I like Richard poxon but this was poor matching. I just didn't see the "risk/reward" here, If Adam would've chinned him KHOM would have been too old and shot and now he's lost ppl are saying he'll not budge past domestic class. Bugs V Adam any1? Incidentally I do love a good import capable of derailing careers, takes me back to the days of Jose seyes and buster Drayton

I think it was decent match making. Tough match making. Thats what we need more of. If matchroom had been in charge it would just have been another knock over job.
It ain't the end of the line for Adam.

Well you got that right, and boy did his manager get that massively wrong. What a harsh wake up call that was. Heavy knock down but foster probably shouldn't have pushed him back down before he even had a chance to get up..one punch, not a brutal beating.
Shame cause Adam's confidence will be shattered now - he's obviously a very good puncher, as Khomitsky's face showed after - more sensible matchmaking would have seen him put in with someone who could have out boxed him, to show how he needs a defence, rather than a heavy hitter like the Russian, who beats him in the harshest manner possible.

Etches had Khomitsky stunned a few times especially with the right hand over the top,had him on his toes but he left himself open for the same shot numerous times before the end came
I would have liked the ref to start a count though even if it meant abandoning it if it was clear Adam was in distress

I agree with the above.
If the purpose of matchmaking is to just make sure that your boxer wins then they got it wrong, but after 18 wins his team had to step up the opposition some time.
They stepped it up and he fell sort - at least now they know what they are dealing with.
When you look at who us in the same division domestically, I can't see Etches being any more than a top 5 UK boxer.

Is there anything more overrated in boxing than an unbeaten record?
Its more important to pit your wits against good fighters than pad your record out
When you think about it we are robbed of hundreds, maybe even thousands of potential match up while good fighters are boxing guys with names we can't pronounce to " get experience"
Its like watching Barcelona play Wrexham every week just so they can prepare for Real Madrid at the end of the season.....kinda
Careful matchmaking is obviously essential first 5 or so fights but if everyone stepped up after that then they'd all have similar experience by the time they met a live opponent

True - although at least Wrexham would be trying to win.
It is widely understood that the journeymen are not even trying to win, just trying not to get stopped which would stop them from working for 28 days.

I was having Donovan Boucher flashbacks, meself...
BTW: Etches looked fvck-awful. Is he normally that wide open? The commentary was, of course, terribad; when Etches head rocked back from jabs they went "Adam's showing good defence" & when he ate huge overhand rights over his own lazy jab they ignored it.

Known Adam since his amateur days and basically he has always been a one dimensional banger, I thought it would be a gassing up job and then Khomisky stops him in 7 or 8. Tricky bringing him back.

Got myself a few quid with this one.
crazy price at 9/4.
Had to contain my joy as I would have been chinned at the arena haha.
on a differant note....I was sat next to a cousin of Amir Khan last night and I have to say he was a top lad and a gentleman....had very good chat with him and we both agreed on Khan beating Kell Brook!

Khomitsky's a bit of a gatekeeper to Euro level isn't he.
Really didn't think Nick Blackwell got enough credit at the time after their fight, maybe he will now though.

I'd give Khomitsky a great chance of winning the European, he's far better than some of the lads that Macklin,Barker and Saunders defended against

If Khomitsky was British or based out of Germany I reckon he would have one the EBU by now.

He's progressed fine since starting out and I see this jump up in class as high risk and pretty unnecessary given Etches age.
I am a fan of Etches and hope he pulls it off but I cannot see him troubling Khomitsky and going at him with a limitem defence trying to bomb him out could be a suicide mission.
I can only see a clear Khomitsky victory here and probably by mid round stoppage.
what's people's thoughts on this fight?
Well called sir

I just thought it was a bit crazy matchmaking.
Khomitsky had beaten Jamie Moore...nearly beat Martin Murray....got skanked blind v Stiglitz. ....gave Ryan Rhodes a tough fight.....smashed Buglione.....drew with Nick Blackwell....
yet young Adam had fought who exactly.......and in that he did look a bit easy to hit against the Mexican lad a few fights ago
yes I agree with stepping up a fighters progress but matching them tough and suicide missions are the world's apart.
but what do I know.....I'm just a fat bloke who drinks too much beer

I'd give him a good shot of it, and he's certainly better than many fighters who've run up unbeaten records and won titles with careful matchmaking. Darnell Boone is along the same lines, though he doesn't have quite the standing in the division that Khomitsky does, and I'm very curious about how things would've unfolded for these types had their careers been handled differently.

Anyone seen "The Ring"? Unfortunately it looks like Etches watched the video
Also a pretty good impression of the "Scream" mask now that I think about it.

Jesus, poor kid what a terrible photo that is. He can definitely come back from this, he took some hard whacks earlier in the fight, so I don't think he's chinny, he just walked onto a perfect shot - and he can certainly punch himself, as the Russian's marked up face showed after.
For inspiration he doesn't need to look any further than Derry Matthews, three straight knockout losses, but bounces back and fighting for a world title in a few weeks time.
Number one priority for Adam now is: get a defence.

Just shows how good Golovkin is too having blasted Khomitsky out in five in only his 8th fight.

Bit of a commentator's problem I suppose, as their job is to make comments, but he over-egged it a lot. Then Jim Watt, who I've always liked, suggested Foster (?) Was wrong to wave it straight off. As though Etches was Lazarus.
I rarely saw Etches' hands anywhere near his own face and he did not look confident from the off - probably as he knew Khomitsky was the real deal, and a very real step-up in class. Yet the commentator ended successive rounds with statements about a look of "real confidence" and looking "very impressive"...none of which was accurate.
I'd not seen Etches box before, although I'd read he could crack. Good luck to him, he's learnt to keep his hands up but he shouldn't be needing to learn in that way at 18-0 imo.

At some stage you have to take a risk.... Unless you're lucky enough to be Peter McNeeley but that's a rare position to be in!
Anyway plenty of fighters have an unexpected loss and come back - Bugner, Bruno, McGuigan, Wlad etc

I accept he needed stepping up, but this was matchmaking suicide. There was NOTHING to gain as the OP said, if he wins he's beat a 40 year old who's past it, but if he loses he's been found out.
I'm all for tough matchmaking, but if I was his manager I wouldn't have been putting him anywhere near Khomitsky.

Hindsight is 20:20 mate; Blackwell seemed to be handling Khomitsky okay and prior to this fight you'd place Blackwell on round about the same level as Etches right?
Getting knocked like that isn't good. But it could be the making of Etches too and the wake up call he needed to tighten up his passive defense and be more defensively responsible after his letting his own punches go.

Well said. Far too many boxing fans are happy to write off a young boxer after an early set-back. Hope Etches recovers well from this, he's learned his lesson the hard way.
