I predict a spectacular KO by Broner. Watch for him landing the left hook on Khabib.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Which clearly suggests the Cincy fix is in.
That said I'm still putting $200 on him. Those odds are a JOKE.
No kidding. That's one of the strangest lines I've ever seen, in this circumstance.

Given how soft the stoppage looks on its own I'm assuming that Khabib had gotten his ass kicked prior to that.

I didn't get to see it, but I wouldn't assume that.

Ridiculous stoppage. Broner was winning wide but the stoppage was simply a gift to give the impression that he can KO people at 140.

FOUR WEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION, THE LEGEND!! ADRIEN BRONER!!!
Seriously though, I watched Mathysse-Postol over this, and I'm leary of even watching Broner fight next time out because I know they are going to say the above unironically many times, and I'm going to wince.

I know a guy at 140 Broner can fight next. He's coming off of a win tonight too...

That would be awful for Broner. Postol throws a lot of combos, can take a shot and has as much, if not more reach on Broner than he did Mathysse. I don't know if he'd stop him, but it would be ugly.

I'm not a big Broner fan, so I'd be ok with that

Say what you want about AB, but that statement is true.
Even taking into account the defeats, the nature of some of his title wins/defences, to have picked up straps at 4 weights at 26 year old, having come back from defeats, is quite an achievement.

Yeah, he's right up there with Duran, Leonard and Hearns.
I know that statement is true(about the belts). That's what makes me wince.
He's a talented guy, and I'd consider him a contender at this weight. That's about it.

Not quite what I said.
But I sometimes wonder if we're over critical of the guy because he's a grade A wanker?
As I said, take into account the defeats and some of the opponents and the nature of his title wins, this is exactly why he isn't up there with the Durans and Leonards but it's still quite an achievement none the less.
Look at Matthysee, and the fan fare he gets on here.
Lost 4 times, only breifly held a title at one weight division and some have had him as a P4Per.
Broner is a talented guy and if anything has underachieved, his defeats look as much to do with him not taking the sport seriously enough and lack of effort in the ring as anything else.
If the guy screwed the nut and dedicated himself he could actually go on to be a really good fighter.
If he could stop being a tadger as well, that would be nice

Is anyone disputing that such a statement isn't true? I think they're just noting that it will be declared without qualification in a manner that makes it seem like it's far more impressive than a collection of wins over Paulie, Khabib, Antonio Demarco, and mediocre Vincente Rodriguez really is.
Broner is a good fighter and underrated in my view, but he's benefited from very favorable management and probably has one of the least (the least?) impressive sets of wins for a 4 division world champ. I believe that such an accomplishment highly flatters him, and given that his best victory is arguably over Demarco or Paulie and that he was handily beaten by Maidana and then Porter just a couple months ago, I can see why discerning boxing fans would groan at the thought of 4-division champ label being bandied about like it's describing a special fighter.
BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Damn, Broner can't get no credit.
I think he was once overrated but now it seems to me like he clearly gets less credit than he deserves, and perhaps this is partially because people are still judging him relative to the early hype, with his personality likely playing a role too. I haven't seen tonight's fight apart from the gif above but Khabib is a decent fighter who fought very closely with Vargas and I know many reasonably predicted that he'd at least give Broner issues, so assuming the reports I've read are accurate Broner did well to win in the fashion that he did.

It was a sound beating and a stoppage (albeit kinda dubious).
And Broner did what he set out to do, insert himself back into the conversation.
As to his performance, I didn't see too much different.
The guy I saw last night would still have huge problems with a opponent with a high work rate and a good punch.
But, 4 belts in 4 weight classes at age 26 is an accomplishment no matter how much one wants to naysay it.
Hats off to The Problem...hope he stays in the gym.

I agree. There was no need to stop it at that time, they could have let Khabib finish the fight.

Im a fan of broner, but i must admit that the stoppage was kinda weird. I wont say that it was a bad stoppage because the guy took a beating and there as no chance that he could win. Only thing is, I would have preferred to see his corner stop the fight in a situation over the ref.
While he was still economical in his approach, broner did throw more punches, didnt do that awful holding bit as much, and seemed like he came to fight.
Looking at the landscape at 140, if you remove the hbo guys the top fights that could be made for him appear to be
imam
provodnikov
matthysse
cuenca
I give him a shot to beat all of these guys except for imam because i think young masters height gives broner problems

Just watched the fight Khabib was well out of his depth. Simply too slow and when he backed AB up could not capitalise.
