some top class soaring

It appears that Kell got his training right. Thanks to Parson for the update from the camp. Perhaps the posters who called him a prick could tell us which world-class southpaw Kell should have sparred, given that Pacquiao is preparing for Floyd and Judah is sparring Floyd.

Re: Brooks conditioning
The ideal sparring partner should replicate as near as possible the kind of opponent the boxer is due to face. Imagine pacquiao trying to find somebody like mayweather to spar. Who would you get in? Nobody else in the world is as good.
When you get to world title level it is difficult to find world class standard replicas because there arent that many around hence the "world class" level status. Therefore you just have to find fighters who can replicate the movements of the opponent. If an unknown Spaniard is same size , same movement, footwork, same style kind of fighter then its surely a sound idea getting a few rounds in and see what he offers.

In a perfect world brook would have a jo jo dan clone made to spar against in prep for his fight. I think its difficult (and expensive) getting top 10 worldies in to spar. Looks like he had enough.

Well this old prick had a great night.
Just happened to be my birthday as well.
Mandatory out of the way so let's see what June brings.
Better keep the sparring partners hush hush Bradley might be a bit pricey.

The Ingle system works...simple as. Its proven itself at all levels time and time again. Many have left the system and thought they could better themselves and have ended up on their harris!
Very few have left the ingle umbrella and gone onto achieve more than the Ingle gym culture would have brought them anyway.
Boxing is subjective in all manners, training, sparring, scoring, refffing and punditing.... lets all enjoy the input. we all bring a different bottle of booze to the party.

Re: Brooks conditioning
I wonder if that was the problem with Paul Butler ahead of the Tete fight? I know that there was talk that Butler had good sparring but theres a huge difference between British Super Flyweights and a guy like Tete.palooka wrote:If you're a world class boxer about to box another world class boxer I think it would be foolish to spar with boxers several levels below you in ability and attributes. As for Kell's sparring here, with out being rude to Dan, I don't think Kell would have really required top sparring to prepare for Dan who had little to bother him. Against a proper world class fighter (Khan, Thurman or Bradley for example) he's perhaps need to up the quality of sparring.
Likewise styles obviously matter. Going back to the Butler/Tete point, Butler would have been served well to have sparred with a rangy southpaw with a good jab, probably needing to look at Bantamweights if not Super Bantamweights just for someone with similar reach. If Brook was to take on Khan he'd need to spar with someone with lightning speed whilst sparring with someone to prepare for Rios would easier due to how basic Rios is.
Re: Brooks conditioning
They couldn't find a southpaw big enough to mirror Tete, they found a Spanish lad but they would have had to fly out there for a day of sparring, then back home because he had a fight, so they didn't bother. It showed in the fight that he hadn't had the sort of sparring he needed and they should really have paid the Spanish lad not to fight, brought him over to spar and given him a fight on the undercard if needs be, can't afford to cut corners in preparation for a world title fight.Boxing Prospect wrote:I wonder if that was the problem with Paul Butler ahead of the Tete fight?
