So? Froch fought Robin Reid and Glen Johnson years out of their prime, shit happens. You've been watching boxing long enough to know the risk vs reward in a fight like that. People forget Calzaghe was 36 and had recurring hand injuries for years, he got to cash out, is it that big of a deal? He had just cleaned out 168 and beat the number 1 light heavy weight In the world at the time.

Well he said he would have fought Jones in his prime if he got paid right, higher risk demands a higher reward.

Exactly, In the quote he doesn't rule out the fight just says he wants to be paid handsomely for it.

Because he got $10m, who the fornicate wouldn't take an easy fight for that sort of money?

He didn't actually say he wouldn't fight him, just that he would have wanted big money for the fight. I don't see what's wrong with that when it meant moving up in weight and going on the road to fight a top 3 P4P fighter.

Calzaghe had no interest in facing Jones when he thought he might well lose, Calzaghe was basically saying there wasn't a pot of money big enough to tempt him over to fight Jones in his prime - that's clearly the intention of that statement.

Calzaghe wrote in his own autobiography that he wouldn't face Jones Jr because he was shot. That makes him a hypocrite.

Well, he shouldn't have made a big point of claiming to be so honourable in the first place - that is what jars. Don't try and make out like you're a man of principle, if you're going to sell out when someone waves a big cheque. Had he not said that in the first place, it wouldn't rankle.

It doesn't rankle for me, I just assume he didn't expect the interest to be able to generate the actual sums that were paid when they eventually did fight. I also don't think you can call a man who literally fights people for money a sell out for fighting a man for money, that's kind of his job. He'd be an idiot to fight say Chad Dawson at the time for less money, or Carl Froch.

Calzaghe wanted to fight Jones way before it actually happened. I remember him banging on about it all the time. He wanted Hopkins and all, maybe Joe just wasn't big enough to interest them at that time. He wanted it though.

He never once made any attempts to get a fight with Jones.

Hopkins on the other hand is another matter, there was a fight in the works and Bernard suddenly demanded double the money for the fight.

And subsequently he said he wouldn't go to 175. I'll find the interview and quotes if you like but I'm sure you know he said it.

I would've loved to see how Froch performed at 175 against the likes of Stevenson (once his mandatory) and Kovalev.

with all due respect Bernard Hopkins wasn't the killer these two are now when Joe fought him

Calzaghe would have pummelled Froch into submission very late on, or be a massive points winner, with Froch taking a beating! Calzaghe way to fast and massive work rate would have crumbled Froch if they ever met. If Froch did have any chance I think he would have to do it early, catching Calzaghe sleeping but even then this would have just made things worse for Froch!
Froch is a slow starter as well, so this probably wouldn't have happened.
