BI, I find it somewhat sweet that you still believe there should be some logic in terms of position of rankings that decide fights. Hopefully Khan doesn't get the fight he wants off of a fight like this, but let's be honest, if things go his way he probably will.

Who's saying that? When is Amir fighting Floyd or Manny? I don't think he's getting either of those guys at this point. I think many of us are just trying to understand things from the fighters, in this case Amir's, pov.

lol, but yea some people forgot the reality we live in. I'm positive Muhammad Ali & Ray Robinson would be called "duckers", "scared" or "cherry pickers" if they were around today. Theres so much bs boxers gotta deal with. You gotta align TV channels deals, promoter contracts & abc belts up to make fights these days. Plus you gotta make sure there's open dates, the opponent can make it worthwhile for the fighter, promoter, channel & abc belt lol. Sh!t is insane nowadays.

Algieri is a good fighter, even if he has one loss against one of the best fighters in the world. Khan is also a good fighter, even though he attracts more irrational hate than almost anyone else in the sport. It's a fight between two similarly good fighters, although I think I agree with others that the styles match-up favors Khan. Consecutive wins against Collazo, Alexander, and Algieri would be a pretty good run to build up to something bigger. With Khan being far from undefeated, I have no doubt that he will be willing to take a more dangerous fight in the near future.

i would even throw rios on that list before algieri, and not sure why alvarez, andrade, charlo, and lara are on a list of
potential welter opponents for khan. i know people have mentioned cotto at 160 as a possible matchup but, lol

140 and 147 are so slammed with talent that there should be no difficulty finding a really good fight for Khan. Algieri, in my mind, is 0-2 in his last 2 and has a career best win of Emanuel Taylor. Khan proves nothing by beating him.

Is Algieri contracted to Top Rank? And if so is this going to be a TR/HBO show?

This is just a "keep busy" fight for Khan and I really don't think it's a bad call for him. If you were next in line for a fight with Manny or Floyd, would you risk losing that pay day? I wouldn't pick a big puncher that could take some starch out of me heading into a megafight either. That's just dumb. Perfect pick in my opinion. He'll get some work in and still be fresh as a daisy when he hits the bright lights in 8 months against Floyd or Manny. Smart Move. Not popular, but very smart.

Who said he is next in line? Amir is the only one who thinks he is next in line. And that's because Amir thinks he is king of the world.

I am so glad you said this.Kagn believes he is on Pac's and Floyds level.
Why?????????? He has proven nothing besides being a contender. He is not the next coming. And is
far from a p4p top fighter.
Kahn needs to avenge his losses and beat a couple of top welterweights before talking about
Pac and Floyd. The guy is a blow hard.I am just waiting on his next inevitable knock out.
Amir Khan will face Chris Algeri in May

Brook said the fight don't make sense,he's fighting Algieri who didn't win a round against Manny Pacquiao,a feather puncher, not a big puncher.Brook said it dosen't make sense to me,im world champion, theres a world title and a bagful of money. He's fighting this guy who's bringing nothing to the table.

Wow. Even though I predicted he would choose between Broner and Algieri, it is still hard to believe. Khan then publicly states that Algieri is an A class opponent, and says Brook is not on his level? He is right about that - Brook is a level above him. If I were Brook I would turn down Khan in the future, and not let him have a chance to redeem himself. A lot of people here hate the word duck, but this is an obvious duck by Khan anyway you spin it.
According to Dan Rafael, Khan also turned down Bradley in a title eliminator bout. After hearing the winner would earn the mandatory for Brook's belt, not surprising. I'm sure Khan hopes Brook stumbles somewhere so he never has to fight him. Brook even called his winner take all bluff.
At least the Broner fight would have been entertaining, and has more of a "name" that Khan says is important. If you look now at Khan's last half dozen fights, he fights two welters, one shot (Collazo) and one blown up light welter (Alexander) recently exposed by Porter, a shot but game (Diaz) who I and many thought beat Khan, a feather fisted lightweight (Molina), and two losses to Garcia and Peterson. Now he takes on a light welter guy rebounding from an embarrassing defeat? The only thing I can think Haymon is thinking is that Khan is one KO loss away from being totally irrelevant. I hope it backfires on him, and Algieri gives him fits or finds a way to win. Showtime apparently is even refusing to broadcast the fight.
Khan deserves all the crap he is getting. He says I want the Floyd Mayweathers, the Manny Pacquiaos, the Keith Thurmans, the Miguel Cottos, the Tim Bradleys, guys like that. Not Brook. Then, he fights Algieri.

