I thought McDonnell was the dominant fighter from the fourth round on and deserved to win by a couple of points. Kameda was far from classy in the post fight interview.

Didn't look good for Jamie after the knockdown, but he came back strongly & definitely won a close but clear fight. Kameda was very disappointing. Just shows the belts are a load of sh!t really.

Yamanaka would be a step too far, I can't see Eddie going for it. I'm sure Jamie would take the fight if a Decent offer was made though.

Japenses world champs aren't known for travelling and seem have good money behind them at home so can't see it. They could offer McDonnell good money themselves though would depend on if last nights fight had any coverage over there.

NTV have bank rolled Yamanaka heavily, his last fight drew something 15,000,000 viewers so there is certainly great money behind him. The Kameda's are very well known over there and the fight made some headlines over there (I'll admit I was shocked by how few online stories there is in the Japanese media today who seem to be happier about Hasegawa's return).

RE coverage-It certainly wasn't screened live. I suspect WOWOW will air it on delay after a week or two.

Really pleased for McDonnell, he has belief in himself and went for it against a highly rated opponent.

That he thought he won every round. Basically the typical Kameda crap where arrogance is seen to be the key. The 12th round was one of the stupidest rounds I've ever seen a fighter fight...well other than Daiki's 12th round against Naito (if you're not seen that it's actually hilariously bad stuff from one of Tomoki's older brothers)

Thanks - I thought it would be something along those lines! I get the impression he thought he would walk through McDonnell especially with his willingness to vacate the WBO to fight him.

Honestly thought Kameda would be far too fast for him but like in previous fights if seen him his big flaw is finding his range.

Great performance from McDonnell! Have to hold my hands up and say I did not see that coming! Really close fight but Jamie just done enough. Wouldn't mind seeing him in with Cabellero.

Nice job....Jamie keeps on finding a way to win wherever he is and whoever her gets; the sign of a bit of a class.

He wasn't badly hurt in the first place, so I don't think he showed great recuperative powers.

Maybe your right either way he was back to normal by the time the round finished,surely he must have been hurt though it landed as flush as you like

He didn't seem to be, but he got put down so he was probably hurt to some extent.

He seemed fine when he got up though. Unless I'm remembering it wrong.

Jamie does seem to have recovered quickly, it was a hard, flush shot, he's boxing really well - he seems to have the confidence he belongs at the highest level, he's doing really well.

What a cracking fight best of the night and probably a few months. ...

Great result for McD. I had it 114-113 Kameda so I disagree with some posters above who thought it was a clear win for McDonnell, but it was very close and the decision was fair. In a pre-fight post I suggested that it was close to 50-50, and I never understood why some thought Tomoki was a level above McDonnell; it wasn't close to being case of him being thrown to the wolves and that's not just being said in hindsight.

I would love to see McDonnell fight Yamanaka, who is still the top fighter at the weight in my opinion, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

I'd like to say fair play for Dave Coldwell for stepping in as well....kept Jamie's mind on the game

Brilliant stuff from McDonnell, if he was in a bigger weight division (heavier) he would get even more praise for his efforts, I remember starting out watching him and thinking he was decent but British level would be the limit, he had a loss against Chris Edwards and that looked about the level.

He has made enormous strides and just seems to get in there and do the job, I think he really is a fighter who fights to the level of opponent, we hear that phrase used often and I usually think its bollocks but he has upped his game when in with quality opposition, Ceja and Kameda were really no mugs and world class and he has won both fights, deservedly too.

Well Done Jamie Mc, you are a credit to your sport and yourself.

cant believe how many people seem to dislike Jamie, everyone always seems to count him out time and time again, for me he is a legitimate World Champion and a 100% World level fighter.

was really happy for him on saturday, battled through the early knockdown to come back and win the fight, Top lad and deserves alot more respect.

I don't think many people actively dislike him, although the way he split with Hobson left a bit of a sour taste.

i was just going off what people were saying earlier on that hes not a legitimate world champion and he was lucky to win the fight, personally i had him winning the fight, i understand what you mean about the Hobson split but boxing is a very selfish sport and you have to look at whats best for yourself as a fighter, i think matchroom and tv exposure was the right choice.
