Wladimer the man thats been undeafeted for 11 years. 23 title defences. Very few lost rounds. People gave up believing he d lose again. Made pretty much every challenger look ordinary. David haye couldnt do anything with him.

Tyson fury the man everyone said pretty much had no chance. Not prepared for it whatsoever. Pretty much all the pundits backed against him.

Goes out and wins by a good margin . Lets be honest he won the fight fair and square. Some people having it as wide as 11-1.

The best you can say is he was less of a loser than klitchko. As someone said on another forum. Fury klitcko,d klitchko. Klitchkos pretty much nuetralised everyone hes fought in the last eleven years...fury turned the tables on him. Klitchkos no loser. Its just that fury made him look like a loser. And for that he deserves the plaudits. Anyone that doesnt or wonts not thinking rationally.

There are lots of reasons why Fury is not getting full recognition, many of them objective (luck of credible record in pros or amateurs) and subjective (unattractive technical style). It has though nothing to do with his ethnic background. All peoples that suffered persecution or discrimination tend to act with a certain chip on their shoulder and see discrimination where there is none. Fury family is a good example of that.

All the people negatively labelling Anthony Joshua as "crim" need to have a word with themselves. This is boxing, not an application to be a kids party entertainer. UK fighters like Hatton, Calzaghe, Hamed, Benn, Eubank all had brushes with the law, and the list goes on and on both in the UK and World wide. It's harder to name a fighter who hasn't than has. Nature of the beast.

The british media are racist towards the white working class. I suspect a lot of the middle class toffs that make up Fleet Street see Fury and his family as lower than that

It isn't racism, it's what happens when you bury yourself on sky box office. If you
have an audience of similar numbers than who tunes into S4C's 'Pobol Y Cwm' then
not many people are going to give a shit.

Tyson Fury would have been massive news back in 1985, but then he would have had
all his fights on the BBC.

The Davis Cup victory in Belgium was shown free and on the BBC, so, more people saw
it and thus, more people are talking about it.

I wouldn't say they were 'racist' as the vast majority of the media are white and British themselves - they are extremely prejudiced and patronising though, try being northern and it comes at you double.

Its probably not ,, my sugars high and i'm rambling :DDD In my own way i'm trying to say i think Tyson sort of alianates himself with the i'm a traveller , were the toughest men on the planet , born to fight bla bla bla , ... When in fact he is'nt a traveller he was born , raised and lives in a house , I ponted out my parents bought a caravan when i was 14 , took my brother and sister and pissed off traveling for 40 odd years ,, fancy that living in a caravan for 40 odd years , so they were travellers , that does'nt make me a traveller , because i did'nt go with them i left home to be a street kid ... So i'm no more a traveller than i would be a black fella if i paint my face ..

i THINK THERES SOME LOGIC IN THERE SOMEWHERE :TU:

I disagree that the fight being on Box office is a big reason he`s not getting his due,I remember the coverage Hatton got in the papers when he beat Tszyu and the good will Haye got when he beat Valuev.lazy sports writers who don`t like the sport anyway having a chance to trash it,I don`t think it racism but there is some snobbery there for sure.

I've had trouble taking to him I must admit. He's sometimes likeable and insightful, sometimes irritating and comes out with some rubbish. Have always followed him but he never seemed to take the game very seriously and let's be honest apart from the aborted Haye fights he never really seemed keen to fight anybody particularly good. Swerved Price, sure he swerved Pulev as well didn't he? When he stepped up he fought smaller guys. I loved the Cunningham fight but nothing after that was that interesting. His physique is off putting and be doesn't have pretty technique. I think people are probably a little put off by his family, a lot of whom seem nasty intimidating bully types (hughie and peter seem alright). Also, it's easy to say we are non believers and racists but the truth is he has not looked very good in most of his fights and hasn't fought that high a standard if opponent. You can forgive people for not being able to see it. Is that annoying for Fury? I expect so. But so what? That's not racism. I just didn't think he was that good and I'm not bezzy mates with him. I'll have to see how he does in his next few fights. Lad did well though. Amazing to beat Wlad. But the fight wasn't all that either was it?
:TU: I agree with this

Also on this board, press are being accused of not giving him credit and Sky are accused of kissing his arse. Just be happy boxing is being talked about even though a bloke who says some things that makes him look like a bit of a nob won a dull fight against a 40 year old. He has been on all the back pages, top story on the BBC, main feature on the news, radio. I'm not sure I blame people not to be in a rush to give him a live interview. I don't think anyone could argue at lack of press.

Again brilliant achievement and one I certainly didn't predict but that doesn't mean we all have to start bowing

I remember that too, I also remember when Barry McGuigan beat Eusebio Pedroza and despite it being as big as that fight, Hatton got about a tenth of the prestige and the acclaim McGuigan got on the back of that fight.

I bet any money, more people would recognise McGuigan than Ricky Hatton - even now.

And sports writers aren't going to write about sports that don't have wide exposure, not that they have that kind of power anyway, they are told what to write, not have the power to dictate what they can write about. Boxing used to have wide media exposure, and that is why Chris Eubank is able to go to 'I'm a celebrity' nearly twenty years after he last boxed, do you think Carl Frampton will be able to do the same, I don't think so.

It seems logical to me that a man who prides himself on not being a media friendly 'yes man' garners a certain degree of negativity from the media.
Although I think he deserves all the credit in the world for his achievement, the lack of action in the fight hasn't helped.

Did anyone read Bunces article in the Independent yesterday? He praised Fury's performance and said he executed the gameplan perfectly.
Yet while working as a pundit for 5live his unofficial scorecard had Wlad winning.

That time of popularity in the 80 and 90s is gone and never coming back viewing figures on terrestrial tv is declining with all the other options avalible. My point is that this had not got much to do with what tv station Fury is on, if he was on ITV he would still be getting tarnished,he hasn't helped himself with the comments he has made but if it wasn`t that they would have found something else. The difference of reaction compare to Haye who won his lesser title on the same platform is huge.

In fairness if you watch the IFL interview with Tyson he said that article was a complete stitch up job and that the comments were taken completely out of context and misquoted.

He had actually said something along the lines of peados in the government tried to use the legalising of being gay to push through the legalisation of peadophelia on the back of it, and he also showed the article from the BBC on his phone which published the article which appears to be true.

He said he didn't say being homosexual was wrong but didn't confirm what his personal beliefs are.

Course it has! If only x amount of people watch the fight on pay per view compared to tens of millions on terrestrial TV then less people are going to talk about it, seems like an obvious mathematical equation to me.

As for Fury getting tarnished, well, probably he would but then no-one can look good against Vladimir Klitskcho - he is a hard man to look good against, never mind beat.

Boxing it its own worst enemy, I don't know about more people talking about Haye beating Valuev, I think the talking point about that fight (on here at least) was that he managed to get an away points decision in Germany!

In the mainstream media, I think the whole 'David Vs Goliath', '6'2" guy beats 7'0" giant in a fight' angle helped it capture the general public's imagination a little better.

The point Im making is that if someone like Joshua did what fury did the other day he would be a super star not like 80s or 90 s granted but in todays terms as close as you could get but it'sFury and the press will not give him the credit he deserves

Isn't Fury's race English? If there's any prejudice against him I would imagine it's to do with his career or against the sport in general.

Great point.

Also, you could argue Joshua's Olympic gift wasn't that impressive (I thought he lost two), yet his face seems to fit. And he's a convicted criminal.
