What I can see is a lot of frustration from fans as boxers consistently find excuses to duck Golovkin, usually that he doesn't bring enough money to the table. To an extent, that's reasonable. Hungry up and coming guys will fight for less but established dudes want big money if they fear that they are going to be in a real fight. By mandating this fight, it might not have been particularly competitive probably but it would have cemented GGG as a PPV star and then people might actually want to fight him. This fight, then the winner of Saunders-Lee (I don't particularly care about that fight but hey, it would unify all the belts, right?) then move up to SMW with maximum fanfare. That would be the ultimate plan, right? Make your way through the Groves and the Dirrells to the champions...

So... Do you think GGG could call his bluff and make 155? Just out of interest. If that's the only way to make the fight? Or agree on 158 or something? I know it's bullshit but, for discussion? He shouldn't have to, but just to get the little ginger bastard?

johnswan1 wrote:Tell you what, what will people think if Canelo beats Cotto and then says "I'm not a Middleweight and neither was Cotto" and then gives up his Middleweight title and continues his career as a Light Middle.

Nobody gives Canelo a shot against GGG anyway, so why the hell would he move up to fight him as a Middleweight and disadvantage himself if he is not claiming to be the Middleweight champ and can still make Light Middle?

Cotto is a scumbag for holding onto the title and staking his claim as the Middleweight champ despite never having fought a 160 lb opponent. If Canelo were to give up the title and stay at Light Middle I for one would not hold it against him. And in fact, it would be the smart thing for him to do.
I'd think it was OK. He wants to fight Cotto and that's a winnable fight. They aren't Middleweights so yeah, if he did that, OK. It would be honest at least.

Seriously, Let Canelo demand the 155 catchweight BS for a fight with gennady with 3 Middleweight Belts on the Line. Gennady can just refuse then WBC will strip Canelo and Golovkin will be elevated to WBC champion immedietly.

Its better that way because Golovkin can fight Andy lee in April-May in England for the Undisputed Middleweight status. He will become the first fighter to hold all 4 belts since Hopkins and Taylor.

Well, yeah it's more of a BS move by Canelo than Cotto.

But ethically, how is it drastically different from Golovkin being ok with fighting Lee at 160 while ducking Lara at 160; or fighting Froch at 168 but asking Ward to come down to 164?

A side makes the rules, and belts or not, they are Gennady's only big paydays. Besides, Golovkin is already on record as willing to go down to 154 for Floyd.

And you can bet the farm Canelo and Cotto will point to that fact.

Gennady's priority is unifying belts. Being raised in the Soviet Union where money wasn't prayed to and growing in a bad neighborhood, he is happy with the money he is earning now.

P.S. Same with Kovalev and most of the other older post-Soviet fighters.

Which one of the boxers you mentioned has 3G been matched with?

Last I checked Lee has a belt and Lara does not. How is that equivalent to "ducking Lara?"

You post as though 3G has already fought (a retired) Froch over SOGgy. Last I checked, neither fight is on the horizon.

Yes, 3G is on record saying he would go down to 154 for FMJ, and FMJ is on record ducking 3G, Thurman, Brook, Porter, Khan, etc., to fight Berto.

Watch out, your bigot bloomers are showing.

Shiit at 24 Canelo has already faced and beaten better comp than a 34 yr old Golovkin.

Boxing is business Canelo can do as he pleases he's the cash cow around the division. If GGG and his ppl dont like it then move on to guys like ward and kovalev who would all be equal B sides to GGG.
Idiotic statements and obviously a GGG hater. Why don't you leave the conversation to the impartial people that bring some useful to the conversation.
You guys impartial? Lol

Oh yeah sure whenever there's a European fighter involved you guys are nothing but impartial.

GGG shouldn't go even a single pound under the 160 Weight limit. He is the WBC Interim Champion and if the winner of Canelo/Cotto doesn't want to fight him for the Middleweight Title, they will need to vacate.
Of course vacating would only prove how much of a pu$$y both Canelo and Cotto really are.
It would be a funny and super corrupt if the WBC made GGG fight for the 160 Belt at a 155 Catchweight lol

Who is really the bigot?

Do I think Floyd should have fought someone else and not Berto?

Hell yes, and I boycotted the fight to register my disgust.

But, after boat racing the second best P4P guy in the world, only an idiot or hater would characterize Floyd's last fight as ducking anyone.

It was a victory lap, not a duck.

If Mayweather comes back and he fights another Berto class guy, then we can discuss a duck.

But Golovkin has yet to fight an elite guy in his own weight class or bigger. And newsflash is fighting Cotto or Canelo won't change that.

Golovkin still has a lot of work to do as far as popularity...and fighting pretenders won't cut it.

It is a big stretch to claim Russia is European, let alone Kazahkstan.

Would a boxer from Kamchatka be considered European?

I have never understood so many Russians desire to be considered European. I believe the roots of it go back to Peter The Great.

FMJ v Pac "boat racing?" Sure, if you consider choreographed waltz boat racing. FMJ ducked out.

You know what I am talking about. Why aren't you on your soapbox about SOGgy? You really need not rationalize it. We know the answer.

Don't kid yourself that there is some pro European camaraderie in existence.

Europe is continent of completely separate & disparate nations, many of whom have nothing in common with each other whatsoever

In fact, in the case of Britain, I believe we are more allied to our American cousins than our European neighbours due to the common language.

This is no pro European bias in operation here.
