Re: Why do some boxing fans and writers dislike Gennady Golovkin?

Golovkin was ready to meet Floyd in the middle, at 154, which is the weight where Floyd was a champion. The middle between Golovkin and Kovalev/Ward is 168 where he has never fought to say nothing of holding a belt. Nevertheless, after unifying MW, Golovkin would likely want to take those fights, but will Kovalev and Ward even be able to make 168 and remain competitive ?[/quote]ikorolev wrote:Fair is fair, although I know that fans who aren't objective enough to admit this.
KC, you keep leaning on that contract that Ward pathetically tried to slip in between GGG's unification negotiations. The final four had already been made and money changed hands solidifying this little MW tournament to determine the Lineal MW Champion between GGG,Cotto, Lemieux and Canelo. It's like asking someone if they need help moving when you know that they already moved in yesterday-just so you get the credit for asking. Now the pathetic Andre Ward can walk around saying that GGG declined a contract. Very petty.koolkc107 wrote:I am not angry at Golovkin.
Exasperated is more accurate.
This guy has all the markings of a great and wont do what almost all other greats do in challenging himself.
As far as what I do dislike, I have nothing but contempt for so-called boxing fans who can't acknowledge
that until Gennady actually fights an elite from his own weight class or higher there will always be a question mark about whether he is.
And BTW, Canelo (if that fight somehow gets made) will not count. Some may think he is elite,
but if he is it is against fighters who are not middleweights.
I have been talking about lil g avoiding Ward for at least 2 years now.caldo2025 wrote:KC, you keep leaning on that contract that Ward pathetically tried to slip in between GGG's unification negotiations. I'd love it if for just once, you could forget about the usual knocks against GGG (resume, opposition, catchweights) and just tell us what you think about GGG the boxer and his ability in the ring. You're a knowledgable boxing fan with years of experience like most of the people here, tell me what you think about GGG the boxer. You don't think he's elite so tell us why? Footwork, handspeed, boxing IQ, chin, jab, defense...etc. Let's keep it all inside the ring. Let's hear what you think.
Andre Ward spent almost 2 years in and out of court with Dan Goosen, refusing to fight again unless Goosen released him from a contract that Ward signed. So please tell me how, during a mess like that between promoter and boxer, is a negotiation between GGG and Ward supposed to take place?koolkc107 wrote:I have been talking about lil g avoiding Ward for at least 2 years now.caldo2025 wrote:KC, you keep leaning on that contract that Ward pathetically tried to slip in between GGG's unification negotiations. That contract thing last month or so was just the latest in a line of avoidances.
I am also on record here and other places as saying there is no question that Golovkin certainly looks the part.
But, so did Jeff Lacy until he got in with Calzaghe.
Resume will always count.
I agree with this post, at least we have one GGG fan that is objective and honest enough to admit the truth!! From all the other Triple G fans I see nothing but pathetic excuses to explain away why their boy is ducking Ward.jezzamundo wrote:GGG is my favourite active boxer, but I have to agree that he and his team have been somewhat avoiding Ward (though I certainly wouldn't use the word ducking). I believe in Ward they see a guy with a very good, perhaps better than 50%, chance of beating GGG and they'd rather not risk a loss at this stage of his career. The offer they gave to Ward was a reasonable one IMO, but Ward was perfectly entitled to turn it down, not having fought that low for eight years, just like GGG is entitled to turn down a 155lb fight against Canelo. GGG's team isn't ducking Ward, but there are obviously guys out there that they'd much rather be fighting, and they'll only fight Ward if he's willing to make some concessions to swing the odds in their favour.
As for GGG vs Canelo, while the fight should take place at 160lb, I think GGG would be wise to compromise and consider going down to, let's say 157lb for that fight - I know he wants the belt, but at age 33 he should be prioritizing landing big fights. As for that fight not counting as a great win, it's well established that Canelo is a natural middleweight and a big drainer - he just doesn't want to fight a 100% GGG just like GGG doesn't want to fight a 100% Andre Ward. Too much risk for too little reward.
Ward had his chance to fight GGG when offered by HBO 2 years ago, but he "chickened out" (quote from you) preferring to fight the limited Rodriguez.Undefeated49-0 wrote: GGG had his chance to fight Ward at 168 but he chickened out within 39 minutes of receiving the contract, NO excuses!!
There is absolutely no comparing of the two situations.
Do you have proof of Ward chickening out as you put it??ikorolev wrote:Ward had his chance to fight GGG when offered by HBO 2 years ago, but he "chickened out" (quote from you) preferring to fight the limited Rodriguez. He also chickened out when offered to fight at 164. Now he has to wait for his turn, as Gennady has unification fights to do. Would anybody in their right mind prefer to fight (or deal with for that matter) Ward when they have a Canelo option ??? When Ward's turn come, he will have to take 25% of the purse or stay in his obscurity.
iamasadlittleboy wrote:Fans of Ward and Rigo intrigue me. Both fighters are criminally inactive, in continual disputes out of the ring...yet apparently they are being ducked...the fighters who are staying active are then being slated rather than applauded for actually fighting.
Seems you get more credit now for not fighting than you get for actually being in the ring...
First of all, a fight with lil g would have been lucrative enough for Goosen and Ward to put their squabbling aside.caldo2025 wrote:Andre Ward spent almost 2 years in and out of court with Dan Goosen, refusing to fight again unless Goosen released him from a contract that Ward signed. I'm just curious how this all transpired in your mind. Did Andre Ward's buddy or wife call Tom Loeffler? Did Goosen take a break from the litigation to propose the fight?
Even if your ridiculous claims were true and we pretend that it's not horseshiit, since when do we knock a boxer for not fighting accepting a fight against a guy from a completely different weight class? While we're at the dinner table here discussing that, why did Floyd avoid GGG then.
GGG to this minute has clearly stated that he would fight Floyd at mid 150's. So, what's your excuse now KC? Ward never said that he'd come down to 163 but you call GGG a ducker. GGG has agreed to do more than that to fight Floyd but that ducking wife beater won't touch the offer.
You are nothing but a hypocrite, Son. It's amazing how much crap you shovel into the shore on yourself
I am just applying your definition of Loefler's refusal to consider Ward's recent "offer" to Ward's refusal to fight GGG 2 years ago and his refusal to consider a catch weight.Undefeated49-0 wrote:Do you have proof of Ward chickening out as you put it??ikorolev wrote:Ward had his chance to fight GGG when offered by HBO 2 years ago, but he "chickened out" (quote from you) preferring to fight the limited Rodriguez. Also, I don't think we have the same Ward from 2011 anymore. He seems to be tired of boxing and is satisfied with fighting bums. I don't believe that he will ever step in the ring with Kovalev. He will want so much money for that, that even Jay Z will say "no".
