The real question should be could Joshua get thru Stiverne to become a mandatory once Povetkin gets his shot.

I think Joshua would pound Stiverne, though he would be AJ's most dangerous opponent. Several other HWs beat Stiverne too in my view.

Do you still think that the only reason some people are picking Povetkin over Wilder is dislike for Al Haymon?

Everyone here can speculate based on what they have seen but I would rather listen to a guy who's sparred them both and is THE heavyweight champion of the world and he says Joshua will be the next dominant heavyweight champion of the world.

It's seems very obvious having watched both fight that Joshua would easily beat Wilder.

Joshua is a level or two above Wilder, who is very lucky to have a world title belt considering his lack of athleticism and boxing skills. Wilder is tall with a very long wingspan of 84" and is a hard puncher, but otherwise he's rather limited.

I think AJ would win right now. Wilder is a Little better athlete with better handspeed and might have more raw one Punch power but Joshua is physically stronger, technically more solid and generally much more calm and composed in the ring (much less wild and more accurate). he also seems to have a stronger chin, although we don't know yet.

A level or 2 above? Lack of athleticism? Your hate for Wilder has obviously clouded your judgement. Athleticism is probably one of his best attributes, and is much more athletic than the majority of heavys.

No one is saying he is the best in the world. At this point he is more proven than Joshua, which isn't saying much....but is worth saying.

The longer the fight goes, the better it suits Wilder. AJ by early stoppage or Wilder on points. Wilder is much faster of foot and that would show.

After Molina gave Wilder everything he could handle Saturday Night, I would say that ANY legitimate heavyweight will give him trouble. Wilder has the tools to be a very good or even great if i dare to say but he's soft. He's a sucker for a left hook and he retreats with his hands down and his chin high. He's the definition of a knockout waiting to happen. It's amazing that no one in his camp can see that when he backs up, he's vulnerable. When he's moving forward or standing his ground, he's nasty.

Wilder's been boxing a long time and unless he hooks up with a Garcia, Roach or Hunter, he's just going to be another ship in the night.

It's a true 50/50 fight.

I think if they fought 10 times they'd each have 4 wins between them at least.

Joshua is more skilled. Wilder is more aggressive, and has more of a killer instinct.

I feel like Joshua would have the edge in the more cautious, feel out type rounds, but Wilder with his wild attack wouldn't be content to just go along like that for long. One way or another, he'd make something happen. Even if it meant doing something stupid and getting his own self knocked out. He goes for it...you gotta give him that.

There's still a lot of questions about him. Can he take a punch? Wilder cracking him could cause him to very quickly turn from the next Lennox Lewis to the next Frank Bruno. Can he handle the pressure of a long hard fight?
Great points. :TU:

I don't know if you noticed, but Joshua already rose from a knockdown to win a long, hard fight.

Now granted Wilder has more of a killer instinct than Wlad, and would press the advantage should he hurt or knock down AJ more than Wlad did, but some of these questions that you have about AJ have already been answered.

I don't know if you noticed, but someone has bumped my post from THREE years ago. At which point AJ was only 13-0 having just beaten Kevin Johnson.

At the time all the points were valid, but thanks for playing!!

Starting a discussion where you know the answer well over 2 years beforehand, congratz gilgamesh, you won! That's he first discussion you ever won right?
I generally don't pay attention to the date on the posts, and my apologies to moogie. Those critiques were indeed valid at the time.

Amazing that three years later and Wilder vs. AJ hasn't happened

Never was 50-50. Wilder gets stopped. Not sure what people saw in WIlder against Ortiz. Old man Ortiz was outboxing Wilder until he got stopped. By the way, surprised that people thought of Stiverne so highly. Look at his name now. Guy is barely a footnote in the division.

Hell, someone like Breazeale who probably wouldn't be looked upon as favorably back then is now somewhat of a contender.
