Not sure about the Gavin vs Eggington fight personally, seems an odd piece of matchmaking from Matchroom here.
I can definitely understand Sam taking the fight as victory would propell him up the rankings, yet defeat at his age is something he can come back from.
But Frankie needs to move down in weight and fighting a fit, strong, hungry young man at a weight that you are not comfortable with just seems pointless at this stage of his career.
I predict Frankie by decision in a tough fight.

50/50 fight in my book I'd slightly edge towards Gavin being too slick and skillful but can he keep Eggington off for 12 rounds? Guess we'll see. Two lads I've supported over the years gonna be weird watching them fight not cheering on either, just hope they both come out of it as best as possible.

I saw that earlier and thought the same. If he wins, he's going to come under pressure to defend his belts and might get the confidence to carry on at the weight. Hopefully, he will drop the belts and move down with a good ranking.

Hard to see how he comes back from a defeat here. Matchroom won't fancy chucking money at him

fornicating hell, that's a bit of a mismatch! I know Macklin is not the fighter he once was but he has operated about 10 levels higher Welborn ever has!

I'm wondering if it will be made for Welborns Midlands Area Title.....bit of a come down for Macklin.

Fairplay to Jason for taking it though hes never turned down big tests.

I quite like the look of the card but its got plenty of interest for me (being local). If I was judging this card as someone from anywhere else in the UK I'd think its ok but nothing special.

Surpised to see Matthew boiling himself down to light middle at this late stage in his career..

Still, if he has signed to fight at 11st he must be confident that he can do the cut ok.

He is a good few levels above Welborn but it will make for a fan friendly fight!

He said he was going to move down after he lost to Brook, now he's taking another fight at welterweight and against a massive one too. He has enough ability to win the fight but I think Eggington might be too big for him.

Sam looks like he enjoys being in there and Frankie doesn't; in all honesty it seems like Frankie thought professional life would be pretty easy and it hasn't been. I think Eggington will break him down, if he misses he just throws another and doesn't get disheartened.

I spoke to him about this recently. He said he's lost some muscle mass so thinks he can make it more comfortably now. Jamie Moore has said he supports the decision. Interviews with both will be on 'Scene over the next day or two.

Macklin's middleweight physique is aesthetically near perfect for what I think a boxer should look like. I can see where the half a stone can be lost from but I'm with C-P that it's a bit of a risk.

I dunno, Macklin seemed a bit stuck between weights to me - I always thought he looked a bit too fleshy at middleweight.

I'd imagine the Macklin/Welborn fight maybe called a light middle contest but will end up being made a lot closer to middleweight.

Welborn was due to drop down himself to welter to face Eggington up until Monday (Sam confirms this in an interview) when all of a sudden the Eggington/Gavin fight came about. So they've obviously just switched Welborn around a bit, fairplay to him willing to take either fight.

Only just noticed that this is at the barclaycard arena which is the NIA (i think) and holds around 12k. Bit optimistic for the fighters involved don't you think?

The last one was too.

Think that was set up for max about 7-8k (upper parts were curtained off etc) and there was approx 4k there (at a guess).

Think this one will do a lot more tickets, plenty of interest locally. Octobers a busy month for the Midlands allegedly show at the Wolverhampton Civic (Tommy Langford headlining) two weeks before this too.

If Macklin gets dragged past 4 rounds he's done, he was a really solid and exciting fighter but it looks like he's at the end of a fine career - he's had a few late nights and some very good fighters get done in by people a level or 2 beneath them when their time's up.

Step to far for Sam Egg at this point in his career a loss against Gavin on his card won't hurt him I can only see it going one way and that's a land slide points victory for Gavin the bookies seem to think the same by having Gavin the 4/7 on fav
