:TU:

I had it seven-five for Ginge, FWIW. Fvcking basketball scoring in a tight fight like the main event is ridiculous.

Anyone know the fight night weighs for the fighters?

Didn't seem to be any real snap in Cottos punches. He's no place at middleweight, Alvarez looked massive compared to him.

Glad Canelo got the win but I had a few quid on the stoppage

Canelo must have been 170-175.

Sad to see a great fighter like Cotto get pumped hard like that by the judges. Canelo looked the stronger, fresher fighter down the stretch but it was a close fight, the score cards were rediculous. Boxing can be laughable sometimes.

Cotto didn't bother turning up for the post-fight press conference - anyone know why not?

Canelo got the better of a competitive bout, but those cards seemed to be filled out ahead of time; the judges may be Canelo's most dangerous weapon against GGG.

HBO was all over Canelo's balls too.

I really don't understand why people had it close tbh, Cotto was busy early on but most of his shots were being caught on Cannel's gloves and arms, even the trademark Cotto left hook to the body was not getting through. I think like myself most of us have a soft spot for Cotto and what he has achieved but re watch the fight and don't listen to Barry Jones' commentary and i think you will eb shocked how comfortable Canelo looked from 1st to 12th round. Otto imo just isn't a Middleweight and should get his butt back to Light Middle and he can reign there because he don't beat Canelo in rematch and has no chance against GGG.

i thought the decision was fair, canelo seemed to win widely for me. but yet again it was a big fight that failed to live up to the hype. it was boring...not as bad as pacman v floyd but still a huge disappointment

Think it just goes down to who would make the most money on PPV against GGG , Alvarez would've had to be KO'd to have lost that fight, and that was before a punch was even thrown !!!

When did Americans start weighing fighters in kilos? They use Imperial measurements in everyday life, don't they?

I can see how they scored that way. Even the earlier rounds that Cotto was controlling the pace better, the more authorative punching came from Canelo. I know you don't necessarily score it that way, but Cotto wasn't really dominating the rounds he did win. I thought there were some very close rounds in the first 6, whereas over the last 6 most of the rounds were clearer for Canelo.

I would have scored it a little closer, but I've no major problem with the scoring.

I don't think they were revealed. Wish they were, love to know what Canelo weighed, he looked humungous.

Yeah that's my gripe in that he probably had at least 10lbs on Cotto. It makes me laugh when Canelo's team say he's not ready for full blown middleweight when in reality on fight night he's a lightheavyweight. When he was fighting at another of his own weights (150lbs) he came into the ring at 170lbs.

Yeah, that is rather a joke.

Perhaps this is why his weight wasn't revealed. Cotto's shots had no effect whatsoever on Canelo, and when Canelo landed the difference in power was pretty stark. Cotto did well to last the distance to be honest.

i wouldn't worry too much about it

they weren't publicising Cotto's in-ring weight after a certain point when he was a 158lb 'lightwelterweight', either.

Cotto only lasted because Canelo only does as much as he needs to win rounds. He struggles with movement and is far too economical with his output for my liking. I'd have liked to have seen some more killer instinct as he was pretty accurate when he threw and it was clear from early on that Cotto was overmatched and unable to hurt him.

I think it should be done as a matter of course - if you're going to have 24 hour weigh ins. I think it's pretty ludicrous at the moment. I also think it's dangerous, if you've got guys who are small at their weight class, going in against guys who are 20 lbs over it on fight night.

I wouldn't be surprised if canelo outweighed Cotto by 25 lbs on fight night.

Yeah, it looked to me like he could have got Cotto out of there if he kept his foot on the gas. I think it's maybe because he fights flat footed, he needs to get set to throw his shots all the time.

I don't mind the weight differences so much, provided both make weight a day in advance. I think it's all a balancing act, the more you put on in those 24 hours, the more weight drained you were and the highest the risk of it taking a toll. Also it's mostly younger guys who can do that most effectively so you balance that against the experience of the older fighter. Maybe it would be a good rule for fighters having to make the limit of the division above on fight night, but who wants to turn up at a venue and hear the shows been cancelled last minute?

It's been discussed a lot on here already and I did a poll a while back on what is everyone's preferred method.

The IBF ruling of a max 10lbs gain after the weigh-in was pretty popular.
