Of the greatest fighters who peaked after 1960 it isn't a terrible list, to be fair. Of course, only the last 55 years is a peculiar definition of "EVER", but by that standard while you might prefer one or more of Hagler, Sanchez, Monzon etc there isn't anyone on his list who is badly out of place. Kinda surprised he made a list at all to be honest - what was the context for it? Also surprised to see Chavez on his list over SRL and RJJ.

If I were as good at anything as Floyd is at boxing I could imagine feeling justified in thinking: "fornicate me, I must be the best EVER at this!" - seems arrogant or whatever but was anyone expecting different?

i have absolutly no problem with floyd putting himself as #1 ever. every boxer should feels how he wants to feel and if someones feels he is #1, than its okay, its good.

only problem is, leaving out guys like robinson or jones jr, when everybody knows that when those 2 man were at the prime peak, they were the best boxers earth has ever seen. super athletic, super fast, super strong, way better than duran or chabez, simply how it is.

IF BEING A GREAT BOXER MEAN; BEING SUPER FAST; SUPER ATHLETIC; HIGH BOXING IQ; SUPER REFLEXES WITH A GOOD PUNCH; THAN PRIME JONES AND PRIME ROBINSON ARE THE GREATEST

I don't like Floyd personally, but his being top 5 is NOT ridiculous. Everyone on his list is probably at least top 20.

Not a terrible list, but, I agree, no Robinson?

What About Duran, Willie Pep, Archie Moore, Benny Leonard, and the most glaring omission of all, Henry Armstrong, who you could make a case for being even greater than SRR.

Leonard for me is not that high. There's so many old timers that deserve a nod above him, and I'm a huge fan of Leonard.

It's bloody hard doing these lists though. So many factors to compare.

i do not question chavez being great, but
that doesn't mean he is p4p ATG5.

Not including Robinson in the top 5 is just impossible to justify.

I was kind of surprised Richard Steele said in an interview he agreed with Floyd being #1 over all other all time greats.

These are all just opinions. We all have them.
No way will anyone agree on this topic. If you want to think Charlie Z is the best of all time
go for it.It doesn't make it right. But you are entitled to think that.
I think Floyds list sucks but it is just an opinion.

Your point?

Shall I put everyone to sleep with a two page list of those in the industry who list SRR as p4p #1? Or, maybe a list of those who don't list FMJ in their top five?

Pointless.

At one point Robinson went 129-1-2. Wow. That was obviously fighting all the time, and taking trains from city to city.

Yes, probably the most impressive stats in boxing.

Henry Armstrong's record was incredible too, but he actually lost his first 3.

All these lists are subjective, and people look for different things in different fighters. My personal opinion is that Robinson, Greb, and Armstrong would have to be locks for the top five. After that, there are so many great fighters that things get cloudy. The other problem is time makes us forgetful and lack of footage hurts some of the older fighters now. I think Bob Fitzsimmons would deserve a mention in any p4p top 10 list, and I could totally agree with a top five rating for him.

It just shows to the subjectivity when the OP laughs and Floyds list and then has RJJ as number one. RJJ isn't even close IMO.

Point is Steele has reffed many hall of fame fighters over 2 decades, and found it surprising he would agree with Floyd that he is the GOAT. I don't even know anyone else that agrees with that.

Maybe a pointless but just thought it was pertinent to the thread. Sorry it didn't entertain you.

Floyd my man!

Hello again from Ozzzztralia. If you don't know us. We are kind of the big north island of New Zealand who you race in the Americas Cup.

You would have received a letter not long back from Anthony "the not very significant other man" Mundine. Hopefully this letter will be easier to read and make more sense too because when I'm mentally on, I'm mentally on! Plus unlike Anthony, I've progressed from crayons.

I read with interest and astonishment your Top 10 boxers of all time list and could not help noticing that they all fought during your lifetime.

Did you know Floyd my man that there was professional boxing going on even before you were born? Like a long time ago, yeah?

I have jotted down some names for you to look up. They were all boxers if you were wondering.

Sugar Ray Robinson 151-21-9
Joe Loius 66-3-0
Willie Pep 229-11-1
Rocky Marciano 49-0-0
Jack Dempsey 66-6-9

Oh, Anthony "the not very significant other man" Mundine sends his regard too, and some other stuff but I couldn't make out what he was on about.

Cheers for now,
The Rasta

The poll for top 5 or top 10 has been done time and time agaian and almost everyone has it differently. I dont think any of those Floyd has listed, inlcuding himself, are out of place in the absolute upper echelon of boxing. his list is not absurd. Listing a top 20 or 30 will usually start showing similar fighters to what everyone is thinking but a top 5 is highly unlikely to be agreed upon.
