Buying isn't helping
IF this fight happens I'm not sure there will be money to make an undercard like the O2 show the other week.

Rios will cost loads to bring over.

To put into perspective his three last purses in GBP were £550,000 ( Alvarado) £594,000 (Chaves) £2,500,000 (Pacquaio)

Now for Rios to comeover to another country in his opponents home town you will be looking at £650,000 minimum. Then you have Brooks purse. Will he be paid less ? Don't know how much his highest purse is but doubt it is what Rios has made.

The point is with the purses of the main event I can't see an undercard being that good. Personally think Brook wins the fight easily and could stop him late.
They are big figures to justify for someone who isn't going to appeal to casual fans. Brook won't sell on his reputation alone so i think this should be a card that they accept a loss on to put brook over and cash in against a big name next time.

what do i know though, I'm not a millionaire and have never promoted a fight in my life (bar a couple on the school playing fields many moons back!)
Said it before Kell should fight him on HBO primetine and build a name for himself in the U.S. that's where the big fights are. Rios is made for him

Good post.....and it completely contradicts Hearn in reguards to why he picked Rios over Thurman. He said Thurman would cost way to much to bring over and the money simply isn't there. However Rios clearly has had,the bigger purses of the two so that makes no sense. Most real fans no the real reason is that brook vs Thurman would be a 50/50 fight while Rios is taylor made for brook.

i thought Thurman showed he had a very clever head on his shoulders, when he got booed in his fight with Guerrero. didn't put him off or start swing like a mad man, got the job done and won, we know he has ko power, and he has a strong mind

Kell Brook's had no real big wins.

Except for maybe Shaun Porter - (and who is he anyway?)

He lacks a personality and seems to have only got some stock from Eddie Hearns desperately trying to get Khan to fight him (When Khan is earning x10 more and on the cusp of facing Mayweather / Pac).

Brook isn't going to go anywhere unless he faces someone decent.

Would like him to face a Garcia, Bradley, Thurman, Maidana, Algieri. Not some one dimensional banger like Rios who's not beaten anyone.

Rios isn't even a banger at 147. Brook would massacre him.

I don't think Rios is a terrible fight for Brook, especially when you look at the other 2nd tier welters and see who they are fighting, but equally its not a PPV fight. I cancelled my sky sports subscription to free up some extra cash to be able to get the fights I wanted on PPV but to be honest I'm still at a point where I cant be bothered to pay the money out for fights of this standard anyway. I'm all for fighters getting well compensated and cashing in on their careers when they get the chance, but don't like the media manipulation and having people try to squeeze £20 out of me for none competitive fights. There would still be plenty of money to be made if they spent a bit more and brought over a better fighter for Kell rather than trying to spin Brandon Rios and Frankie Gavin as PPV opponents.

After beating Porter, Brook specifically called out Thurman and I though 'wow fair play'.

Then after the Jo Jo Dan fight (when Eddie has presumably had a word in his ear) he said something like 'bring on any of the top guys in the division, Rios, Marquez...'

I understand the whole risk/reward element but personally I've always disliked matches where a shopworn, usually undersized, 'name' fighter is brought over for the latest UK-based champion.

Rios is a decent defence for Brook before it's not PPV on its own IMO.

I'd love to see Brook fight Thurman, the winner would make a big name for themselves too.

I think Rios is a great opponent for Brook. He's well known in the US, exciting, and will make for good press.

not sure khan is earning even twice as much as brook. Khan earns when he is the 'b' side.

apart from that, i agree with you

What are the figures? Ive not seen anyone confirm anything and even if the brook figure of £400k is true, khan is not getting £1.2m for algieri, maybe! ! $1.2m at a push

Khan got 1.5million dollars, and off the top of my head 900k for the Devon Alexander fight.

Which, if true, in sterling works out less than 3x the rumoured figure for Brook.

I'm sure they are all inflated anyway. Khan was on an obscure channel in his main market

Brook was reportedly on £225k

Believable really when he was only fighting Gavin

So Porter and Rios are nobody's but Algieri is credible?

Rios is coming off a great win against Alvarado and Porter has wins against Alexander and Malinaggi on his record. Stick on Sky and watch Porter this weekend if you get an hour away from the asylum.

Amir Khan has been offered £5 Million to fight Brook.
Mayweather payed Maidana $1.5million in there first fight when he was fresh off a win against Broner.

Aug 29th Sheffield or Sept 12th London for this apparently nearly signed according to Rios team and the dreaded word PPV was even
mentioned in the interview they gave.

Don't know if any truth in it but it is beginning to sound likely.

When i phoned sky to cancel my whole subscription they told me its nothing to do with them how the ppv works its down to the boxing promotor, eddie hearn is a greedy bastard brought up with a silver spoon up his arse and handed matchroom by his dad,if he didnt have skys millions he would be fornicate all and wouldnt have a quarter of the stable he has now, sits ther telling us what is ppv and what isnt ppv? Weve all watched boxing for years and know boxing inside out so why does he talk like us fans are new to the sport, treatin us like idiots.

But makes a mockery of the PPV when you consider Brook was the big A side of the (one sided) headline bout of a PPV card
