He either wants to jump in and decides against it, as in this fight(possibly through fear of looking incompetent), or he jumps in too early and instead of letting the fight continue, waves his arms in the air to stop him looking like a man panicking(which proves the opposite to me). Very erratic behaviour from him.

If you are the ref, you have to be firm, no matter if you are going to take a blow to protect one of the fighters.

Boxers need protecting but they also need time to do their job. IJL lets the boxers down time and time again.

He shouldn't be on the front line for me. Too many mistakes when the pressure is on. Erratic behaviour will eventually get someone hurt.

Whoever licences refs needs to take a long look at IJL now and ask whether he should be refereeing anymore, far too many mistakes and last night could have been worse than it ended up

Just too many errors in too many fights. Maybe it's the presence of the tv cameras but he is visibly hesitant and seems to have no confidence in his own ability to make a decision. Watch this fight, then the Jones-Rose one from earlier this year to see exactly what I mean.

What really isn't helping is that sky/matchroom are prepared to sweep it all under the carpet to enhance the reputation of their fighter.

In their report, they make a quick reference to controversy by saying that vera was expecting a count before the left hook but nothing else.

Imagine the fuss they'd make if it was the other way round i.e Brian Rose

He did something like this in an Anthony Joshua fight. He was about to end it, stepped in, and then let it continue. He is a terrible ref.

Worst ref currently in British boxing. Embarassing man.

Exactly. He makes me feel nervous watching so some boxers must feel the same.

It's not just that he makes mistakes, it's that he doesn't look confident in his own decisions.

Howard Foster of course made a wrong call but looked assured as he was doing it and stood by it. I don't expect mistakes before the fight even starts with Foster like I do with IJL.

Awful judge too. Time to try something else.

He was an accomplice to ABH Friday night, he should lock himself up, literally!

Quite surprised the review of last weeks fight in Boxing News made no real mention of Lewis' balls up.

for god sake BBB of C grow some balls and suspend the man, we are playing with peoples lives here, there is no time nor space for his panicking and changes of mind mid flow. someone will get seriously hurt.

BBB of C... you owe it to the fighters, the public and IJL himself. Give him a 6 month break, then see where we go from there....please.

He should be self excluding himself.

Being an ex fighter he knows the indecisive manner he approaches these fights with is playing with fire.

Fighters should refuse to have him as the ref for their fights. He is a terrible official and needs to be demoted a level at least.

Just noticed on the Board website that he's been fined and monitored.

Question from a twig-like chump who has never stepped between the ropes for fear of a nosebleed before the introductions -

Is it possible boxers fight differently when IJL/others of questionable judgement is in charge?

Would the 'home' fighter aim to throw a flurry with the opponent on the ropes, knowing they may well step in regardless of how many shots landed?

Like I say, I'm no fighter, so humour me. I went to a weight training class and they started me on balloons.

I wonder if IJL will be on the BN card this Saturday night??
