Irish journeyman, Kevin McBride, looked to be well on his way to being 'Iron' Mike Tyson's next opponent on July 30th. But when Shelly Finkel told Fightnews on Friday that "McBride was out" and British heavyweight "Danny Williams was in" because of a "money issue," McBride contacted Figtnews. He states: "I thought I was the guy who was suppose to fight Mike Tyson! My lawyer, Mike Monahan, says that there might be a standing oral agreement, and he might enforce it. I really want to fight Tyson. And, I turned down fights because I was waiting to fight him. I agreed to all the terms...the money, the date and the venue. My promoter Richie Cappiello said that they were going to give me $350,000 plus $50,000 in training expenses. But, things changed when the promoters changed from K-1 to Straight Out Promotions. I know I would be a better opponent that (Danny) Williams because people would be coming from Boston and Ireland to see me fight. People say I haven't fought anybody, but I fought the same guys that the Klitschko's have fought. I'm not saying I'm the best fighter in the world, but you don't have to be to beat Tyson. It only takes one punch in heavyweight boxing. It has always been my dream to fight Tyson, ever since I was 9 years old. I'm not knocking Peter McNeely (former Tyson foe), but he is half Irish and I'm 100% Irish, and that's a big difference! Look, all I want to do is fight. I'll fight Tyson for free... just for the honor." Finkel told Fightnews "There was never a completed deal with McBride, and his side knew it. When it came time that they couldn't get that money, they wouldn't go lower. So, we went with someone else."

McBride's been stitched up before the fight as opposed to after it.

If Williams gets through 3 rounds he has a shot, he's strong enough to deal with Tyson physically, and after 3, will Tyson be throwing any shots?
I give Danny a slim chance.
I agree James. There are a lot of assumptions being made here.

I actually dont think this is too bad a fight for Danny Williams.
Firstly theres the payday, a reported £600 000, not to be shiffed at. (unless your jason cook
)
Secondly, there arent that many good fights left for Williams any more. In the right frame of mind Danny is too good for the domestic scene, possibly for the commonwealth belt too, but has been found wanting at European level so it could be the case that he may be looking at this as one last big payday before thinking about calling it a day.
Thirdly, if he wins (and i admit its quite a big if) then suddenly all sorts of opportunities and paydays open up for him. I reckon if he managed to topple rusty mike then a certain roy jones may not be too far away from his door.
Im going to stick my neck out here and say that if Danny is on top of his game, and more importantly in the right frame of mind, he'll win this.

yeah, you have stuck you neck out, but i give Danny a better chance than most have been. Danny mentally has changed over the last 6 months or so. He is more confident and no longer heaps pressure on himself, he goes inmto the ring relaxed. This was reflected in the 3rd sprott fight when he was too relaxed as he underestimated Sprott.
If Danny comes in great shape, physically and mentally, he could frsutrate Tyson for a few rounds, ala Botha. But like with Botha, when Tyson lands on of his specials...it will be over.
Danny was under a lot of pressure for the Sam fight, He was expected to win, and it was his biggest fight, make or break time.
This time around he's got nothing to lose.

the thing that worries me about williams is that u can easily hurt him
i've seen him get shaken up by much weaker punchers than mike tyson.
i know mikey boy has gone back but he's still dangerous in the first few rds and is a handfull to deal with for a guy like williams.

I don't think Steve Collins used Paul McKenna, wasn't that a wind up to get to Chris Eubank.
I don't think Williams should have a hypnotherapist, but a good Sport Psychologist - now, where can you find one of those

I don't think McKenna hypnotysed Collins I think he just gave him some sort of 'positive thinking' tape to listen to.

According to Collins himself, he used tapes which were intitally sent to him by a guy called Tony Quinn which would help him focus and relax. Prior to the Eubank fight he worke with Quinn on a 1:1 basis. Quinns a sports psychologist who during his sessions with Collins, prior to the Eubank fight taught Chris the importance of realising his potential and nullifying the unimportant factors.
The "hypnotism" line was used mearly to unsettle and un-nerve Eubank.
Paul McKenna was used in a similar way by Nigel Benn

i give danny a tiny chance here.. and u might as well put a bit of money on danny cos the odds for him to to win will be wicked - i reckon tyson will win inside three but u never know.... danny to win in the 8th woud be about 66-1.............

yeah I give willams a chance. A slim one but its not a total mismatch.
This could be a fantsic move for Danny, a real chance to grasp the nettle.
Or it could just be a payday.
Depends how hew looks at it how well he will do.
I wish him the best of luck, I hope he pulls it off.
