Lol, alp had Leonard edging Norris and ali/berbick razor close. No talking to him about his boys.

Leonard over Norris was a joke, the rest is all too real.

I had the fight 114-112 for Tommy when I saw it. Leonard certainly has his share of dramatic moments in the fight, but the knockdowns just can't be ignored, and they should've given Hearns the clear victory.

Do you think it is ridiculous for the fight to be a draw given that Leonard landed more punches and hurt Hearns more often than he was hurt?
That alone should tell that the decision could not have been a ripoff.
Many people seem to think "there were two knockdowns, it's a nobrainer". I am saying that there are 10 other rounds to consider.

Lol, yet you tally up punches cumutively. You're hilarious. I'd love to watch you argue with Leonard about the decision. One of the most egotistical and self absorbed athletes in history knows he lost that fight.

For me it's an even 6 rounds to 6 fight. The knockdowns sealed it for Tommy...or at least should have.

Not sure Leonard lost it, I think a draw is not out of the question. And I think a win for Tommy fits that description as well. It was one or the other....and very closely so. A win for Leonard is harder to justify.
With that said....another 3 rounds does not favor Tommy. So who do you want to be going into the next round? Anyone who says Tommy, I think their judgement has to be questioned. Since Leonard himself says he lost it, then I think we need to give that much credence. However, I do suspect that he believes he would have won the "other" fight. The one that did not actually take place on that day. The one that goes 15 rounds on that day instead of 12. So he probably props himself on that hypothetical.
I think that's what makes this discussion a fascinating one. And on balance, it's very very seldom where a fight that is rather competitive, has two knockdowns scored by one fighter and that fighter NOT end up victorious. UNLESS the other fighter has full control, and those moments were simply bad "matador moments". And I'm not quite seein' that in the TH/SRL II fight.
I'm not tryin to take the politicians path....just happens to be the way I see it. If anyone were to have achieved a "W" on THAT 12 round exercise...it should have been Tommy. Ray was lucky and just barely justified with a draw. Had the 12th round been substituted for any other round that Ray may have won in that fight, I'm thinking even the Draw would have been an outrage. But those last two minutes make it plausible if not palatable to some of us.

A longer fight would always favor Ray. That certainly doesn't affect judging. Lol, best possible score for Ray is 114-113 hearns with a 10-8 in the 5th for Leonard. It's a highly competitive fight that lacks close rounds.

I'm thinking that's the "other" good scoring that cold have taken place.
What do you see as the best case for Tommy in that fight...that could still be somewhat justified? Or how did you score it?
Never mind, 115 to 111 in your book.

Even Leonard admitted defeat.
To me it was a no brainer.

The assumption that if it went 15..... srl wins .....seems to be universal in this thread.
Id disagree.
Hearns was in a bad place, but at the absolute end of the round he had weathered it and ray had almost punched himself out. Srl admitted in the post fight interview he was "absolutely exhausted"......and tommy one of the proudest champions ever was not going to quit.......theres a firm belief in me that just as he weathered the round 5 storm, where it looked a certainty there was no way he could survive , tommy would have regrouped from the sudden near capitulation in round 12.
The half shot Thomas Hearns of 88-92 adapted to the loss of legs ,chin and speed .....with a greater ability to weather storms than in 1981 with ray, and 85 with hagler
Hell, look at the kinchen fight ,this fight, and the 2nd barkley fight......no im afraid i see tommy winning it down the stretch too.

And he was never intimidated....not even by an odd or unfair decision. Or the glaring stare or trash talk of an opponent.
I mean that seriously, I don't think he could be psyched by anyone or much of anything.
Always a great sportsman.

The boxing powers that be, wanted to see a Duran vs Leonard III fight. That's why they came up with this ridiculous draw. It took a lot of wind of The Hitman's extraordinary performance

True.
You've got to love Tommy Hearns for that.
He wasn't afraid of any challenge & would have fought King Kong, Godzilla & Ed The Sock at the same time if he could have!

Agree he was a great sportsman. Same for Leonard who was a clean fighter, gave credit to his opponents, didn't make excuses, didn't complain about officating, and had a lot of heart.
