Good get. Lucas has since confirmed on social media.

Julius Long is 18-16-0, has lost 10 of his last 11 fights and been stopped 6 times.

Lucas Browne Will Now Face Long, Larenas is Out

LUCAS "BIG DADDY" BROWNE will now face giant American Julius "Towering Inferno" Long next Friday night (August 14) due to Icho Larenas pulling out as a result of legal problems.

Larenas was himself a replacement for Gonzalo Basile, but Hatton Promotions' international matchmaker Philippe Fondu received word late on Thursday that it was unlikely that the Canadian former MMA star would be allowed to leave Argentina, where he is now based.

After working through the night, Fondu, Browne's manager Matt Clark, and agent Juan Pablo Manfredi, managed to secure a deal with 7ft 1in Long, who is a very experienced pro and has fought a who's who of the heavyweight division.

The fight will be a ten round non-title contest and is being televised live free to air across Australia on Channel 9.

Browne said: "It's part of boxing and again, I'm used to it. I just worry about my performance and I'm happy my team has again secured an opponent. I can't wait to put on a show.

"Much respect to Julius for taking the fight at such short notice, that's the sign of a warrior. He's a big man so it'll be like I'm preparing for Wilder or Fury!"

Matt Clark added: "A huge thanks to Julius for taking the fight. He is a huge man who is very, very durable. He's been a pleasure to deal with and he always puts up a great show.

"Replacing fighters at short notice is the hardest thing about boxing and the past 48 hours have been a nightmare. Thankfully the show is going on!

"A massive thanks to Ricky Hatton for his continued support and to Brian Amatruda for placing the fight on live television here in Australia."

Long will be a good test for Browne's punching power. Browne will outwork him and probably batter him along the way but it will be interesting to see whether he can KO him.

Corner job ain't IKEA where I could remove 2 shelves above it
I'm 6'2" Whilst I'd be safe at 7'1" in lounge/dining/kitchen open area, I'd most likely KO myself venturing to bathroom/dunny, laundry & bedroom during & beyond "Happy Hour"

Getting a fighter in 5 days notice is pretty impressive. Good on Julius for stepping up

"South American boxer pulls out due to Cocaine charges" - what a classic stereotype.

Lucas has been keen to fight for a while now (9 months since Chauncy), but maybe Hatton and his team think Lucas is slow and limited, and are terrified of matching him against anyone who can punch.
They're holding out for the "Regular" title shot.

Imagine if you got the "Regular" title in your job.
"Hey - I wasn't the best builder in our company, but I'm the "Regular" guy"
"Yeah - some other guy is way better than me, but they let me have this "Regular" thing"

Even then, they're going into this Chagaev shot horribly underprepared

Oquendo thought enough of the regular title he was prepared to fight tooth and nail both in court and out to get a rematch with Chaegev.

He's a 42 year old fighter with 8 losses - what other choice does he have?

The belt Browne will contest was seen as worthwhile enough for Chaegev, Povetkin, Haye and Valuev to sweat and bleed for.

Yes Wlad holds the super belt above it. But there are plenty of heavyweights around the world who wouldn't mind the WBA regular belt around their waste, just like Browne wants it.

Do you know how many Australians have won heavyweight title belts?

It's not a real heavyweight title, it's a B-prize. Yes it is a great achievement and you can only fight within the systems that have been created by the organisations, but the WBA having two champions is ridiculous.

None of us who follow the sport seriously think for a minute Browne beating Chaegev would make him THE world champion and I would prefer we had never, ever heard of super champion belts.

But boxing is what it is, and second tier belts are what they are, and if Browne happens to win one it will be arguably the greatest accomplishment by an Australian heavyweight ever.

Would you say winning the regular title is a greater achievement than fighting for the real heavyweight world title as Leapai has just done?

Or even winning the historically credible Commonwealth title as Lucas has recently done?

If Browne beats Chaegev and wins the WBA belt, yes I would rate it ahead of Leapai fighting for the World title. Sadly, Leapai was totally humiliated by Wlad which took a lot of the gloss off him earning his title shot.

I would also rate a win by Browne over the 34-2-1 Chaegev for the WBA belt ahead of beating the 10-3 Bahoeli for the Commonwealth title.

It is still all a bit hypothetical at the moment because Browne needs to get past Long first - Chaegev has to get Oquendo out of the way - and then have Hatton & Co need to finally stitch up the Chaegev fight.

Chagaev was perhaps - after Klitschko, Haye and maybe Ibragimov - the best rated fighter in the 2000s.

Bahoeli, on the other hand, got knocked out by a 6-2 bloke in his next fight and is 11-5.

I am pretty sure which one would be the better scalp. And I don't think Big Daddy has much of a chance against him, even the 2015 version of the Uzbek.

That's all we'll see in Sydney with the fight show programmed to commence at 10pm on Nine with GEM showing movies.

Maybe a couple of live fights and some replays and full saturation of adverts.

Maybe different in other states?
