I didn't know that most people had an opinion on this subject. I didn't think I was being particularly rebellious.

So, can you explain why I'm wrong or not? This is getting rather tiresome.
There has to be cooperation between nation states and other countries - to buy and sell things, to go on holiday, to work etc. In the spirit of cooperation if someone does something bad in our country and then legs it abroad to avoid punishment then that country's police (or Interpol) arrest them and send them back so they can have their day in court. That's the bones of it though a decent explanation as to why there shouldn't be cooperation would be enlightenening.

Each case should be dealt with individually based on merit.

British citizens shouldn't be getting deported regardless though. They should be punished here if they need to be punished.

We should fly witnesses over and have trials over here for the crimes done in another country?

No, the Home Office would just have to consider the trial and sentence fair and they can be punished over here.

That would work really well. So when we convict someone, then they fornicate off abroad, they get off because we can't extradite them back here to serve their sentence. The entire justice system would be a complete mess if people knew that if they went abroad they wouldn't be punished.

Yeah I know that but he's still a drain on resources sticking him in one of their HMPs or prisons whatever there called over there. I would rather just ban the pudendum from ever coming back to Spain.

How could they have a trial iif the defendant legged it back over here? Your thinking seems muddled on this issue.

How would they manage to get abroad after they'd been convicted?

If every scumbag we convicted scarpered and never came back then that wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen anyway.

How would any other country accept them back iif we weren't playing ball?

Why should we pay for people to be locked up when they've done their crime abroad?

So...

1. British criminals can just evade trial by fleeing abroad
2. Foreign criminals can evade trial by fleeing to Britain unless and until they get caught doing something here

I see you've thought this out Horse

If they are their citizens can they refuse to accept them if we kick them out?

We can just dump them in the sea if they don't want them.
palooka wrote:Why should we pay for people to be locked up when they've done their crime abroad?
Because they are our citizens and they should be looked after.

We can ask for them back, then country they have fled to can decide whether they want to give them back or not.

No, the foreign nation can ask for them and then we can decide if we want to give them back or not.

No, it's my opinion.

Why are you acting like extradition treaties are sacred cows that most people are in love with? Since when have they been so popular?

They'd be popular with you if someone had done something to one of your family and run off abroad out of the way.
