Who next for Degale?

It'll probably be Paul Smith the luck Smith's got.

Re: Who next for Degale?
I think if Groves wins his next fight then Hearn will manage to get together another PPV including Groves and Degale on Froch or Brooks undercard against weak voluntary opponents designed to make them look good. Both will win by impressive stoppages against weak opponents and then bitch to one another in a Bellew Cleverly style WWE worthy publicity stunt to hype up their hatred for one another.
Then they will fight each other in a huge wembley event in front of 80,000 fans with Carl Froch commentating for sky explaining how cock hardening it is to be in the ring receiving the love of 80,000 Cobra loving beer drinking boxing enthusiasts.
(I understand that Matchroom don't promote Groves but id fully expect Sauerland to work with them to hype up a PPV showdown)

Re: Who next for Degale?
I don't think the Groves of the DeGale fight, or Froch I, is ever coming back. If the first Froch fight didn't ruin him psychologically, the second will have.
Re: Who next for Degale?
Do people give Degale a good shot against Froch?
I can't see it. Ability wise I can almost make a case for him but if he tries to take his foot off the pedal and coast for 4 rounds in the middle of the bout Froch will grind him into the canvas.
I think Degale can get the better of Froch in spells and would win some rounds but I don't see him being able to keep it up for 12 rounds and I don't see him having the dig to deter Froch either. He would need to do one of those things to a have a good shot at beating him.

Re: Who next for Degale?
It just depends on how age affects Froch. Froch at his best destroys DeGale, but he's not getting any younger. If he gets old overnight, DeGale wins. If not, he loses.davie wrote:Do people give Degale a good shot against Froch?

Re: Who next for Degale?
All right, he can chase the fight. Just like Froch chased Calzaghe. If Froch doesn't want the fight it won't happen. I get the feeling Froch doesn't want to know.Horse wrote:Yes, there is. He can chase the Froch fight.david1963 wrote:I'm under the impression Froch is going to announce his intentions next week - retire or name his next opponent. There's nothing for Degale to chase right now.
He can talk to Hearn and the media about it. Try to hype it up and try to get it made.
Make himself seem like the most obvious and best choice for Froch's next fight.
Re: Who next for Degale?
I agree with davie, DeGale is a very good boxer and tough but if he slows down for 3 or 4 rounds with Froch he'll get mown down.

Que lots of bad mouthing and cheap shots, even the occasional push with a view to selling next year's PPV bout between the two.
"Groves, you're ugly. Ugleee. UGLEEEEE!"
I wonder if Degale has looked in the mirror recently?
To be fair to him, he was a total knob the last time he fought Groves, but I think his mental age is now that of someone in their late teens & not early teens, & he no longer seems as immature, so I don't think he'll be waffling about Groves being ugly next time around.

Froch doesn't need Degale.
He has nothing to prove & the way he's talking, his heart is not 100% in the sport anymore.
Froch needs a blockbuster finale, or he needs to walk away.
Re: Who next for Degale?
I enjoyed Froch's punditry the other night, he came across really well, he's intelligent an he seemed comfortable.
Re: Who next for Degale?
Pretty sure he was badly shaken up by Wilczewski around the 4th round of there close fight a few years ago although happy to be corrected if thats not the case. James struggled that night but has improved greatly since then clearlyRiddick Blowe wrote:Degale vs GGG would be interesting. Has Chunky ever been noticeably hurt in the pros? I can't think of a time, but I haven't seen all his fights. If he is as tough as he seems he might give G a good fight.
Re: Who next for Degale?
DeGale took a few good shots from Groves, he is a tough and competitive man.
Re: Who next for Degale?
Hearn will be stewing around thinking how he can turn DeGale into a cash cow that appeals to football fans so I expect something along the lines of what he's doing with Joshua now DeGale has a world title. Joshua is the next Tyson, DeGale they'll probably market as the British Mayweather while lining up some cannon fodder for him and put it on PPV.
Re: Who next for Degale?
I feel froch will only fight again if its in vegas...the venue is more important than the opponent. Froch would fight degale/golovkin/Adonis/ward....in vegas!!
Re: Who next for Degale?
yeah I agree. I think Froch could win OR lose versus Degale. If Degale faded in the middle like he did against Dirrell (or so I've read), then the ring with Froch is not a great place to be. However, Carl said in his book he had a hard time getting motivated to fight George Groves at first - and puts that down to getting battered about the ring by him in their first fight....so based on that, I'd say he'd struggle to get "up" for Jimmy D.Horse wrote:Maybe he's not, but it is still the fight DeGale should be chasing. It has a much higher risk to reward ratio than Groves II.david1963 wrote:I don't think Froch is interested.
Also I'd rather not see Groves have to rematch Degale, again. I could see the poor lad getting beat, possibly, which ain't nice against a mouthy rival who you have twice beaten! Still, if it pays........

Re: Who next for Degale?
Yes. Both are not particularly well conditioned to 12 rounds, but if it was Groves in with James on Saturday night landing some of the stuff Dirrell did through the middle rounds, I would fancy Groves to do far more damage. Groves is a very underrated 'boxer' and his jab can cause fighters like DeGale a very tough night.Finn wrote:Just out of interest does anyone see groves beating degale?
It'd honestly be a 'pick em' fight for me at the moment, but if Groves is conditioned to throw as much leather as he did against Rebrasse, and boxes, rather than fights, he wins for me.

Re: Who next for Degale?
For those who think degale will make massive money against froch, can you explain how this will happen?
Surely as froch is the main attraction, with the pedigree, status etc and also not needing the fight, surely he will be expecting at least 70% of the pot?
It's a bit like Khan against Mayweather. Khan might make more than usual against Mayweather but he'll have a figure put in front of him and he can take it or leave it.
Khan won't get near $10m from mayweather and degale won't get £2m from froch. They have nothing to bargain with and need mayweather/froch too much.
EDIT - Looking back on what i've written, the figures mentioned are big. However, i doubt either would be content to take the fights on the basis of receiving so (relatively) little.

I know this isn't the question you asked, but I would be very surprised if Floyd fought Khan.freddydoesdallas wrote:For those who think degale will make massive money against froch, can you explain how this will happen?

Re: Who next for Degale?
Groves stands much more of a chance with Adam Booth in the corner I don't think this current Groves can beat this current Degale and I even think he is losing out on a massive pay day by fighting B jack as I think its a dangerous fight.... Groves Vs Degale should just get it on for 1 Belt. I can easily see 50k people turning out plus PPV... Degale will be too clever for him this time if he keeps emotions out of the ringMarkMcBurney wrote:Yes. Re: Who next for Degale?
Maybe Groves is just his 'bogeyman'? They say there is always someone out there who has your number. Kinda like Vernon Forrest with Shane Mosely. I wouldn't class Forrest as being better than Shane but still managed to beat him twice and in the amateurs too I think? If Goves/DeGale fought again I would favour DeGale on current form but then again maybe DeGales style is just something that Groves is comfortable with?MarkMcBurney wrote:Yes. Re: Who next for Degale?
Perfect scenario for me would be for Chunky to beat his mandatory then take AA on (hopefully winning that also on PTS) then put his 2 belts up against Groves' WBC (Groves is capable of beating Jack no doubt) in a huge all British unification rematch. Could potentially be bigger than Brook Khan.

Just check out his record, he has beat some top top lads since he lost to Degale - the least he deserves is another World Title shot (preferably in Liverpool).
