My mate told me about this fight was being talked about when I seen him a couple of hours ago... I was convinced that he was having a laugh at my expense... Guess I owe him a pint now.
This, I actually can't believe this is being discussed.

Why not? Ward will have been out of the ring for over 18 months by the time of his next fight.

Smith is a top 20 level guy in the division. What is so crazy about Ward fighting him on his comeback?

I'm pleased that Ward is back out, he's got to box someone, why not Smith? I think he'll have too much of everything for Paul but I've been wrong before.

No, it's not a great fight.

Smith doesn't deserve the level of disrespect that he is getting though.

Why is he so much more ridiculous of an opponent than Edwin Rodriguez was?

Who is disrespecting him? No one has actually insulted him nor said anything particularly derogatory about Paul.

The simple truth is that Paul isn't a match for Andre Ward. And when you consider that he's coming off a 2 loss streak and this is his third World Title shot in a row, then that's pretty outrageous. Smith has had more opportunities over the past year than what most fighters ever have in their lifetime.
:shame:

That is a embarrassingly poor example of trying to illustrate your point, Rodriguez was a joke of a fight too.

The lack of respect for Smith as a fighter is disrespect.

And he's done better than most with the opportunities.

Don't be ridiculous. It was a perfectly good point.

And you would have us consider Smith, as a fighter, on par with Ward? That's the only logical inference of that statement.

Smith LOST TWICE. I wouldn't consider that doing particularly well, would you?

And now, he's being lined up to face the best man in the division - How exactly are any of us being disrespectful? All you have to do is consider and accept the facts as they are... It's really not all that difficult to understand surely?

To an insane person, maybe.

Yes, I would actually.

People are being disrespectful by acting like this is the most ridiculous fight that they can imagine being made.

Smith is a decent fighter at world level, the 2nd Arthur bout showed his level. Ward was proven best in the division but that was a while ago, he may have a lot of ring rust - Smith has been pretty lucky but has run wiith his luck, if he wins it doesn't make him best in the division.

I don't have a clue what he earned in the Abraham fights. Expe should be able to reveal all but do be aware the documents he reels off to prove this will be written in crayon on some Preston North End branded post it notes.

Has Smith ever beaten a fighter above domestic level? Every time he's stepped up he's been beaten.

I thought Ward was facing Periban? Hopefully the winner of DeGale v Dirrell will take Ward on although Dirrell wasn't too keen on the fight a few years back. I'd like to see Paul Smith vs Fielding but I've just seen that Fielding vs Callum Smith has went to purse bids (good fight also).

Because the way he goes on he seems to thinks he's world class now. However most people believe that to be world class you have to beat someone world class, not lose to them. Smiths best win is Tony Dodson.

If he gets the Ward fight it will be because of his two competitive fights with Abraham rather than any of the wins on his record.

It's not all about wins.

Payday for Paul that's good won't do anything for our credibility over there though.
How Ward gets up for a fight like this is beyond me though.
