Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
As neither has been really tested at elite (pro) level it's a tough call.
What we do know is that Fury leaves himself open too often and has been knocked down by some fairly feather-fisted fighters (Pajkic, Cunningham). It's not unreasonable to suggest that Joshua could land fairly easily and probably has enough power to put Fury in some serious trouble.
We haven't seen these vulnerabilities from Joshua. Admittedly, he's not been properly tested yet. I'll go Joshua.

You have to favour Fury right now. Far more tested and proven. Joshua has never been taken into the trenches, or even gone past 3 rounds. Fury has excellent stamina and if he was smart and could avoid Joshua's bombs early, the odds swing in his favour in the second half of the fight.

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
i feel like I shouldn't feel this, but I feel like Joshua would Ko him.
Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Fury right now....too experienced, bit more tactical nous and a very, very big man as well who would know how to use that bulk.
Fury is a better mover than he is given credit for as well....
But in 18-24 months months time; with the right fights/keeping his nose clean then Joshua all the way.
I think they'll collide at some point an dhopefully it is for the heavyweight championship.

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
AJ is far better technically, far quicker, more powerfull and stronger.
However, Fury is so much more experienced and experience is so important in boxing. It could go either way but I'd put my cash on Fury.....just now.

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
AJ isn't that quick . I would say Tyson has better hand speed and is a better boxer. Tyson gets no credit but he is quick for big guy. When he is fully focused seems to play safe also. I dont think AJ would get close enough. I think Fury would wear him down like he did Chisora. AJ v Hughie would be a interesting fight Hughie is very skillful but lacks power would favour AJ slightly in that one but Hughie has had better fights and could easily win on points. Plus Hughie offered to fight Wilder while AJ fights Cornish says it all to me
Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Tricky one to call.
The Fury before Peter Fury took over the reins would in my view have been blitzed by Joshua now given how open Fury used to be defensively and given his tendency to get into a firefight as with Joshua's speed and power that's a recipe for disaster. However Fury really has improved dramatically in recent years. He's able to control fights really well with his jab and does have a decent reach and height advantage over Joshua as well as more professional experience. In addition we've yet to see Joshua face anyone his own size or anyone who has come with any real ambitions of victory. The other question mark is over his chin which has not been tested.
I reckon it'd go one of two ways now: (I) Joshua bombs him out within 2 or 3. (II) Fury outboxes Joshua and either stops him late or wins a wide points decision.

All that tells you is that Hughie needs a name fighter to raise his profile, whilst AJ doesn't.
Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Fury is too experienced at the moment he knows how to fight to multiple plans, a year or so and this could be very interesting.

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Very difficult to call right now. We still don't know how good either are. Obviously we know more about Tyson but still some questions left to answer ( how hard does he hit and can he take a dig off a big puncher )
These two questions plus many more are still there regarding Joshua although the Johnson blow out suggests his power might be real ( something I wasnt so sure of until that point )
I hope we get to see it but if Fury gets blown out by Wlad I think he might even retire. He seems an all or nothing chap and wouldn't be afraid of calling it quits if he isn't good enough to be the top dog. I might be wrong...usually am!

I think Fury would have was too much experience for him right now. Fury has been tested a few times and has had far harder match ups. Joshua hasn't really even been hit so we don't really know how he would go "life of death", least we know Fury can go life and death and still win..

A single shot from Joshua could make all those plans redundant.Finn wrote:Fury is too experienced at the moment he knows how to fight to multiple plans, a year or so and this could be very interesting.
I'm inclined to think Joshua even now, is too good for Fury, no real proof, except going on seeing their respective merits.
Fury doesn't hit very hard, and doesn't take a shot that well. Joshua can definitely punch, and is a pretty savage finisher. I think he would hit and hurt fury early, and finish him early, before Fury got into his stride.

