Ring card girls have become somewhat of a tradition. Given the choice I'd have them rather than not.

Is anyone going to really not watch a particular broadcast just because there aren't card girls? Haymon will probably save money by not having to pay them.
x2, I find it a pretty dated concept, akin to page 3 girls.

My hope is that PBC's acceptance and growth will lead to the elimination of the major boxing sanctions and we can make some serious changes to the sport. THE FIRST place I would start would be changing the way boxing is scored because it's ridiculous. There has to be a better way.

Just to clarify,

Axing ring girls wont save a penny at all.

Because they are usually provided by a sponsor even on small shows, let alone the bigger ones which companies will be jumping at the chance for girls to wear their logo on tv etc ,...

Not to turn this into an MMA/UFC thread. But, Ronda Rousey recently made comments about the uselessness of ring card girls in the UFC and wondered publicly why they made more money than many of the fighters.

She had a point that they serve no purpose at all. After all, all arenas, stadiums, high school gyms have a scoreboard where you can post the round.

However, if a fighter only fights twice a year, and a ring card girl works twice a month, you can see that even with smaller paychecks, the RCGs will make more money than the average fighter

I don't really care how much they get paid, they're paid by sponsors.

The whole thing is tacky, cringeworthy even. Someone likened it to the girls in car magazines - I completely agree. Outdated rubbish.

I'm all for ring car girls. Particularly like Corona girls.

It's a shame that were now in the situation of losing traditional ringcard girls yet having women like CJ Ross and Julie Ledermen judge fights.

Saving money? That reminds me of something I read about a restaurant famous for it's great clam chowder. It was making a ridiculous amount of money but the new owners wanted to make even more money so they watered-down the chowder to save expense. After a while people stopped coming and it backfired.

CJ Ross was a joke of a judge, but Letterman's cards are usually good. I bet you don't agree with any judge 100% of the time. But I agree with you on ring card girls. Guys beating each other up and scantly clad young women are great things.

I don't really see what one has to do with the other. Julie Lederman is one of the best judges out there, anyway.

I can't believe how many people here dislike the round girls, at a live show the ring girls normally bring a little excitement between RDS and I can say 100% the girls seem to really enjoy it so everyone's happy as for the money I'm sure the security get paid more and usually they are over maned

One of the reasons girls were introduced was to demonstrate (by a contrast) how manly the fighters are. I understand that women fighters may not want to look manly in fans' eyes, so Ronda's objections to ring girls presence are reasonable.

They enjoy it because they're getting paid. The whole thing is a pretty embarrassing spectacle.

Isn't getting paid the reason why EVERYONE shows up for work? I am very offended by people who are offended by ring card girls.

The only people who would be embarrassed by it are unfit insecure women and their spouses.

What are you even responding to? Of course people work because they get paid. The claim I was responding to was that they "seem to really enjoy" it.

The whole thing screams "lowest common denominator". Totally cringeworthy.

Ring card girls, or ogling them are "The lowest common denominator. Totally cringeworthy."

You must be fun at parties.

This whole time I thought things like murder, rape, and sadism were "The lowest common denominator."

I don't think rape and murder are particularly "common".

While it skipped my mind that they are funded by sponsors, I'd be surprised if people stopped watching fights because they have no ring girls to look at. They're typically only apparent for a couple of seconds every few round to those watching on TV, and unlike the effect of no longer serving a 'great' dish at a restraunt where people presumably go for such gratification, it seems far-fetched to me that people who go to fights in person would stop doing so if the ring girls were axed.

I like ring girls but not when they are obscenely trashy. Corona girls are fine for me. Keep it civil and give girls a payday.

I'm not saying anyone would stop going to the fights, even though it sounded like I said just that. But a poster alluded to that Haymon may be trying to save a few dollars, so I meant it as a concept not an actuality. Some people are offended by ring card girls, I am VERY different from such people. I'll leave it at that.

Ring card girls aren't a tradition unless you're really young. When I was a kid it was just some dude holding the card up if they didn't have some kind of scoreboard. While I like women, I married one, I don't really see the point in some guy's half-naked daughter strutting her stuff around a ring holding a big cardboard over her head. The fights must be pretty boring if you notice the ring card girls are missing.
