Personally if a guy doesn't come to win, or is punished for winning, then that's bad for the sport... I understand the argument that they are the "life blood of the sport" but if that was true why are we not seeing similar types of fighters around the world? Of course we sees "cans" being crushed all over the place but the only place where we see habitual losers seems to be the UK and Thailand, where they import Indonesian's to do the dirty work.
I can FULLY understand a journeyman getting a call on 72 hours notice to fill in and have NO problem with that but when a card if stacked with prospect Vs Journeymen bouts there has to be some questions asked.

I agree - however, who should be asking the questions and why aren't they doing so?
I would suggest that the BBBofC (who sanction these fights) should be asking the questions.
I also think that they do not ask the questions that they should be asking as they do not want to bite the hand that feeds them by upsetting the 2 big promoters.
If they ask questions that these promoters do not like then I am sure that the promoters will show their support to a sanctioning body that does not ask those questions and the BBBofC will be marginalised/pushed out.

Meaning MBC. The BBBofC sanction some right shows. I'd like to see some sort of quality control where at least the main event has to be competitive on a show.no issues with numerous fights vs journeymen as long as there is a couple of competitive fights and a good main

So how would you guys run and clean up the state of affairs if you had control ? In a fair manor without upsetting the journeymen and still allowing them to earn a living. Surley if we live in a fair society you cant just dismiss them as cancer to the sport. Do you alter the matchmaking affairs to match more equal ? For example stop matching 10 and 0 records with guys over 50 losses. Not a good example but hope you get my drift. Dont forget the bottom end guys do have a right to box providing all medically fit.

Where does this "have a right to box" Idea come from? Not saying your wrong but I don't have the right to play premier league football... Surely no one has the right to become a doctor with out the training, so surely a fighter should have to pass an ability test as well as the medicals?
For what it's worth I don't think they are a cancer, I think the match making is. We should do a graded system of some sort where good prospect (I. E. Someone with some good amateur pedigree or who is around 10-0) can only face journey men who have proven they are willing to try and win rather than make up the numbers.
Sticking two journeymen type fighters in bouts together would certainly be better to see the the Prospect vs Habitual loser match ups we've become accustomed to.
The problem is that the British scene has the ticket deal mentality where a fighter needs to pay for themselves, until that is changed, then we're probably going to be stuck with status quo. Maybe promoters need to find other revenue streams or something to make shows profitable, I'm not sure, but the current system is very heavily flawed.

Good post prospect good answers. The right to box I suppose comes from my own personal experience. I read on the area chairmans page he works with the elite boxers in world events. Let me tell you Mr chairman we cant all be kell Brooks of this world allowing you all expenses paid holidays to events. The guys at the bottom still have a right providing medically fit and have the intelligence to hold a conversation and have experience amateur or pro

To get to the Kell Brook status you need to start at grass root levels hence the journeyman aka cancers to the sport. Vicious circle without the kell Brooks jamie macdonalds you dont get your texastrip all eexpenses paid by the licence holders.

Generally it isn't Hearn and Warren that are responsible for those sorts of cards, usually it's small hall promoters that fill the card with prospect v journeymen, then put a well matched 10 rounder on to top the bill.

To be clear, I specifically mean professional boxing as licensed by the BBBoC.
It is no more a right to be licensed by the BBBoC than it is to be a member of the Groucho Club.

I was with the BBBC for 7yrs young pup you have a lot to learn. Your right though nobody has the right to box. Freddie Flintoff licenced by BBBC what a load of poo. He shouldn't have. Ask your body what happened there. My amateurs would beat him.

Having been to a show last night it does appear journeymen seem to have a bit more of a go if they think they can win. But to get robbed after having a go (sometimes I don't mean results but scorecard margins) then they owl ultimately lose easier next time. Then getting called I front of the board and so on possibly having their license suspended due to poor decisions.
Grates me

Looks like the cull is still on going by the bbbc as my good friend Kris laight has been suspended. Kris is a master at what he does very rarely getting stopped or cut. I've seen for years him been on the wrong end of a decision. Come on board have a look at the import overseas poo you allow to participate in getting blown away. Its ripping the paying fans off. As ive said before introduce a kind of league ability and record wise so you get more 50/40 matches. Easy don't let a kid 10 and 0 fight a 1 and 69.

Seawright, McAuley and Warburton are first class PROFESSIONAL boxers. They never win but they are always available and only occasionally take a bit of punishment. Seawright is a spoiler but hardly ever takes a solid punch. McAuley is a tough lad and is perhaps too competitive for his own good. I would become a bit concerned about Kevin - he does take a lot. Warburton is very clever. Sometimes he decides he's not going to mix it and when that happens you couldn't hit him with a handful of rice. Sometimes he makes a go of it and can turn the tables very quickly on a local 'star'.
I have a bit of sympathy with the Board with the 4 losses rule. They need to do something to show they are monitoring the situation to ensure boxers don't suffer long term damage. From those I've mentioned above I wouldn't have a problem with Seawright and Warburton carrying on in the same vein, but I would be having McAuley in.
The 'journeymen' are great guys, I admire them much more than the likes of Khan, Mayweather and ,sadly, Froch who seems to be a bit of a bore. They are a small hall promoters dream and deserve every penny they get.
By the way, I'm glad to hear Michael Stuppart has called it a day. Best of luck to the brave boy - but he was getting battered every fight without fail.

Very rarely winning either though, 9 wins in 216 fights isn't great. What's the difference between him turning up and surviving for 4 rounds, or an import coming in and getting blown away? Neither are much of a contest.

I see your point exe. But these guys give the debutants 4 rd experience providing it goes the distance in which laights case he does. When your stepping in as a pro for the first time as when I did laight never hurt me but gave me great rds 6x2 I think bacj then. Its a great introduction / learning experience.

I must say he was competitive for any debutant and thats his job in boxing we can't all be Kell Brooks and win titles.