Josh isn't a one punch hitter. Tyson, if stunned, would grab, elbow, lean all over him.
Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
But Joshua isn't 5 inches + shorter than Tyson, it won't be a repeat of the Cunningham fight.mickey1975 wrote:Josh isn't a one punch hitter. Tyson, if stunned, would grab, elbow, lean all over him.
Like most I've just got a feeling on Joshua. Truth be told, neither has fought anything like the other

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
I think the reality is we haven't enough evidence on Joshua yet to make that judgment. He could be a bit chinny; we are not sure. He has not been remotely challenged..... He might run out of gas after a few rounds. Or neither and Joshua steps up a level with the opponent and destroys Fury.
If they fought, who I bet on would depend on the odds. At this stage of the odds were even, I would probably bet on Joshua as he potentially looks to be the perfect heavyweight.

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Tyson Fury takes a good shot, it's his defence that has let him down.....but on the flip side the fights are exciting.
When his defence and tactics are on time, he sails through the fights quite comfortably....but it's not dramatic viewing.
I think Fury will keep switching his style and tactics to whatever Joshua brings. I could easily see Fury pulling Joshua all over the place and mentally and physically beat him down. We do know Fury sticks in there when the going gets tough.

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Fury has not ever faced a big puncher, and whatever other flaws Joshua might turn out to have, he has power to spare, I think he probably hits as hard as anyone in the division right now, maybe barring Wlad.
I'm pretty confident Joshua if he landed a big right hand flush early could take Tyson out completely. Tyson's chin isn't the best, and Joshua's power is pretty numbing. Tyson's best chance of winning would be to jab and move and keep Joshua from setting himself, and drag him into the later rounds, where I suspect the musclebound Joshua would struggle. There's no way you can be that musclebound and be able to work hard for 12 rounds. Joshua for me is probably carrying 15 lbs or more too much muscle on that hulking frame, he's even bulkier than Bruno was.

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Certainly bulkier than a prime Bruno - which was around the time he fought Tyson (first time) - but Bruno actually weighed more for the Tyson rematch than Joshua does now and he's 3 1/2 inches shorter - and he was hardly fat.
Bruno was about 20 lbs lighter for first Tyson fight as he was for McCall, and he was about 10 pounds heavier for Lewis as he was first Tyson fight... and he wasn't half the fighter, despite people hailing his Lewis and McCall performances amongst his best.

Bruno bulked up for the Tyson rematch to his detriment, but I think he knew he was heading for disaster long before he got in the ring.stujones wrote:Certainly bulkier than a prime Bruno - which was around the time he fought Tyson (first time) - but Bruno actually weighed more for the Tyson rematch than Joshua does now and he's 3 1/2 inches shorter - and he was hardly fat.

Nobody is saying Bruno was ever fat, I'm saying that Joshua looks so pumped up even more than Bruno, who was known for being musclebound - that's not a natural physique, nobody has bulging muscles like that without doing a lot of resistance training. It's a danger sign to me, eventually (it might be a while) - he's going to get taken past the half way point, by somebody who has a good engine, and those big muscles will be a burden as they suck all the oxygen from his bloodstream.
Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Completely agree. Just think that Joshua is not quite as bulked up as an aging Bruno - but it is alarming just how much he is bulking up and he is much bigger/bulkier when you compare them at a similar stage in their careers.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Bruno bulked up for the Tyson rematch to his detriment, but I think he knew he was heading for disaster long before he got in the ring.stujones wrote:Certainly bulkier than a prime Bruno - which was around the time he fought Tyson (first time) - but Bruno actually weighed more for the Tyson rematch than Joshua does now and he's 3 1/2 inches shorter - and he was hardly fat.

Yeah I don't understand how Joshua has people around who don't seem to be worried about this. Could be a terrible waste when he starts to slow down. guys of a similar size like Lennox started out wiry and nimble, there's no upside to all that weight

AJ - KO's fury in 5
the idea that Hughie fury will ever share a ring with Joshua is so barmy that I'm off to bed - night night

Re: If Joshua and Fury Fought Now, Who'd Win?
Respect the views of James and Stu completely, but I'm just not seeing AJ as over trained/too muscular. I'm just seeing a powerful guy, whose overhand right is reminiscent of Lennox. The way he then follows up is frightening
His hand speed is good, and the only two question marks are (a) chin and (b) stamina.
On (a) I'm told by every gym rat, that he's solid. (B) is the variable.
I think he works through everyone easily rather than Vlad. Of course we will see.
Best young heavy I've ever seen.
