He wasn't close to being stopped. Clearly hurt but it never looked like he was on the verge of losing and he's shown a fine chin in other fights. I think he's probably more vulnerable to the body than the head as well.

Ideally I'd like to see Cotto vs Canelo winner up next but doubt either will be willing to face GGG.
but ultimitely he's interim champ and mandatory for the WBC, so they'd have to vacate and he gets to lift that title one way or the other.
That would just leave him Andy Lee to completely unify the middle weight titles. A sight I'd love to see.
I think a big money offer would tempt Andy to take the gamble.

Finally got to see the fight. Bad ress. On youtube though.
I dont get the slack that lemieux gets in here. I thought he did really good. He kept trying imo, but im left with the impression that golovkin has another gear or two he can use, should he need it. Being that cool, having that overview. Still Dont see anyone at 154->168 posing any threat. Maybe the biggest and toughest dudes at 168 could walk him down. I doubt though.
Mismatch... Well ricky. It was two worldchamps at same weight squarering off. So what can we do here. Move ggg to lhw ?

Very true. He was totally inferior to Triple-G, the only asset he had was good power. But power is nothing if you don't hit, and Lemieux barely did. Triple-G looked very good here, but i expect him to get hit more against faster fighters again. But in the end of the day, Triple-G can take it.
What is left now? Canelo/Cotto, Lee, Jacobs/Quillin... nobody will be a real challenge. Not even at 168 i see someone giving GGG a fight. I would have said Froch earlier, but Froch moves like he's got something stuck in his a** & you need to be athletic to beat GGG. I think DeGale could try it, and obviously Andre Ward.

ggg might not be the most athletic boxer in the world, but he still is athletic, combined to the elite power he has and his olympic technicle fundamentals background makes him a very dangerous boxer.

To fight the winner of Cotto v Canelo would be the obvious choice.
But if not move up to 168 and call out a retired Carl Froch and fight him in Las Vegas, Froch always wanted to fight there in a big fight and no bigger right now than GGG and god knows Carl is probably the only one that would have the bottle to do it.
The money will be good for both, the fans from the UK will come over and it will buy GGG the big name scalp should he prevail ... everyone's happy all round.

It looks like GGG Team doesn't expect Canelo/Cotto winner to fight them before May, so they will do a mandatory defense:

Wow! You picked the guy to win that about 99 percent of boxing fans did!
Even Cloutov only gave Lemieux a 20 percent chance.

And after watching it.. This fight was all wrong for Lemieux. Golovkin can decide where he wants the fight and on the outside Lemieux looks like a Trex

The question is rather how bad will the winner of Canelo - Cotto look when he decides to relinquish the WBC belt rather than face GGG ?
It would be particularly damaging for Canelo, since he's heavier by fight night than Gennady, and much younger, (and Mexican).
In any case, the middle title will be unified by the end of 2016.
