Amir has wasted prime years on this ( i can understand it) but now is the time to accept that Eddie and Kell makes the most sense for him.freddydoesdallas wrote:Definitely agree on the last part. I'm sure khan is a wealthy man but has he ever been involved in a really big money making fight. In 10 years he might be sat their moaning about how he could have beat floyd etc and people will always say (based on today) that he was never truly world class or even the best welter in Britain.Bodyshot3 wrote:The Berto fight leaves me cold and also wondering whether Amir is chasing a bit of an illusory rainbow...
......the fight has been 'on the cards' and the 'teams have been talking' for ages now, all very positive vibes, but the end result is that Amir does not get the fight and continues to obediently wait on Mayweather. We got lots of chatter about a super-fight at Wembley but that was clearly hot air.
Amir's not getting any younger and I really do think he could do himself a major favour and have a big, profitable and meaningful stadium fight with Kell Brook rather than patiently standing outside Floyd's office.
If he fought brook and won he would at least have that and a big fat cheque!

Agree. You could say that there was a perceived chance of getting that fight and the mega-bucks that it brings, but going by what you hear about him it would not surprise me at all if Mayweather was actually enjoying this in some sort of a pathetic way.Bodyshot3 wrote:The Berto fight leaves me cold and also wondering whether Amir is chasing a bit of an illusory rainbow...
Mayweather's made his cash, Khan should just do his own thing. Don't even talk about him.
Fight Kell Brook at Wembley, be a huge show.
Re: Mayweather vs Berto
I think there's always a fair bit of dodgy analysis when it comes to evaluating Mayweather. Is he really that safety first? E.g. he dominated and was extremely aggressive V Canelo and Cotto.
The claim he handpicks opponents is a bit harsh as well. In his late career flurry he's fought and completely dominated just about every major welterweight, light-welter and also dominated easily the best 2 light middles (at the time). If you look at the quality of opponent he's fought consecutively since 1997 its nothing short of breathtaking. Has any other fighter in history fought at such a consistently elite level for near 20 years, dropping only a handful of rounds in the process?
Of course there are fights that were missed but you can pick any fighter in any era and point to match-ups that were never made.

Re: Mayweather vs Berto
He wasn't close to being 'extremely aggressive' against Canelo or Cotto. He largely fought them as he usually does but upped the work rate just a bit and had a few more moments on the front foot than normal, which were here and there rather than consistent throughout the bout.
I guess when you're used to seeing him box so cautiously those seem like examples of extreme aggression compared to his usual performances.

He beat Canelo easily. That is good enough for me. Mayweather is one of the best of all time. Terrific fighter, arse of a human being.
