Potentially a good match up this one between WBA #1 Shumenov and WBA #3 Flores for the interim WBA title. Neither has ever been stopped. Shumenov has proven himself to be a world class fighter having been WBA world light heavyweight champion for about 4 years.

Interesting to see how Shumenov goes at CW and how Flores does against someone that can fight. Shumenov stoppage or wide UD.

In his first outing at cruiserweight Shumenov blew away Bobby Thomas Jnr. inside 5 rounds. He is 6th 2, packs a whack and shouldn't have any problem with the transition to cruiserweight. No stranger to world title fights either having contested 8.

Flores has fought people who can fight before. Including Danny Green. Never been stopped and only lost once.

Danny Green and Beibut Shumenov share the common opponents Danny Santiago (whom they both stopped) and Tamas Kovacs (whom Shumenov stopped and Green fights next).

Shumenov is a warrior. Animated, very vocal and bloody entertaining. His best weapon is his right, and he put Kovacs away with it. But he launched an explosive two handed blitz on Santiago and just blew him away.

Flores will know he's been in a fight with Shumenov and if he gets past him he will have announced himself as a very serious contender.

Flores is 36 now. So it's probably a case for him of now or never.

I don't think Flores will become a 'very serious' CW contender by beating a LHW paper titlist who only held the belt because he got a complete gift (named 'Robbery of the Year' by Boxing Scene and The Ring). Then of course Shumenov was embarrassed by Hopkins, who while still good hasn't floored anyone else in 9 years, had a significantly tougher time with limited Karo Murat a fight before, and was thrashed by Kovalev a fight after.

Shumenov was a decent LHW who fought all of his major bouts at that weight; he's not someone who at this points legitimizes people as 'very serious' CW contenders.

Kovalev thrashes everyone. Much the same as GGG does, and Hopkins has been embarrassing opponents for decades. Kovalev and Hopkins are amongst the truly elite and Hopkins hasn't lost it all yet despite his advanced years.

Beibut Shumenov is one of those guys who makes boxing great to watch and I'm really looking forward to seeing the contrast in styles in this one. The winner takes home the interim WBA belt and moves a step closer to much bigger things.

It shows that Shumenov is nowhere near top level though, along with the facts that he needed a huge gift to beat Campillo (who already beat him in Kazakhstan) and did even worse against Hopkins than most of the latter's recent opponents had despite the once again highly generous cards.

Given this and his lack of even one win over a good cruiserweight, I don't think that Flores will become a very serious contender by beating him.

Flores failed to make weight. Came in at 200.8 and 0.8 pound heavy.

I believe he is now attempting to lose it. Hopefully that won't prove too difficult or obviously only Shumenov, who did make weight, will be eligible to win the interim title.

Flores won't beat him his record is heavily padded. Green is the only decent fighter he has fought and Green nearly shut him out at a weight not good for him.

 Unproffesional. He made 195 against Green must not be much money in this.

Where did you pluck the word unprofessional from?

Are you aware that in Flores' very next fight after Green he came in at 198.5 pounds and that 3 fights later he came in at 198 pounds?

Flores clearly can, and by choice has, fought well below 200 pounds before. Or do you think opponents Iannuzzi and McNemar paid him inducement money to come in low?

Your assessment is spot on(except Hopkins dropped Zaggers and made milkdud touch the canvas briefly). But he should easily account for Flores. I guess we will see tomorrow.

He hasn't made weight his last 3 fights(since October 2012). But he made it in the end I suppose all good. :TU:

Flores came in a smidgen under the full cruiser limit at his own choice and green beat him comfortably. At the time and still currently flores is and was a contender.
And dont try give me no he made him weight drain crap because anyone who weighs north of 90kgs walk around weight can do a poo that weighs as much as 1.5kgs and it is a very small percentage of body weight.

Legit cruiser contender. Top 10 at the time beaten by green.
Hello Nina nice to see you defending your husband. And the Briggs KO was legit punch to the soft part of the skull too. :DD
the briggs fight was a shambles . The writing was on the wall when they had to move the fight to wa. I was at the fight and i felt ripped of. Did you pay to watch the fight? Probably not . You probably spent more time being a keyboard warrior.

FACT the flores fight was a legit fight between two highly ranked cruisers. The fact that green has fought well under the cruiser limit and at catchweights does nothing to discredit this scrap. Flores dropped next to nothing to make the weight and did so for extra monetary incentive offered by green. His choice.

FACT green got demolished by tarver who was found to be juicing in his very next fight.

FACT green was dominating wlod on the cards for the WBC title and had wlod hurt badly in the 5th round before gasing and getting stopped in the 11th round.

not bad for a bloke who is barely a cruiser weight.

I Have no idea why you and a handful of others have such a problem with green and why you go so far out of your way to discredit him. He is far from exceptional sure ill give you that but he always comes to fight and he always puts on a cracking undercard. He brings big names to our shores that we would likely never see otherwise and risks his house and assets to do it. Sure his opposition isn't fantastic every single fight but whose is?
If you dont like him then dont pay for his fights and stay away from threads related to him.

Scottearley 123456. I will take Robbie Pedens word over yours or Danny Green's champ. If you are going to get upset because someone doesn't like a boxer you do I suggest you grow a thicker skin or don't post on boxing forums or put me on your foe list so you can't see my posts. :TU:

Your arguments are flimsy at best and full of hate for no reason.

Give credit where credit is due . Green is far from brilliant but he is decent and has bought a lot of life into the sport in oz. He is entertaining to watch and ALWAYS forks out to put really good cards on. You have likely never met the bloke and hate him anyway

I don't really mind who wins. But I like what guys like Shumenov bring. Something out of the ordinary.
