Is Mitchell really that big a puncher? I can't remember off the top of my head but has he put down or even had a good fighter in trouble? Burns & Katsidis made him look like a lost little boy

Thompson
DeMarco
Salgado
Sor Vorapin
Sotelo
I think Acosta and Condo did too
So...plenty have, let me rephrase it and say that dropping Linares isn't proof of world class power

Ismael looks like he's nearly 50, must've been a hard life - doesn't look up to much other than a decent punch, but Kev is really getting on now in terms of wear and tear - hard to call

it wont go the distance. arrest to impatient and one handed. left hand happy. mitchell needs to neutralise the left hand he barrosso is there to be hit. if he cant neutralise the left hand mitchell gets stopped. kevin wen on form knows how to handle heavy punchers. when focused you need skills to beat mitchell not just power. kev susceptible early at times if he keeps it tight first few rounds i see mitchell stopping barroso.
someone should get stopped s barrio fights in a way whereby he stops you or you top him but one of us is going lol

Barroso vs. Crolla will be fun...

It will be a good test for Anthony, not sure he would have expected to be facing Barroso.wesshaw1985 wrote:Barroso vs. Crolla will be fun...

How did this fight go? I read the words Mitchell destroyed on social media, albeit by some mouthy little slob who thinks he's an expert.
I have to say Mitchell's been one of my faves over the years.
Going by a comment above, it sounds as if he was a very very good amateur.
Speaking of which, I'm reading that Luke Campbell has been defeated also.

Mitchell was destroyed, stopped by a very heavy jab. Had his moments but always looked...ominousmagwitch wrote:How did this fight go? I read the words Mitchell destroyed on social media, albeit by some mouthy little slob who thinks he's an expert.

The hype train finally finishes. I haven't actually seen the fight but was he basically outclassed by a professional boxer?

Hope I'm wrong I enjoy watching Kev fight and want to see him fight Crolla. However that will most certainly be a PPV fight if it happens you watch.
I've had a quick look at barroso now and agree with Naandrew, mitchell for me has had too many wars, especially last time out and i think barroso will just be too much for him at this late stage of his career.[/quote]

He definitely looks a step up from Perez but it's the WBA we are dealing with don't be surprised if the fight isn't next.milpool wrote:It will be a good test for Anthony, not sure he would have expected to be facing Barroso.wesshaw1985 wrote:Barroso vs. Crolla will be fun...

Re: Kevin Mitchell vs. Ismael Barroso - December 12th 2015
It looks as though Kevin's punch resistance has gone, he got dropped hard from a jab. Mitchell has had a long career, he was very good as a schoolboy and he must have a lot of miles on the clock. It's a shame as he was a very tidy counterpuncher with a hard left hook, he must have earned well by now and be OK to retire and get a job.
Re: Kevin Mitchell vs. Ismael Barroso - December 12th 2015
I don't think Mitchell's punch resistance has gone, more so it is never been that good against a big STRONG lightweight. He made Ricky Burns look like Mike Tyson. I just think when he faces someone of great physical strength, he creates so much nervous energy that his punch resistance goes early. When he faces guys who are naturally smaller than him then he is more relaxed and takes shots better.
Linares has a better KO record than Burns, but he is also a natural Feather who has bulked up to Lightweight. Similarly against Murray, not the biggest Lightweight ever, he took some meaty shots but never looked hurt.
Against Kasidis, Burns and now Barroso - he always looked weary of their strength and he crumbled early.
I think Mitchell would still have a chance at Lightweight world title if he faces someone who is not massive at the weight.... still think Mitchell vs Crolla is a ridiculously tough fight to call - Crolla for me could still make Super Feather, which is the type of fighter Mitchell needs to look at.
There are avenues for Mitchell to comeback if he wants it - and I think that's the crucial thing. Mitchell vs Coyle, Mitchell vs Mendy I feel are very much winnable fights for Mitchell that could get him a ranking - but if he wants that world title, he's got to avoid a big, strong true Lightweight.

I'd still like to see him mix it in some domestic level fights. If not, retire and go into training fighters himself.

You're wrong about Murray FWIW, he was a big lightweight, just too ponderous and lacking the quality and technical skill to beat Mitchell but he.outsized Mitchell considerably.stujones wrote:I don't think Mitchell's punch resistance has gone, more so it is never been that good against a big STRONG lightweight. Re: Kevin Mitchell vs. Ismael Barroso - December 12th 2015
CP you are right in terms of sheer size, but I don't think Murray was a particularly strong lightweight, a fantastic engine but when coming through I always thought "oh wait till he gets his man strength, he's going to be unstoppable" but it was as if his "man strength" never happened. Most of Murray's own best wins were against fighters moving up (and subsequently moved back down) and ultimately Crolla outstrengthed him - and I still see Crolla a small Lightweight.
One of the big problems for me re Murray was that he had the engine to fight like Ricky Hatton, but he didn't have the strength to pull off that tactic which was his undoing when he stepped up to above Euro class (Mitchell, Rios, Crolla). He ultimately didn't have enough power to keep them on the back foot - unlike Ricky Burns, who is far from a one punch KO artist but you could see from the opener (Mitchell actually started the fight very well) that even the shot that were hitting the arms got Mitchell's attention and got him weary. He had the same look vs Kastidis (he also start sharp there!) and last night.

Re: Kevin Mitchell vs. Ismael Barroso - December 12th 2015
Crolla didn't outstrength Murray though, in fact Murrays strength was what gave him his better moments early on. Crolla bested Murray because he was so much more polished offensively and defensively, which meant he was landing at a better percentage which meant Murray got his usual facial damage and gassed from all his wasted effort and missed shots. Lack of manstrength wasn't Murrays problem, an inability to land clean shots and put shots together was, always.
I'm quibbling slightly as I agree with most of what you said but I think you got Murray read all wrong.

Barroso looked very impressive.
