Massively underwhelmed by Eubank Jr Headline next Saturday, he is 1/50 with the bookmakers fighting a 39 year old Boxrec rated number 127. If boxing fans on this a boxing forum are debating not actually watching it on Sky, christ knows how many tickets are actually going to be sold to fans who turn up to watch it live! Only marginal interest is to see whether Hearn has managed to keep a leash on Eubank Sr, and trained Jr not to describe his Trainers primary function as applier of vaseline. Will he call out GGG again?

At least the McDonnell fight maybe good.
Leigh Wood vs Josh Wale is where i think the main action will be

Agreed, but that's what you'd expect on a small hall 'fish, chips & scraps' Hobson show, not the main fight you're looking forward to on a Sky Sports, big 10,000 arena show and that's my main issue. The fights you are mainly looking forward to are lower level - it was the same at that recent Leeds show with the 2 English title fights.

Neither of them Hearn fighters either, same with the fights in Leeds, won't match his own fighters like that though unless it's PPV.

Cancelled sky sports 2 years ago, never regretted it. PPV's which are worth getting I can pay for anyway on Virgin on demand facility.

allegedly on the other hand I am happy to pay for. The overseas coverage that I get makes it worth it. The GGG/Gonzales bill was cracking value.

A few years ago sky boxing coverage was going down the tube when they were attached to FW. The reason was that the quality on show was poor, the match ups were poor and the only good fights were on PPV. I seem to remember sky promising to ditch PPV and shortly after FW and sky were no more.
We're now back to that position with Matchroom and sky.
The problem is US. We continue to fall for the same old stories and buy into PPV.
allegedly seem to be fighting back because if you want to see the big foreign fights without paying extra this is the channel, bearing in mind of course you still have to pay a subscription.

allegedly is well worth the £12 per month, I have no problem with that you get the best fighters in the world and good consistent coverage.

Sky Sports on the other hand is a joke and their PPV policy an absolute piss taking insult. People are stupid enough to keep paying for it. Not me. I refuse to pay PPV and from next month I have cancelled Sky Sports. Nowhere near worth the money.

Apart from WWE (which is not a sport) is there any other sporting event that is PPV apart from boxing?

This is the problem with giving exclusive deals, it just doesn't work, it robs the promoter of the incentive to put on shows that compete with his rivals. It's a closed shop, and a captive audience, it's bloody stupid. I don't think Sky really give much of a shit though, boxing is peripheral, and I'm sure they are happy to take their cut from the PPV when it comes. It's money for old rope.

UFC.

Taylor-Fordham was in the darts. Fordham's stamina let him down on that particular occasion.

There are lots of great fights in UFC which are not pay per view though. I hate to confess, that I probably enjoy UFC more than boxing these days, the fights are often a hell of a lot more compelling and contain more action.

It seems rate these days to have a high profile fight that comes close to living up to the hype.

I think the key is that UFC fights are much better matched. In boxing you just get endless mismatches. Just look at the betting. But as a spectacle a good boxing match is more exciting and involving than a MMA fight

I agree, when we do get well matched fights, I still love nothing more than a really good boxing match - but there's just not enough of them.

I've seen some great UFC fights recently, though they are nowhere near as memorable as the likes of say Holyfield v Tyson.

Boxing needs to up it's game - trouble is, there's no central authority, like in UFc (which I realise is just a promotional outfit, but let's face it, it more or less IS MMA) - so I'm not hopefuly.

GGG v Lemiuex was a welcome fight, as was the Gonzales Viloria bout, if boxing wants genuine stars, then it has to have these sort of fights.

Yep, it was a tenner. Matchroom were involved, so not really surprising.

They tried it with football for a while too on PremPlus, didn't last because people weren't willing to pay extra for it.

Yeah, I remember that.

About 10 years ago, weren't it?

Sounds about right, remember going the pub with my Dad to watch games because he refused to pay.

Although if you bought the season ticket it worked out cheaper than paying for SKY and now BT on top.

WWE are actually moving away from PPV. WWE network is a streaming and on demand service which has all the PPVs and non PPVs streamed live and in archive to watch later. the monthly cost is less than the PPVs each month.

It's a fvcking brilliant model for the fans, would be superb if boxing could do something similar. It'll never happen for boxing though, too reliant on money from TV networks and obviously too fractured in terms of promoters/stables etc.

For me I'm a massive football AND boxing fan, so I'm not gona drop Sky anytime soon but I have to say their boxing output gets worse by the year, this year has been complete and total shite.

It is a big shame that the only way they seem able to put on a half-decent show these days is by PPV-ing it, that shows more about the political decisions being made inside Sky, there just obviously is not the will in the background to have boxing as a priority sport anymore, which is a massive shame for the sport in the UK.

Giving all the shows to Hearn has been disastrous for British level boxing. allegedly's show on Saturday was excellent and they've had a good last few of weeks with the excellent Manchester lineup as well - putting Sky to shame right now.

Definitely looking at cancelling my Sky sports soon, no point having it really anything decent ends up on pay per view.

And as for football Wolves are always fornicating shit on the telly.....look at Sunday for example!

We used to get better bills on Screensport on a Tuesday night. Better commentators, weekly and good undercards shown in full!

I think the allegedly model is the way forward, but the way to make it really work is to have the promoters working together (yeah I know, dream on) - putting their content on the channel, and then charging PPV's when the fight demands it.

Boxing fans are not necessarily fans of other sports, I watch almost any sport, but I don't follow them to the extent I'm prepared to pay 22 quid a month for sports channels.

I'm happy with my allegedly subscription, which I think I got at a bargain rate, and in any case is good value. I won't be watching any matchroom stuff, unless they have a PPV worth buying.
