Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appeal
Well all the the shit heads who commit crime in the UK would get away with it as soon as they left the country.
Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appeal
There has to be cooperation between nation states and other countries - to buy and sell things, to go on holiday, to work etc. In the spirit of cooperation if someone does something bad in our country and then legs it abroad to avoid punishment then that country's police (or Interpol) arrest them and send them back so they can have their day in court. That's the bones of it though a decent explanation as to why there shouldn't be cooperation would be enlightenening.Horse wrote:I didn't know that most people had an opinion on this subject. So, can you explain why I'm wrong or not? This is getting rather tiresome.

Each case should be dealt with individually based on merit.palooka wrote:There has to be cooperation between nation states and other countries - to buy and sell things, to go on holiday, to work etc. In the spirit of cooperation if someone does something bad in our country and then legs it abroad to avoid punishment then that country's police (or Interpol) arrest them and send them back so they can have their day in court. British citizens shouldn't be getting deported regardless though. They should be punished here if they need to be punished.

We should fly witnesses over and have trials over here for the crimes done in another country?Horse wrote:Each case should be dealt with individually based on merit.palooka wrote:There has to be cooperation between nation states and other countries - to buy and sell things, to go on holiday, to work etc. In the spirit of cooperation if someone does something bad in our country and then legs it abroad to avoid punishment then that country's police (or Interpol) arrest them and send them back so they can have their day in court. Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appeal
No, the Home Office would just have to consider the trial and sentence fair and they can be punished over here.palooka wrote:We should fly witnesses over and have trials over here for the crimes done in another country?
Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appeal
That would work really well. So when we convict someone, then they fornicate off abroad, they get off because we can't extradite them back here to serve their sentence. The entire justice system would be a complete mess if people knew that if they went abroad they wouldn't be punished.Horse wrote:Each case should be dealt with individually based on merit.palooka wrote:There has to be cooperation between nation states and other countries - to buy and sell things, to go on holiday, to work etc. In the spirit of cooperation if someone does something bad in our country and then legs it abroad to avoid punishment then that country's police (or Interpol) arrest them and send them back so they can have their day in court. Yeah I know that but he's still a drain on resources sticking him in one of their HMPs or prisons whatever there called over there. I would rather just ban the pudendum from ever coming back to Spain.Boxerbeetle wrote:It's not like he'll be handing out flyers in Ibiza, they're slinging him in prison.Manchester Hitman wrote:I Could never understand why the spaniards are so desperate to have Harrison back on there turf- I would have thought they would be sick of the sight of him
Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appeal
How could they have a trial iif the defendant legged it back over here? Your thinking seems muddled on this issue.Horse wrote:No, the Home Office would just have to consider the trial and sentence fair and they can be punished over here.palooka wrote:We should fly witnesses over and have trials over here for the crimes done in another country?

How would they manage to get abroad after they'd been convicted?expe wrote:That would work really well. If every scumbag we convicted scarpered and never came back then that wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen anyway.

Yeah or if we ended up with all the shite from the rest of the world with no way to get shut.Horse wrote:How would they manage to get abroad after they'd been convicted?expe wrote:That would work really well. Extradite them or lock them up.palooka wrote:Yeah or if we ended up with all the shite from the rest of the world with no way to get shut.
Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appeal
How would any other country accept them back iif we weren't playing ball?Horse wrote:Extradite them or lock them up.palooka wrote:Yeah or if we ended up with all the shite from the rest of the world with no way to get shut.
Why should we pay for people to be locked up when they've done their crime abroad?
Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appea
So...
1. British criminals can just evade trial by fleeing abroad
2. Foreign criminals can evade trial by fleeing to Britain unless and until they get caught doing something here
I see you've thought this out Horse

If they are their citizens can they refuse to accept them if we kick them out?palooka wrote:How would any other country accept them back iif we weren't playing ball?
We can just dump them in the sea if they don't want them.
Because they are our citizens and they should be looked after.palooka wrote:Why should we pay for people to be locked up when they've done their crime abroad?
Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appea
We can ask for them back, then country they have fled to can decide whether they want to give them back or not.dookus wrote:So...

No, it's my opinion.palooka wrote:Horse has normally got a thought provoking view but on here has just been contrary for the sake of it.
Why are you acting like extradition treaties are sacred cows that most people are in love with? Since when have they been so popular?
Re: Scott Harrison loses extradition appea
They'd be popular with you if someone had done something to one of your family and run off abroad out of the way.Horse wrote:No, it's my opinion.palooka wrote:Horse has normally got a thought provoking view but on here has just been contrary for the sake of it.
