First you only named 24 fighters. (Holyfield is on this list twice.) So right there even if you think they all are better, he could still be in the top 30.
Several of the fighters you listed he would not "certainly" have lost to. He would have had a serious chance against Corbett, Norton, Charles, Walcott,V. Klitschko, W. Klitschko, Wills and Langford. The ones that he could not outbox he had the power to stop.
Yes he lost to Max Baer and that should be factored in. The majority of the fighters you have listed lost to someone worse.
Yes he had trouble with Sharkey, who was as mentioned inconsistent. However, inconsistent mean that you are good some of the time. Sharkey was good when he fought Schmeling.
Louis did more before he fought Schmeling the first time than most of the fighter listed did in their entire careers.
Louis had already beat Baer and Carnera badly. Not to mention other contenders of the day like Levinsky. Yes you can poke holes in their careers. You can also poke holes in anyones.
You can see Schmeling lose to Quarry and Chuvalo. On a given night, I could as well. However, the majority of time he beats them.
As mentioned, he normally could beat a lot of these guys on the list. The ones that are better than him he could upset on a given night.
He sure as heck is not going to go 0-24 if he fights all of these guys once.
How many heavyweights can come come close to his quality wins? A lot less than 30.
Those that don't can't have any bad losses themselves.
So how many guys is that? Certainly less than 30.
