You're being silly and antiquated. I stopped watching boxing in 2005. I find out who's the best by reading the forum.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have Erislandy Lara posters to put up.

Re: Look out. Wilder vs Jennings - Jan 9th?
I know you said that in jest, but in all seriousness, Klitschko-Jennings in New York was a pretty big deal at the time, even just the occurrence of the event, if not the fight itself. How does a boxing fan be completely unaware of that? You may actually be more accurate than you realize.

I have no knowledge of the career of boxrec's #1 p4p fighter. The only boxers I have ever heard of are Muhammad Ali, the Cinderella Man, Rocky, and Sugar Ray something."

Re: Look out. Wilder vs Jennings - Jan 9th?
If Wilder accepts this challenge as a voluntary defense and (providing he wins) takes on his mandatory requirement against Povetkin, there will be a lot of people (myself included) will be due Deontay some credit and perhaps a small and humble apology
I don't see him taking this one, to be fair,
I have Jenning beating him narrowly
And I still don't think he'll take on Povetkin, regardless what happens in January
But if he does, good on him

That Sugar Ray something was pretty good. I remember the night he fought Robert Durant, and Robert gave up because clowns came into the ring and told him to.Lackeos wrote:"The most recent title challenger of the man who has reigned supreme over boxing's flagship weight division for a decade? Stiverne and Jennings are not comparable in any way. Struggling against Ray Austin, losing to a mediocre journeyman (whether an early stoppage or not), drawing with another and then being gifted a "title" by fighting a fat, unmotivated blob you've already beaten once doesn't make you a top fighter. Jennings is miles ahead of Stiverne and a win over him removes almost all doubt about Wilder.Badhusker wrote:The "he is a bum" comments will show up if Wilder beats Jennings....just like Stiverne.PsychoGamerTwo wrote:19-1 with 10 KO's? Why would being able to render over 99% of the men on this planet unconscious in a fight be any better than eeking out a points decision over them?

This is a really good matchup - Jennings is the more skilled, Wilder has the greater natural gifts. Wilder should go in as a slight favourite, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Jennings win via decision or late stoppage.

Jennings wilder would be a great fight.
Neither has got a guy of the others calibre on their record.
I'd favour Wilder due to the fact despite his lack of opposition he still shows glimpses of class.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Gary Shaw says Bryant Jennings will NOT be fighting Deontay Wilder.

I'd guess people close to Wilder wanted to throw a good name in the mix so when they end up fighting a third rate Brazilian Cruiserweight they can say it's only because their first choice "ducked" him.Freedom2013 wrote:According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Gary Shaw says Bryant Jennings will NOT be fighting Deontay Wilder.

According to the article, it was Wilder's management who said "no".punchoutsb wrote:I'd guess people close to Wilder wanted to throw a good name in the mix so when they end up fighting a third rate Brazilian Cruiserweight they can say it's only because their first choice "ducked" him.Freedom2013 wrote:According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Gary Shaw says Bryant Jennings will NOT be fighting Deontay Wilder.

These rumors are just backround noise to put pressure on Povetkin's people during the negotiations. See them for what they are.
Re: Look out. Wilder vs Jennings - Jan 9th?
Well it looks like Jennings, Glazkov, Thompson and ofcourse Povetkin are in the mix for January according to Espinoza.

Stephen Espinoza wrote:Deontay Wilder won’t be facing the Johann Duhaupas and Eric Molinas of the world when he returns to the ring.
Showtime boxing head Stephen Espinoza informed RingTV.com on Wednesday that Wilder will likely fight again in January, and he provided a short-list of RING-rated heavyweights that includes No. 1 ranked Alexander Povetkin as possible opponents.
The greatest likelihood is that Wilder faces No. 5-rated Bryant Jennings in a bout that would take place at Barclays Center on Showtime.
“From conversations with his team, my understanding is that Deontay would like to continue to stay as active as he has,” Espinoza said on Wednesday. “So we’re looking to have him back in January, very likely on Showtime in a step-up fight. It could be anywhere from Povetkin to (No. 7 Vyacheslav) Glazkov to Jennings to (No. 9) Tony Thompson. He wants to continue the momentum that he’s built from being active as he moves toward what he has said is his goal, which is eventually (Wladimir) Klitschko next year.”
Wilder has been criticized for taking on perceived pushovers as he readies himself for the eventual Klitschko fight
Re: Look out. Wilder vs Jennings - Jan 9th?
Glazkov is next in line for Wlad which would be an all Ukraine fight probably in their home nation for decent money so can rule him out.

Espinoza is full of it. He's just mentioning Jennings, Povetkin and Glazkov to draw attention to Wilder.
Thompson is getting older and is very slow now, so there may be a chance of that one.
But Thompson fights within a few days of Povetkin's fight, so they can't use him as an excuse to avoid the mandatory.

Im still not big on wilder. Dude looks scary as hell. Fast, strong, big, looks like he punces hard as hell. Havent seen his latest fight thoug. But from what ive seen, he looks easely stunned/shaken/panicy or what ever its called when he is pressured. And defensively flawed in general. Stiverne, povetkin, or klitscko will put him to sleep easely imo. But hopefully im wrong.
So im a fraid this is a mediastunt as mentioned.

Wilder already beat Stiverne for his paper title. Wilder had an easier time with him than he did with Molina or Duhaupas, despite stopping the latter two.Butterbean wrote:Im still not big on wilder.