Just a few days ago Khan said Brook was a nobody, not on his level. He wants to fight the A class opponents like the Floyd Mayweathers, the Manny Pacquiaos, the Keith Thurmans, the Miguel Cottos, the Tim Bradleys.......now he can add "The Chris Algieris", guys like that.
All I can do is laugh. Poetic justice will be Khan struggling or losing to Algieri. Even a remotely close fight will cause him to fall. What a waste of talent.

apparently IBF called for Amir Khan v Tim Bradley. I am so angry if Khan takes this fight agains algieri, even if he makes an excuse for a warm up fight to take on the winner of pac and MW.
he has made me look fool and no one makes me look a fool apart from me.

If Khan is guaranteed the winner of Manny/Floyd, why would anyone support such a fight?
How can anyone respect Khan's path to the "top" over the past 3 years?
We need to openly admit, from a very young age, that the whole notion of earning anything is completely false. However, we need that carrot on a string in order for people to accept all the bullshit we put up with. In that way, boxing is the perfect reflection of reality. Look at what so many other fighters from 140-154 have been doing since 2012 to get to the top. Look at Khan's approach. Whatever.
I will not watch Floyd/Manny VS Khan live. I will not encourage anyone else to do so either.

I added the 154 pound fighters because Floyd does go up there every once in a while and Khan (not "people") did mention Cotto as a possible opponent. I also mentioned them to add to the list of guys who Khan will potentially leapfrog if given Floyd/Manny.
'I walk around at 160lb and he [Cotto] has the title at 160lb but we know he's not a big 160lb fighter. He got stopped by Pacquiao and Mayweather beat him convincingly so a good boxer would beat him. If we can get him down to 155lb I'd take it in a heartbeat.' Khan

Watching Kahn is like watching a NASCAR event.Eventually you are going to see him crash.
I will watch it because I want to see him lose.

Whether he deserves the fight with Floyd or Manny or not, most experts think that he's next in line for the winner or loser of THE FIGHT. I'm not blowing Khan here, I think he's a punk. But he's alway had great skill that I do appreciate watching. And the fact that he can be knocked out at any second, makes his fights very exciting. Hunter has improved him considerably and I know that he will give both Manny and Floyd all they can handle. Everyone will see.

LOL no doubt. I don't care if Amir wins or loses. I got zero skin in the game with him in any kinda way like that. But there is no denying he's been one of the most interesting & fun top, but not quite tip top elite level guys (lately anyway, he was top 2 with Tim at 140 for awhile although that seems like forever ago now) to watch.

Just listened to khan who had stated this fight is a warm up while he waits to see if pac or mw will be up for a clash. . Any other clash would be bad to make the for ie Thurman Brook so hopefully will see khan either v pac or mw of not then there's a few fights out there for him

Khan can try to spin it anyway he wants, but it won't help. All the recent crap he has filled the media with about Brook not being on his level, he wants only the biggest fights, blah blah blah. Then chooses CA? He also turned down Bradley. Broner would have been entertaining too. If he wants some respect in the division, he has to fight the top guys. He has had enough warm-ups. He is afraid he would lose, plain and simple.
Floyd fights in September, so not sure why he even mentions him now. Due to Ramadan Khan can't fight in September. Anyone think Floyd would fight Khan now even if he could? Maybe if Khan beat someone like Brook, Thurman, Bradley, Maidana, or even Porter, but he turned them all down. Hell, even Berto is much better than CA.
