Why didn't Wilder vs Martin happen? 2 undefeated American world heavyweight champions, both good at talking up a big fight with 1 of them being a massive puncher. Surely they should've put this on PPV and with a 24/7 type build up show it would've generated decent numbers and the winner would've gone on to be a star, especially if it was Wilder winning by a highlight reel KO.

Martin had only been World champ 5 mins when Hearn gave him silly money to defend against Joshua, about 7 mill was it?? I doubt it was even mooted

Jesus Christ! I didn't realise he was paid that much. I still would've thought Haymon would've made an offer as this fight could've made Wilder a star.

I think Martin called out Joshua, he probably knew he could sell the belt and Hearn probably thought why not.
Around £7m yes.. Was it worth it? who knows.

It was a stroke of genius the Charles Martin fight.
No doubt whatsover that they will look to do the same with Connor Benn.

Considering how Al Harmon rarely ever allows his fighters to box on other promotions no matter how great the offer, to give up an undefeated all American unified heavyweight championship seems out of character.
Maybe this fight made him permanently reassess allowing his fighters out.

Not quite the slim pickings at WW though! Martin is/was fcuking awful.

To believe that you would have to believe he thought Martin would beat Joshua. And I don't think it is possible to believe that.
