No he intentionally wrote he believes.
It is a guess and nothing more.
Rule number 1 of journalism, don't give out your sources.

Middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, who had a fall megafight with Mexican superstar Alvarez already agreed to before he stepped into the ring Saturday night, scored two knockdowns and destroyed former unified middleweight titleholder Daniel Geale in the fourth round of a one-sided rout...
Cotto is being allowed to fight Alvarez in an optional defense, but Golovkin will receive a seven-figure step-aside payment and a signed agreement from Cotto and Alvarez promising to fight him next or the winner would be stripped of the title and it would go to Golovkin...
I don't think that article confirms that all sides are in agreement about the 7-figure step-aside payment and signed agreements from Cotto and Alvarez. I think that it just states that such things will need to happen in order for the fight to take place.

Notice how Floyd was the 154 champ until he just relinquished the title which he hasn't fought at 154 since Canelo in 2013

According to the WBC's own website, their "fighter of the month" still holds the welterweight and light middleweight titles.
And he hasn't defended the 154 title in about 20 months so if the name is big enough, WBC doesn't care. They didn't let Ward keep his titles.

According to boxrec, the WBC SWW/JMW title was on the line in the second Maidana fight ...

NO BUT REALLY DAN RAFEELLE IS BOXING WRITER, WHY HE SAY THING NOT TRUE!?
Yes we all know how journalistic integrity is such a common thing anymore

Seriously though, I'm not sure why he (the poster I was gently teasing there) got so hung up on that. Rafael speculates about stuff all he time. That's a nice way of saying he makes shiit up.

Seeing as cotto only weighed 153. Surely he and canelo can fight at 154. Cotto is my favorite fighter, and has been for a while but if he has no intention to fight Golovkin then he should vacate

Mexicn vs Puerto Rican is a big fight. This all might crash down if Floyd decides to rematch either guy. Personally don't need to see a rerun of either fight.
Since both fighters average 350,000 ppv's.How many ppv's do you or anyone really expect from this fight?
I honestly think anywhere between 800k and 1.2 mil. This fight is bigger than any fight not involving Floyd or Pac. Both are coming off big wins, even though they were hand picked.
