A wild prediction, but I think this is the sort of route he will go
Haye isn't going to have 5 fights to get to Fury.
His plan is simple, beat De Mori, getting a ranking, hope Fury wins, try and tempt him.
If not, somehow try and bang the drum and raise interest in another snoozefest against wlad.

If I was Fury I'd be insisting on money up front or some form of pull out insurance before scheduling any bout with Haye.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Are you on hallucinogens?sammy95 wrote:5 fights, 3 years.

I'll be interested to see what weight Haye comes in at. He's looked pretty heavy in his time off but his biggest asset as a heavyweight is his speed of hand and foot. His ideal weight is 210lbs (Klitschko and Chisora fights).
I reckon for his comeback he'll be around 225lbs.

Re: How far will Haye's comeback go?
Agree that five fights sounds unrealistic - but he could have a three-step plan - De Mori, Chagaev, Fury. After all, he was at ringside for Chagaev's fight with Oquendo, is an ex-WBA champ so could easily get a shot, and (however spuriously) it may enable the Fury fight to be billed as champion v champion. Question for me would be where he would face Chagaev, but Haye has not been shy of travelling for his biggest fights like Mormeck, Valuev, Klitschko.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Are you on hallucinogens?sammy95 wrote:5 fights, 3 years.

Re: How far will Haye's comeback go?
For me, Haye is semi-retired - he will come out of retirement for a warm up fight, but only to get where he wants to be - he's surely hoping Wlad loses to Fury, and he will have as few fights as possible to get there, - 3 fights sounds plausible.olij999 wrote:Agree that five fights sounds unrealistic - but he could have a three-step plan - De Mori, Chagaev, Fury. However, is any other belt holder going to want to give him the shot - without serious money on the table - Haye's rep has been damaged, and I'm not sure he brings so much to the table as he once did.
Re: How far will Haye's comeback go?
A lot depends on his patience. I think he needs three fights over the next year to get himself up the rankings. I hope he doesn't peruse WBA Regular route. I want to see him fight someone like Scott, Perez, or Jennings in his third fight as a prep for a title fight.

He doesn't need to be top ranked to get a title fight, only top 10 .Batley18 wrote:A lot depends on his patience. I think he needs three fights over the next year to get himself up the rankings. When was the last time Haye fought 3 times in a year - at 35 and with all the money he's made - I can't see it happening now.
Haye probably doesn't need many warm up fights to be honest. Provided he's still got the reflexes and power, he could jump in with Fury after a warm up, and do as well as he was ever going to. Just my opinion.
Re: How far will Haye's comeback go?
It'll never last five fights, indeed beyond 3 is probably unrealistic.
Cannae blame him mind, when you see Chagev v Browne for the WBA. For me it'll be planned as something like De Mori, WBA champ and then a huge PPV job which could be any of Klit, Tyson, Joshua or Wilder.
It would be remarkable if he has the same drive as the pre Mormeck / Valuev days and he's not an active fighter. He's a brilliant salesman though and an explosive fighter. It'll make him a good few quid

Haye's a prizefighter now in the purest sense. He's interested in one last huge payday, don't think he's bothered against whom, as you say, he's not as hungry for success now, just another payday. I'm sure he'd like to win a title, and then no doubt parlay that into one more massive payday (or ride it until he retires or gets beat) - but any thoughts of him 'cleaning up the division' is pure fantasy, he's never going to stick around long enough to do so.
Re: How far will Haye's comeback go?
I notice Fury didn't rule out a Haye fight the other day on that slightly surreal gloves off head to head thing.
Re: How far will Haye's comeback go?
Good point. He's at an age when most people tend to find going to the gym a dull chore. There are exceptions and the middle aged man in Lycra (MAMILS) phenomenon is testament to that. The rest may have done him good, though. I'd hazard a guess that most MAMIL types are on a panic-fad when they realise they're getting older and haven't done any exercise since school. People who've been at it hard throughout their teens, twenties and early thirties are very different and are usually trained out and prefer eating good food, drinking wine and falling asleep in their comfiest chair when they're pushing forty.fizzjambo wrote:It would be remarkable if he has the same drive as the pre Mormeck / Valuev days...

Yeah, especially if you also had a long amateur career - think of all those years busting your hump in the gym.Sklar wrote:Good point. I'm definitely a MAMIL - I've just realised I've still got my running tights on underneath my trousers at work. Very snug they are too - well, most things are snug when you've got a package like a baby sperm whale, but I don't like to talk about it.

You need to post pics, James. It's got to the stage where my curiosity has got the better of me. End to end how many of them would you need to make a handrail for the Isle of Wight?

Re: How far will Haye's comeback go?
I would if I could, however the lens has not been yet been manufactured that could encompass my prodigious length and girth. I'd need to get an assistant on a clifftop with a telephoto lens, and sadly, it's a bit chilly for me to be hanging out by the beach this time of year, especially as greenpeace may turn to push me back into the water, after mistaking me for a beached baby sperm whale.Sklar wrote:You need to post pics, James. It all depends which route he wishes to take.
For example, if this fight is on ITV and a big channel in America, then yes, I think he will get enough exposure to push for a world title earlier.
However, if he wants Wilder, then he needs to make a name for himself in America again, he needs that TV exposure. Haymon isn't just going to hand him a world title (am I right in thinking that both Haye and Wilder are aligned with Haymon in some way?). Haymon needs big money to give his world title to an old man who will have no more than 3 more fights - as you are arguing.
For me, Haye will have had three fights by next Christmas and will then push for those big fights, May time 2017 for his legit World Title challenge, followed by March / April 2018 for his final fight.
That should give him enough time out of the gym to not get bored . injured, but also keep him active enough for PPV stardom and a world title challenge and big defence - set for life!

Would love to see a injury free Haye back in the ring.
Can't see him fighting on anything less than PPV after his warm up though.
I feel he's more interested than making money than winning heavyweight titles.

There is a reason that fight didn't materalise.... I genuinely think Hughie would have pushed him all the way (and beat him) - controversial I know.
Hughie also wouldn't demand any where near the sort of purse / PPV etc as Haye

I think he'll be about 80% as good, win a couple of fights, and then just hit an impasse. His best bet's to look dangerous on free TV; reignite our interest.
He'll get nowhere on PPV without a fanbase. He won't fancy grinding his way back up the ratings, and none of the belt-holders are going to show charity to a high-risk challenger without that PPV coin. He needs fans more than he needs fights.

Smash De Mori smash another knock over March / April
Then fight Joshua August get smashed retire or if he smashes Joshua he will be next in line for WBC title which would be early 2016.
The Joshua fight will 100% happen next year providing no shock losses in the meantime.
