Tony Bellew vs. Mateusz Masternak - December 12th 2015
Re: Tony Bellew vs. Mateusz Masternak - December 12th 2015
I don't intend to be disrepectful, but if Bellew wins a legitimate version of the cruiser title, is cruiserweight actually worst than Heavyweight in terms of talent?
Razor tight fight for me - I cannot remember my card but either a draw or Bellew by 1. However, Bellew looks so slow at Cruiserweight and looks like he has some stamina issues at the weight. Firstly he couldn't finish off Clev who basically layed on the ropes for the second title and on Saturday he looked very heavy legged at times. Bravely got some second wind for the final round - and my respect for the that, but his engine is definitely suspect - and I think Coldwell knows this judging by the comments between rounds.

I actually thought Bellew boxed really well he really needs to work on his stamina though. I liked the way he double up the jab or turned the jab into a cross hand.stujones wrote:I don't intend to be disrepectful, but if Bellew wins a legitimate version of the cruiser title, is cruiserweight actually worst than Heavyweight in terms of talent?

Oh yeah, he is technically a very good fighter - but a bit slow against the elite IMO (big difference between him and Stevenson was hand speed).... but his stamina these days looks very suspect. Is it because he makes the weight too comfortably he can afford to not kill himself in the gym.
As Bellew was stating at the start, but then he changed his tune. A world class fighter should be handling Masternak - who is a decent operator but not world class - pretty comfortably. As Bellew said at the start, if he stuggles against the Pole then he isn't world class - well, he struggled against the Pole.

Is he still pretending Afolabi doesn't exist? Has he ever mentioned his name?

Afolabi has signed to fight Huck for a third time in February/March.Lenny wrote:Is he still pretending Afolabi doesn't exist? Has he ever mentioned his name?
In Germany again so I can see Huck getting his usual close/dodgy decision.

They all just seem to blend into one.
Hopefully Abraham-Stieglitz 7 is on the under card.

Afolabi would introduce Boomer into an entirely new category of hammerfuck

Bellew has vacated the European Title - http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12 ... orld-dream
Could Ovill McKenzie face Masternak next for the title?
Could be a fun fight...

Ovill lost a close World Title fight.
Enzo beat a very old Roy Jones jr.
I'd put Ovill in with Masternak for the vacant-European Title maybe leading to a shot at Glowacki for the WBO Cruiserweight Title.
I'd give Enzo a headline fight in Wales at the Motorpoint Arena or something against another old Yank maybe James Toney?
Call out Bernard Hopkins after for a retirement fight, use the Calzaghe-angle...

Kucher mandatory for Euro now.
Be interesting to see if Bellew gets a world title fight next and against whom.
Glowacki would be a good fight for him at the Echo.

Would have liked to have seen Bellew defend the European title a few times and get some good wins over solid Cruisers to really settle in to the weight. I'm still not 100% convinced by his work rate at 200lbs, think he could do with dropping to around 195. He doesn't get much credit from fans but I actually think he has decent skills and speed at CW and looks impressive when he lets his hands go, just not sure if he can do it regularly enough with the extra weight. Either way, can't blame him for dropping the EBU belt for a world title shot, Ramirez especially for the IBF is a very winnable fight for him.
