* Beaten by GGG........ Positives? Able to last 3rds, negatives? Quit
* Beaten by Cotto....... Positives? Able to last 4rds, negatives? Quit

* Weight issues - Weighed 159lbs against GGG, weighed 157lbs against Cotto............ 2 lbs lighter????????? Surely people are not using this as an excuse when Geale always looks a bit flabby around the belly fighting at 160lbs. In his last 10 fights before Cotto he never had a problem making 160lbs always came in under and was 158lb and some change for Sturm etc..... To say he weight drained to his limits is nothing more than fanciful.

It would be interesting to see how Mundine would fare if he had to step into the ring with either GGG or Cotto!

Interesting points Kel. :TU:

Yeah I had Sturm beating Geales myself.

Rumour had it that he came in around the 80kg mark against Cotto. Not saying it's fact because I'm not sure. Yes, went to Germany and won twice. Superb efforts on both occasions. Got dropped twice against GGG, just gave up. Got dropped twice against Cotto, just gave up. Heart the size of a tic tac. Realised he was up against it, and just gave up on both occasions. It's amazing how hypocritical boxing fans are in Australia. Anthony Mundine got knocked down FIVE times against Joshua Clottey. And got up FIVE times! He NEVER QUIT! Just kept giving it his all for not just himself, but his fans.

Now, just imagine if it were Mundine that just gave up like Geale has twice now?...
Clottey doesnt have the power Cotto and GGG have and when Clottey ever knockdown a good fighter let alone elite.

Not really, he would be beaten by GGG by stoppage and possibly may last the distance with Cotto although he would be beaten bit like the Clottey fight. What I do know is he'll either be KO'd, the towel thrown in or ref stoppage. I don't think Mundine would do a "No Mas"

Imagine the telegraph if he did

I definitely vote that Geale is no longer relevant in boxing. This match up with Soliman as an opponent being talked about; it would only be interesting to see if Geale gets up from Sam knocking him down, to shake his head at the referee again, and give another bout away.....
it is a very ripe time for him to hang up his gloves.....he should have a decent bank account, and should start another career.
i definitely see his technique and skill in boxing as being very predictable, and i think he might have even led himself to believe that the critical defence factors in boxing, (like protecting your head when you throw any punch) is not worthy of worrying about, or maybe he thinks he has outgrown it, in his rise......it is required in every bout, and at every level of boxing.....i feel that if he continues at even lower levels, that he will get put on his arsh continually, and get really hurt or wear a big patch on the back of his boxing dacks. Give it up.

He had the opportunity to fight Golovkin for the WBA regular title. He instead fought Carlos Aden Jerez. Make of that what you will.

Yes he does have a bout in the usa. I doubt he loses, but my understanding is he will still participate in an IBF eliminator regardless of that outcome.
Against Sergio Mora according to this article.

Sylvester was very relevant at the time. No one bagged Sylvester when Geale won. A wins a win SD or not !!
Sturm was an exceptional fighter in his prime and at the time Geale beat him, sturm was favoured., again so what if its close - he won.
Fought GGG & Cotto - Positive is he fought them both. Positive is he was prepared to fight them when many are not.
An elite athlete who has to drain himself to get down to 159/160, losing anothing 2 lb can be torture. Regardless what you weigh the following day many times the damage is already done. You strip away muscle mass to replace it with fluid - its not an excuse just what happens.

anyway, its a little off the topic. The topic was is Geale still relevant and is a fight with soliman likely/possible/attractive. To try and bag or discredit what Geale has acheived regardless of his recent performance is just stupidity.

As I said in the earlier post, regardless of the result of the Wade bout it was my understanding he was still getting an IBF eliminator which I believe was against Mora.

Geale has been willing to fight the best, so we know the outcome for him - Choc, unfortunately, we never will.

Kessler- "the Man" was dominated losing a wide UD

Ottke - KTFO by the feather-fist longtime title holder. Losing to Ottke wasn't a big deal, being rendered horizontal..........umm.... :shame:

Small sample size but enough to tell us where Anthony finishes when in the ring with elite level opponents.
He has some solid wins and a respectable career overall but never beat an elite level opponent.

imo it seems Anthony and Daniel were at about the same level, good enough to score some solid wins but fell short when in the ring with elite opponents.

I don't know what's going on with the Mundine/Trout situation but if that falls through Geale/Mundine III sounds like an interesting fight to me.

That much is true. Geale will never look back regretting not fighting the best. Mundine on the other hand used what could have been his prime years making easy money beating pedestrian opposition.

What does power have to do with it. Clottey had enough power to knock Mundine down 5 times, Mundine got up 5 times. Geale got knocked down twice in both fights, was standing on seemingly steady feet, and QUIT because he didn't have the heart to go on!

Like many Oz boxers these days Geale is OK just falls short on elite.

Even though it most likely wouldn't have made any difference to the results it would have been nice to see him at least try to go on instead of shaking his head.

Geale was fighting an Ok fight till his trainer asked him to put more punches together. From that point he lost confidence to do what was asked And got caught doing so

In regards to Geale being relevant, Geale is a happy family man & I think he wants to enjoy his life after boxing, I think he will preserve his health before committing to a beating

Of interest to both Geale and Soliman will be that Felix Sturm, whom they have both beaten, has just won the WBA 168 pound title.

This certainly won't have gone unnoticed by Geale who is looking to campaign at 168.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Geale vs Soliman match-up later in the year with the winner's eyes fixed in the direction of Sturm. We shall see.

Apparently the posters who seen this fight reckon it was a massive robbery and Sturm hinted at retirement after it. Geale- Soliman would be a good eliminator for the vacant strap with the winner fighting Chudinov or Murray(be a good tourney for the vacant belt). But neither Geale or Soliman would be ranked at SMW. Didn't stop Bika getting a shot at Stevenson though so here's hoping.

A typical reaction to the result >>>

"In a result that defied the match statistics and the opinion of many watching the bout....."

Not one judge had it for Sturm's Russian opponent Fedor Chudinov >>>

French judge Jean-Louis Legland had it 115-113 for Sturm

Italian judge Giuseppe Quartarone had it 115-113 for Sturm

Panamanian judge Ignacio Robles had it 114-114.

Majority decision to Sturm.

Sturm/Chudinov 2..............see for yourself.
Chudinov was stiffed hard by the judges.

It doesn't matter if Geale and Soliman are interested in Sturm, he will not be interested in bringing them back to Germany.
Felix is talking retirement and maybe Soliman and Geale should be considering the same.
