ITV boxing coverage
Re: ITV boxing coverage
ITV dropped a spoiler - I'm pretty sure Sky pundits were told to counteract instantly with the same
Re: ITV boxing coverage
Well, pre-fight I assumed that both TV channels would give the result of the others out. That's what always happens in boxing, and it didn't occur to me that they wouldn't do this.Horse wrote:Why on Earth would you assume that?ILikeBeer wrote:Did they? I assumed because you moaned at ITV for doing it, that meant Sky didn't.
I don't have Sky Sports any more, and didn't watch it. So when people on here were acting like ITV giving away the result was something worthy of criticism, I thought they were suggesting it was something that didn't happen on Sky Sports any more, that's all. Why would they be having a pop at ITV at doing this, if Sky Sports had also done it?
Just a misunderstanding of what people on this forum were saying.
Re: ITV boxing coverage
I thought that the coverage and the studio sections were quite decent. Lets hope they have more. Agree re spoilers, it doesn;t so much hurt the other channel as ruin the viewers enjoyment of the evening. Twatty behaviour.
Talking of boxing coverage, my other half was watching the Price fight with me the night before, watching Bunce and Lillis (who I think are both great) and she said "What's this, the illegal boxing channel?"

I was pleased with the coverage, like people have said if you want boxing on terrestrial tv you're going to have to have adverts. Even on Sky which I pay subscription for theres adverts between most rounds.

Re: ITV boxing coverage
Yeah I do realise ITV show adverts !
But in the past, in their heyday, they would skip ads after a dramatic round that warranted replays, so I'm just reminding them of this, as they probably read this board.
And by the same token, they shouldn't be allowed to get away with the low down twatish behaviour of spoiling the results for the fans without us criticising it.
I didn't realise sky did the same on Sat night, at the time, though no surprise, as I was watching ITV and always fast forward through their talkinghead cheerleaders Froch, Nelson, Smith etc.
Glynn always used to pull them up about it in his boxing monthly column, and long may it continue until they get it into their heads it's unacceptable .....Graham et al

That's not very far from Birmingham, in the grand scheme of things. I've met people from Telford with a lot heavier Birmingham accent that Woodhall.ste1983 wrote:Richie's from Telfordrossij8 wrote:Never been a fan of the Brum accent, but Richie Woodhall is top notch so his knowledge over powers it - big fan!
Re: ITV boxing coverage
I must say I'm not understanding the complaints.
ITV is getting criticism for having adverts and giving away the Sky result.
Sky has adverts and gave away the ITV result. How is it different?

No way I ain't having that I'm from Wolverhampton which is in between both and we don't speak like Brummies, and people from Telford don't speak like us.ILikeBeer wrote:That's not very far from Birmingham, in the grand scheme of things. Re: ITV boxing coverage
Fair enough. I did meet one bloke from Telford that had a very strong Brummie accent. But I didn't know him that well. Maybe his parents were from Birmingham or whatever, and he kept their accent.
If it makes you feel better, a lot of my family are from closer to Birmingham than he was, and didn't have an accent as strongly as he did.

Saying all that, it's always been a bit of a pet peeve of mine, snobbery about accents.
A person's accent is part of who they are, and where they are from. People should be proud of their accents, it's part of who they are. Their heritage almost. Not a reason to chastise somebody.

Re: ITV boxing coverage
Yeah to be fair Telford is a 'new town' it has a lot of people moved there from Birmingham in the last 20 years or so. Chances are he was probably a Brummie or from a Brummie family. The Telford accent itself is a weird on bit of a mash up of Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire and strangely a bit scouse.ILikeBeer wrote:Fair enough. Even if they did usually do it people would still complain anyway, because it is a very inconsiderate and insulting thing to do.
Dodgy decisions happen all of the time, but that doesn't stop people complaining about it.
Re: ITV boxing coverage
Being From Telford this has made me smile.
We do have a Strange accent admittedly and when abroad I have been told I have a Brummy Accent, Scouse Accent and Welsh accent depending on what part of the country the person I am speaking to is from.
That said - when I hear Richie speak I don't pick up any accent but that's probably me hearing a fellow Telford 'accent' and I find Richie quite easy going to listen to when commentating

I went there to watch snooker when it was at the TIC. There's a motorway through it, and a lot of hotels for reasonable prices. They assume the only reason anybody would stay there is if they are staying overnight for a long drive.
Re: ITV boxing coverage
I'd agree with that definitely doesn't sound like Telford accent I know....he doesn't say 'jockey' enough for onejam100 wrote:Being From Telford this has made me smile.

Don't worry - people who live in Telford aren't easily offended by comments about the place, its become a way of life for most of us and we are usually the first to give it an stick it may deserve

Re: ITV boxing coverage
As far as I'm aware, it's only allegedly that don't give out the results of other fights that are being aired on different channels at the same time. Steve Bunce usually stresses that at the beginning of their broadcasts to be fair to them.
As for Jamie Moore giving away that Frampton had been down twice in the 1st round, I'm not really sure how that benefited Sky because I'm sure I wasn't the only one who turned straight to ITV within seconds of the words leaving his mouth.

Re: ITV boxing coverage
Don't mind ITV showing adverts. They need this revenue to get the fights.
Sky showing adverts between rounds annoys me more than anything. I pay £100 a month so they can save there adverts for between fights.
Also hate how they apologise for swearing. It's great to hear the corners.
I enjoyed how BN laughed at Arnie Farnell dropping the C bomb constantly at 7.30.

Yeah, I went and started watching that fight before pausing it when the Crolla fight started.GooalaShooola wrote:As for Jamie Moore giving away that Frampton had been down twice in the 1st round, I'm not really sure how that benefited Sky because I'm sure I wasn't the only one who turned straight to ITV within seconds of the words leaving his mouth.
It reminds me of the incident were WCW spoiled the result of a WWF show and lost hundreds of thousands of viewers when people switched over to watch that instead.
Trying to hurt the opposition more than trying to help themselves. It's bloody pathetic.
Re: ITV boxing coverage
Like Woodhall a great deal who has also been consistently excellent on 5 Live ...the last outpost of pro boxing coverage on the BBC....and he calls a fight without pictures equally as well also. Strikes a nice balance between the technical stuff and history for the fan and helping the general sports watcher/listener understand what the hell is going on out there.
West Midlands accents still leave me flummoxed....was at Uni outside Coventry for four years....and there was absolutely everything on offer from Brummie, bits of rural Warwickshire, all sorts of Irish brogues, some Jamaican and the original Cov accent. Bewildering but also fascinating and unique.
