This I presume is in the days where a knockdown wasnt quite as we understand it now?
As we all know if the ref scores a knockdown the ref send him to a neutral corner and gives a coutn of ten or eight or whatever he deems relevant.
Back in the old grainy black and white days a boxer was allowed to stand over his fallen opponet and comntinue to punch the second his opponent lifted one fist off the canvas even if he was still prone or on his knees, unabvle to effectively defend himself The most famous example of this is probably the Dempsey Willard fight in 1919 where Jack hovered over willard like a vulture. Jess finishing the fight with a broken jaw, fractured ribs, a damaged eye, a flattened nose, five teeth missing and an ear so damaged he never fully recovered his hearing. There is of course the 'plaster of paris' theory in this fight too.
Wasnt it after this fight that the idea of the neutral corner came into force?

My first thought was Reggie Strickland but I'm wrong.
Does that mean
a - he won every fight
or
b - every fight he won was by KO (i.e no points wins or draws)

This one is doing my head in!!!!
I'm trying to think of a fighter who won all his fights by KO but had over a 100 fights, maybe a journeyman who lost most of his fight?

Jesus that bad mate!!
Never really rated Popeye as a fighter myself. He fought no one of any real class. instead he concentrated on a series of round robin fights against Bluto. I was always unsure of his ability to 'bulk up' very quickly using a perfomance enhancing drug.
There was always too much suspicion that his gloves were loaded for my liking. Dempsey will always have the Plaster of Paris accusation hanging over him. Same thing for 'The Sailor Man'. Im not sure if it has ever been proven conclusivly but i always had the feeling his gloves were loaded with tanks, anvils, howitzers, ten ton weights, anchors, dynamite, big warships, barrels of gunpowder etc.
As Hatton is critisised for always seeming to have Mickey Vann refereeing his contests then why should Popeye be above critisism for always having a hometown ref in the shape of Olive Oyl??.
At least Hatton doesnt plant a big smacker on Vann before carrying him off into the sunset, well not that we know off!
