Palooka.

Its been something on my agenda for many years, getting all these fights onto dvd before I die. (Hopefully not quite yet) Growing up I sat in front of the tv for boxing, thats when boxing was boxing, I would get up all hours of the night to watch and tape fights. As you will see I have many thousand good fights that blokes around my age (46) will appreciate. Back in the late 80's to 90's up north we have boxing action that was not shown down South, such as the Billy Hardy v Ronnie Carroll fight in Tape 3.

I just want to get them all onto dvd. I just hope Youtube allow me enough data space to get them all up over 250 tapes worth.

The upcoming tape I have when Bruno fought Tyson (1) there was a good 1 hour documentary beforehand which you will later see it was really good. I have a little on Paul Sykes too. Some good action will be upcoming to a tv near you soon!

enjoying them so far....tillis v mason just watched.

i'm 45 in june, so the same vintage as you....and i used to buy vhs tapes from adverts in the back of boxing news and the like...i think it was 25 quid for 4 hour vhs tapes.
long story short...living with a lass in her dads house in early 90s and i had to store around 130 vhs tapes in their garage, which was secure...but..you guessed it...it got broken into and all were taken...local kids i suspected.
anyway...likes of orlando canizales and khasio galaxy i was well into then...used to be on itv in middle of the night with gary newbond presenting if i remember.
used to like the tv channel 'screensport' which was on in earliest days of sky tv...they had a 'pro-box' show which had really early eubank and herbie hide fights on.....barry mcguigan was a great commentator then, he had jim macdonnell beside him too, and i read there was tension between them still then.

Mimmy and Doug, I'm the same vintage (45) and I used to buy the videos out of boxing news as well - it's where I first saw Sanchez and Arguello, I loved that time of my life - I had an oil painting of Sal Sanchez done by an artist that advertised in boxing news and had a full on perm - I took a photo of Sanchez into the hairdressers, it was cool having a hero non of mates had heard of.

I used to tape Trans World Sport which sometimes had fights on, the Galaxy brothers would fight at a crocodile farm and other crazy places.

I just hopew i have enought data space on youtube, however if not I will have to open another channel.

lol no worries just watching Gary Jacobs v George Collins.

Jacobs went on to fight James Mcgirt (which I have) but was hopelessly out classed 8 rounds to 2.

Wally Swift Jr, I remember that name Palooka, im sure hes on my tapes somewhere.

Im just converting another tape with some good fights on it however very badly damaged with mould on the tape. So the quality is not going to be tiptop. We will give it a go though.

I've never seen Wally Snr box but remember watching Jnr box Collins and I was so impressed with how Wally carried himself and I thought his name just suited him - he seemed a throwback - I named my son after him.
